How to update a wooden table with your own hands. Do-it-yourself restoration of an old table (design idea, photo)

Furniture items occupy a central place in the interior. So, in the kitchen or in the dining room, the main attribute is the kitchen table. In order for the product to serve for a long time, the housewives cover the countertop with a tablecloth or special napkins. But what to do if the furniture is damaged or deformed? In this case, you can restore the kitchen table with your own hands. There are various ways and technologies to improve the appearance of the structure. Therefore, worn items should not be thrown away, because they are easy to repair, decorate and decorate.

Covering with self-adhesive film is the most economical option for updating the table.

Preparatory work

Before decorating the kitchen table with your own hands, you need to prepare the product. It must be free of dust and dirt. To do this, all elements of the table must be wiped with a damp cloth. In case of severe contamination of the product, special household chemicals can be used. After wet processing of structural parts, everything must be thoroughly dried. Otherwise, the accumulated moisture will contribute to the appearance of mold and fungal infections, which will negatively affect the quality of operation.

The wooden kitchen table must be carefully inspected. If cracks or gaps appear on its surface, then they must be processed with sandpaper. This will help strengthen the structure and make it easier to apply a new coating.

Very often, the countertop of a kitchen set is equipped with a polishing coating. In order to update the old kitchen table, you need to remove the cover. Experts recommend doing most of the work in an open, well-ventilated room. The floor should be covered with unnecessary cloth or paper.

To carry out finishing work, you will need the following tools:

  • dry rag;
  • means for removing the polishing coating;
  • putty knife;
  • metal wool;
  • alcohol solution;
  • brushes;
  • gloves;
  • mask for the face;
  • sandpaper.

The brush is moistened in a special solution that serves to remove the polishing coating. It can be liquid or thick. For convenience, it is recommended to pour a small amount of the mixture into a separate container. This consistency is applied in a thick layer to a specific area. After that, you must wait until the surface absorbs the solution. For some areas, you can use a hard brush. Thus, cleaning the kitchen table with your own hands will not be difficult. To do this, you need to choose the right materials for processing.

Experts recommend that after removing the polishing layer, treat the surface of the table with sandpaper and metal wool, after which the base will become even. The resulting surface will be the perfect place to decorate and create a new design.

Tiling update

Decorative tiles are one of the most popular materials for facing kitchen sets. For self-design countertops, you need to measure it and choose the right material for it.

Tiles of various textures are durable and reliable for countertop cladding. The tile is good because it is convenient to wash it and that you can safely put hot dishes on it. To finish the kitchen table, it is recommended to choose elements with a matte finish. For work you will need:

  • tile;
  • grout for seams;
  • plastic crosses;
  • special glue;
  • edge profile;
  • brush;
  • notched spatula;
  • building level;
  • dry rag (sponge).

A special tile adhesive is applied to the prepared and cleaned base of the countertop. This procedure should be done using a notched trowel. During fixation, the material will be firmly and securely fixed.

The tile is firmly pressed to the base of the table. The elements of the product are interconnected in the desired composition. Seams between materials are recommended to be strengthened with plastic crosses. Thus, the products will be fixed to each other at an equal distance. Using the building level, you need to monitor the position of the parts.

After the main work is done, it is necessary to wipe the seams between the tiles. To do this, use a special mixture that can be purchased at any hardware store. The grout is applied to the base of the table after the glue has completely dried.

In order for the kitchen table to look beautiful and festive, it is recommended to decorate the side parts of the countertop. This procedure can be carried out using special edge profiles. They can be matched to match the appearance of the tile.

Restoration with paint

This method, which allows you to unusually update the kitchen table, is available for everyone. You can paint both the tabletop and the legs of the product. The color and design of the new construction depends on the preferences of the owners. In order for the kitchen table to become the central attribute of the room, it can be painted with bright paint. Decorating an interior item allows you to show imagination and skill and create an original masterpiece at home.

For work, it is recommended to purchase quick-drying paint and a brush. The work area should be spacious. The surface of the table is recommended to cover. Some homeowners prefer to use a solid color paint, but combining different shades will help create a unique furniture design. Some masters use stencils for decoration: the main part is painted in one tone, and an original pattern is created on the sides or in the center of the tabletop using a stencil.

Decoupage technique

Decoupage napkins are ideal for decorating any kind of furniture.

Spray paint applies quickly and dries completely in 2 hours.

With their help, you can unusually decorate the table in the kitchen. The attribute should be decorated, taking into account the theme and style of the room. There is a large selection of applications that will perfectly complement the look of the countertop. In addition, the decoupage technique can be used for the side parts of the structure and frame the legs with it.

To work, you need to prepare tools:

  • napkins for decoupage;
  • PVA glue;
  • capacity;
  • brush.

With the help of glue, the pattern is transferred to the surface of the table. For work, you can use both special napkins and images from magazines and newspapers. If defects appear, they can be masked with paint. At the end of the work, it is recommended to treat the surface with varnish. This will significantly increase the service life of the product.

Table decoration methods

The variety of decoration methods allows the owners to radically change the kitchen set. An affordable and practical method of decorating is self-adhesive film, which helps to decorate furniture on your own. It is enough to choose the desired shade of the material with increased density. Sticking a film on the base of the countertop allows you to update the product in the shortest possible time.

Some owners use old cuts of wallpaper to decorate furniture. To work, you need to purchase a special glue. Decoration with wallpaper will make the interior unusual and original. In addition, you can purchase wallpaper with imitation of stone, brick or tile.

In the reconstruction of old furniture, you can show imagination, ideas and skill. You should not be limited only to decorating the countertop. Replacing the legs will allow you to create a new design in your own kitchen. Updating the table is available even to people who have never encountered such work. It is enough to use various decorative overlays and homemade decorations to radically transform this piece of furniture.

Often this old piece of furniture in the kitchen that has lost its presentation, which clearly falls out of the general style of the room, is a cause for controversy: it seems to be time to replace it so as not to spoil the interior - however, it is a pity to throw it away, and the funds do not allow furniture to be “scattered”, even if it has served for a long time.

Dilemma: restoration or decoration?

An old but still sturdy dining table, especially if it is made of metal or solid wood, could have lasted for a very long time if the work surface had not suffered from time and long use, or a design no longer suitable for the style of the new kitchen.

All work on the return to life of this important part of the interior of the kitchen, with the restoration of normal functions or their change, can be divided into three categories:

  • Restoration;
  • Restoration with a change in design;
  • Decoration.

On the options for how to update the old kitchen table with your own hands in the best possible way, you should dwell in more detail.

Restoration. This type of work is carried out if the furniture is ideally suited to the interior of the kitchen, but has lost its presentable appearance during long-term operation, or the strength of the structure has suffered from time to time.

Before proceeding with the restoration, you need to stock up on the following materials and tools:

  • Sander, sandpaper of various grain sizes;
  • Glue for wood or metal (depending on the material of the underframe);
  • Putty for underframe material, primer;
  • Special paint of the desired color (for wood or metal), intended for interior work, as well as a small roller and brushes.

If the frame is metal, then the restoration process consists of the following steps:

  1. Dismantling the tabletop;
  2. Cleaning the surface from the old coating;
  3. Puttying the surface for better painting - the special composition of the putty for metal allows you to make the surface smoother, protecting it from oxidation in the future;
  4. Grinding - necessary in order to remove various roughness to prepare the surface for painting;
  5. Priming - can be done using special formulations, or you can use the base paint with the addition of a solvent;
  6. The paintwork of the frame must consist of at least two layers. Moreover, each new layer of paint is applied to the already dried up previous layer.
  7. The tabletop for the restored metal frame can be done as follows:

When restoring wooden furniture, the sequence of steps does not change. However, before proceeding with the restoration of such a surface, it is necessary to strengthen the entire structure of the product:

  1. Carefully inspect all connection points, if necessary, fix them with glue, furniture corners or confirmants (furniture ties). If there are movable connections, check their functionality. If the mechanism is damaged: repair it, replace it, and if such a function is not important, make the assembly static.
  2. Remove the preserved decorative elements and accessories that may be damaged during further work;
  3. The countertop, if it is not planned to be replaced, cannot be dismantled.
  4. Next, you should get rid of the old coating - carefully sand all surfaces, including the internal elements of the frame;
  5. If there are potholes and chips on the restored planes, cracked seams at the joints, you need to putty them with a special acrylic putty. It is better to level the countertop with a special compound: mix small sawdust into PVA glue or wood glue and fill the existing recesses with this mixture. After the glue has dried, sand all structural elements again;
  6. If the surface was leveled so that the defects became invisible, and the tree retained its original structure, you can cover the table with tinting (transparent acrylic paints that give any shade to the wood and do not hide the pattern of its fibers);
  7. After applying the first layer of paint, all structural elements should be carefully sanded - to remove raised wood fibers;
  8. The next 2 coats of paint are applied at intervals of several hours (so that each has time to dry);
  9. Finishing - varnishing: for kitchen furniture it is necessary to choose a special varnish that gives a coating that is resistant to mechanical and temperature influences.
  10. After the varnish is completely dry, the working surface of the table must be covered with several layers of wax - this will give it additional water-repellent properties.
  1. Remove all dirt (especially grease stains) with detergents. Dry thoroughly.
  2. Using a grinder, clean the surface, getting rid of the old varnish coating - paint does not adhere well to it.
  3. Apply a primer (preferably one that protects the wood from moisture penetration) using a roller, brush or aerosol. Be sure to let it dry well.
  4. Paint in the desired color 2-3 times, applying layers as evenly as possible, giving time to dry each of them. After applying the last layer, leave the product to dry for at least 24 hours.
  5. Apply wax paste and, using a cotton napkin, carefully rub it into the countertop in a circular motion - repeat the procedure 2-3 times to get a matte, non-sticky surface.

Your old table in a new guise is ready: you need to let it stand without work for about a day, and it will serve you for more than one year!

Restoration with a change in design

Such design is another way to make a new, more spacious kitchen table out of an old kitchen table.

You can go this way if you bought a new table for the kitchen, and the old one is still good enough to throw it away.

In addition, you can simply restore it by adding a "zest" to the design. How to update an old kitchen table with your own hands in a similar way is shown in the photo - the process itself requires a slightly more detailed description.

To make changes to the design, we need:

A sheet of chipboard, 2 bars for legs, 2 planks of chipboard - all of this size to make a table that fits under the old kitchen in size. It is better to fasten the wheels to the legs of a small table - it will be more convenient to use it, and the floor covering will be better preserved.

For the screed, 6 confirmations and 2 furniture corners will be needed, and to combine the two structures, 2 aluminum corners equal to the width of the larger table will be needed.

In addition, we will need: wood putty, enamel in 2 matching shades, varnish and wax paste for finishing surfaces.

Rest assured that the "away" dining space will be hugely popular with the younger members of the family - children will be more comfortable here due to the smaller difference between the height of the chair and the table top.

Decoration - for every taste, style and ... wallet

This method of "resuscitation" of the kitchen table is the most exciting, having a variety of ways using the most unexpected materials. When thinking about how to update an old kitchen table with your own hands using decoration, you need to remember the strength of the coating being performed - the surface must be resistant to temperature changes, mechanical stress, and should also be easy to clean.

For decoration, you can use the decoupage method, making various collages on the countertop (especially if you use glass as a protective coating for the countertop), painting and screen prints.

We offer you another, in our opinion, a very interesting option - decorating with smalt. This solution will be even more original if the work surface of your masterpiece is made of the same mosaic tiles as the kitchen backsplash.

We will need:

  • Remains of smalt left from the apron, or several matrices (according to the size of the table). As a rule, matrices with tiles have dimensions of 300x300 mm, and the size of smalt squares can vary from 10x10 mm to 20x20 mm;
  • Tile adhesive, grout and an old waffle towel;
  • Masking tape, spatula and scissors;
  • Paint of one of the shades of smalt (on wood); end tape (preferably ABS);
  • Lacquer and wax paste for finishing the countertop;

1st step. Restoration and painting of surfaces - the actions are similar for all similar products and are given above.
2nd step. We glue the ends of the tabletop with masking tape, and apply a thick layer of tile adhesive on the tabletop itself with a spatula, level it, and carefully lay the mosaic matrices pre-fitted in size and color. Gently press down, being careful not to dislodge the pieces. It is necessary to carefully monitor that the ends of the countertop (taking into account the thickness of the smalt) remain even. Let the tiles dry.
3rd step. We do grouting. To do this, we apply the grout diluted to the desired consistency on the mosaic, level it with a spatula, removing excess grout with it. Let it dry a little, and then remove the grout from the smalt with a damp sponge.

Furniture of old production should not be sent to the scrap if damaged or minor flaws appear. It should be better restored, which will allow it to serve for many more years. Consider how to make the restoration of an old table at home without much cost and effort. Naturally, the types of restoration work will depend on the original quality of the product, its design and your design imagination, so it is impossible to foresee absolutely all the details of future activities. Therefore, we restrict ourselves to a description of the most common methods of restoration.

To cover the table, you will need solvent-based enamel in two different colors and a clear varnish.

Necessary materials and tools

To carry out all the necessary procedures, you may need:

  • sandpaper of different types;
  • paint brushes;
  • furniture varnish;
  • polish or furniture mastic;
  • stain or stain;
  • impregnation for wood;
  • felt;
  • putty for wood;
  • rubber spatula;
  • wood glue;
  • jigsaw;
  • veneer.

It should be recalled that restoration involves bringing the product to a state as close as possible to the original version. This is where the main principle of restoration comes from, which prohibits changing the design and color scheme of the product.

Before starting restoration work, the old table will have to be disassembled (although many restorers do not resort to such an operation, arguing that reassembly will violate the integrity of the table and will certainly harm its strength). Each detail will have to be cleaned of the old coating (veneered products are cleaned only of lacquer application). Cleaning is carried out with ordinary sandpaper in a circular motion over the surface of the part. Rough processing is done with paper with a large abrasive. Thin stripping is done by “nulling” (paper with the finest abrasive layer). Next, you have to thoroughly clean all the elements of the table from wood dust and thoroughly ventilate the room. Such a measure is necessary for the reason that the dust settles gradually and during the period of further actions it may fall on the varnish that has not yet hardened, which is highly undesirable. Restoration does not tolerate a superficial attitude to work, so the little things cannot be neglected.

Preliminary work, primary impregnation

Prepared parts must be impregnated with a special solution, which will greatly extend the life of the entire product and protect it from wood pests and fungal diseases. The impregnation should dry in a darkened and well-ventilated area for at least a day.

Impregnation will protect the surface of the wooden table from decay and various types of mold.

The parts are then carefully visually inspected for damage to the wood or veneer. Cracks up to 3 mm are sealed with a special putty. In case of detection of large damages, they must be repaired with veneer. To do this, a thin layer of any watercolor paint is applied around the damage and a sheet of paper is applied on top. The part of the sheet that remains unpainted will be the perfect stencil for the patch. It is to be glued to a sheet of veneer and, using a jigsaw, cut along the resulting contour.

We make a control measurement for the compatibility of the received veneer part and the place of damage. If they match, then you can start gluing the part with wood glue. It is better not to use modern adhesives, as this will disrupt the effect of real antiquity. We remind you that the parts should be pressed tightly against each other and left in this position for gluing for 10-12 hours. After gluing, it is necessary to wipe the joints of the parts with the same fine sandpaper. Using the method described above, even a table with veneer inlay on the surface can be restored.

We will assume that minor cosmetic repairs of all parts are completed, but the restoration has not yet been completed. The table is to be assembled in the primary state and to control the strength of its position on a horizontal surface. We use the old-fashioned way for this: threads are pulled on the opposite legs of an inverted table. For the stability of the table, it is necessary that these threads touch each other (but do not have deflections at the points of contact!).

It is necessary to apply varnish only after the previous layer has completely dried.

By aligning the table legs in one plane, you can continue to restore the product. Restoration of an old table involves varnishing it. But first you need to cover all the details and the entire surface with stain.

You will have to tinker with the choice of color, since you want to achieve the original color, but the range of coloring pigments is not so wide as to satisfy the desires of all consumers. There is an opinion that you first need to experiment with different shades on any wooden surface. By trial and error, you can achieve a color close to what you want, although you will spend a lot of time on it. Restoring an old table for this reason is a lengthy process.

An old table in a home is more than just a piece of furniture. In a sense, this is history, the memory of ancestors, a symbol of the long-term stability of the native home.

An old table can be restored, giving it a second life, and saving yourself a lot of money on buying a new table.

The ideal balance between careful attention to the history of one's own kind and the needs of everyday household comfort is provided by the restoration of the table with one's own hands. Indeed, one should not rush to throw away an old table found in the attic - a good repair can breathe a second life into a dilapidated object, saving its owner's money, intended for the purchase of new furniture.

Perhaps such a repair will also give new aesthetic sensations at the sight of unusual shapes and silhouettes, will delight you with a pleasant warm texture of solid wood, cleaned of dirt and layers of outdated finishes.

But before proceeding to the description of the course of restoration work, let's see what can be used to perform them with the highest quality.

Materials and tools required for restoration

For work on restoring and updating the old table with your own hands, it is recommended to stock up on tools and materials from the following list:

Hand tools for restoration.

  • electric drill, wood drills;
  • a set of chisels;
  • end planer;
  • a hammer;
  • nail puller;
  • screwdrivers (flat and Phillips);
  • clamps;
  • jigsaw (manual or electric);
  • pliers and round nose pliers;
  • hacksaws (for wood and metal);
  • mounting knife;
  • a set of files;
  • measuring devices (ruler, square, tape measure);
  • felt polish;
  • set of brushes;
  • wood glue;
  • acrylic varnish, stain.

Restoration of a wooden table: the order of operations

Restoration begins with the removal of old varnish and paint.

Before proceeding with the implementation of this plan, it is necessary to carefully examine the entire table and its most hidden nooks and crannies. This is done in order to correctly assess the overall technical condition of the item and plan the total amount of work.

Almost any cardinal restoration of the table begins with its disassembly. As a rule, the older the object, the more of its details require serious instrumental intervention. In some cases (if, for example, the countertop has become very warped due to a very long operation), it is simply pointless to restore certain parts - it will turn out to be too expensive and ineffective.

Then it is better to either independently manufacture a product that has finally failed, or order a part from specialists on the side. If the damage from time and from improper storage turned out to be not so destructive, then the old structure should be carefully strengthened. This means, in particular, that existing joints that are not very strong must be tightened, and strongly loose joints must be disassembled, then cleaned and re-twisted or glued.

It has been noticed that in furniture, one of the most affected components over time is the paintwork.

The varnish is stripped from the table to the very base.

Therefore, often when they start updating an old wooden table, you have to deal with peeling off the old paint (which may be laid in several layers) from the table surfaces.

In the presence of too thick coatings or large areas of damaged surface, it is recommended to use a drill with a wire brush attachment or a grinder to remove the paint. After the complete removal of the old paint, the next stage of preparation is carried out.

It consists in degreasing the cleaned surface. This can be done by carefully wiping the wooden parts with a soft cloth soaked in special solvents suitable for this coating, alcohol or acetone. In parallel, obvious defects are polished with sandpaper or a grinder.

However, chronic damage (potholes, scratches, chips, etc.) cannot always be removed by grinding. High-quality restoration involves the obligatory puttying of the surfaces of the old table. At the same time, we must not forget that after the putty has completely dried, all surfaces to be treated must be well sanded again.

If possible, it is desirable to carry out the processing of old wooden parts separately, after carefully separating the table top and underframe. The tabletop is sanded again, after which it is painted with paint suitable for furniture and covered with 2-3 layers of colorless varnish. This operation is carried out without haste, with keeping each layer of paint and varnish until they are completely dry.

in the presence of faults, these places are glued and tightly pressed against each other with a clamp.

Another part of the table - the underframe - often requires even more attention than the tabletop. After many years of operation, it may have cracks in parts and serious fractures. If the owner of such a rarity nevertheless decides to restore it, then he should first, using the appropriate tools, disconnect the legs from the underframe.

Fault points for further connection of parted parts must be glued. Then, using clamps, these parts are pressed tightly against each other. Sometimes, for better tightening of dried parts to each other, you can use self-tapping screws, which are very useful in uncomfortable places where it is difficult or impossible to install a clamp.

After the glue dries (after about 12-15 hours), the screws are removed from the wooden elements of the table. The tabletop and underframe are connected to each other either with glue or with a removable connection, which will be very useful in small apartments.

The restoration of the table ends with varnishing of the wooden parts. But before that, they must be opened with stain. To avoid streaks, it is better to do this with a piece of soft foam rubber. After the stain has dried, the wooden surfaces of the table are primed with a transparent varnish (primer) and lightly treated with a thin sandpaper.

How can you restore "specialized" tables?

When updating tables, you should always take into account their purpose and where they will be in the future:

A table for a nursery can be decorated with photographs and drawings.

  1. Table for children. It is recommended that after cleaning the tabletop from old paint and sanding, stick clippings from bright glossy magazines or children's pictures on its surface. Then all this is covered with 4 layers of acrylic varnish.
  2. Dressing table restoration. An original solution can be to remake an old toiletry table into a sink stand. In the middle of the table, a hole is cut out of such a size that a sink can fit into it, but without significant protrusions above the surface of the table. Ceramic tiles can be glued to the remaining space on the countertop.
  3. Kitchen table. You can paint an old piece of furniture with some bright paint. A film is glued onto the painted tabletop, which, for example, imitates beautiful lace. However, the film can not be glued to the countertop, but attached from below with special brackets.
  4. Desk update. You can cover the old countertop with some wallpaper with a spectacular print. To give furniture freshness and solidity, wallpapers that imitate the texture of wood of any valuable species are well suited. To give the composition a sense of wholeness and completeness, the legs of the table can be varnished in wood tones.
  5. Coffee table. With this option, a bright pattern with geometric elements will harmonize well. As a background for it, it is better to choose some kind of soft paint, which is recommended to be applied to the countertop with an airbrush. The geometric pattern is applied to the dried painted surface with a brush or special masking tape. Fragments between the stripes can be filled with paints of bright colors.

The kitchen table can be decorated using decoupage technique.

If the legs of the table are detached from the underframe, it is worthwhile to mark in advance exactly where the particular leg was located. Each leg should be installed in the place where it was before repair.

When covering the table with a white primer, one must be prepared for the fact that then almost all defects will become visible on its surfaces.

In order to provide furniture surfaces with maximum strength, the varnish coating should have at least 3 layers made with a paint roller, 5 layers with an airbrush and 10 layers with a cotton swab.

Sanding wood countertops should be along the grain of the wood. If you do this across the fibers, there will be noticeable small risks on the countertop.

Taking on the restoration of old furniture with your own hands, you should also think about the fact that this process is not only an opportunity to save your money, but also a great chance to reveal your talent as a home design master.

Do you have an old wooden table lying around in your closet or attic? Have you completely forgotten about him? But it can be repaired, restored and it will be no worse than a new one. And as furniture is made now, so the old table will be even stronger than the new one!

From an old table, you can recreate an elegant table for writing or a kitchen.

An exclusive look when modernizing the table will give a contrasting combination of antique wood carvings and a glass top.

Table restoration

The restoration of the table begins with the removal of old tiles from the tabletop, which were previously inserted into the oak edging that runs around the entire perimeter of the table. Tiles must be carefully removed with a spatula or scraper.

If in your case the countertop is not decorated with tiles, then the coating that treated the old table is subject to removal.

Then comes the turn of the edge of the table - it is treated with a high-quality grinding block. This stage smoothly turns into the cleaning of all wood with the help of wet grinding. In this case, it should be borne in mind that grinding is carried out strictly in one direction - along the fibers of the tree. Otherwise, unsightly risks will remain across the countertop, which will only disfigure the old wooden table more.

Before proceeding with varnishing, it is advisable to open the wood with a stain. The base and color of the product is selected taking into account the type of wood, for example, light stains on alcohol are ideal for oak. If the wood is slightly moistened before processing, then the staining will turn out to be more uniform.

The wood is well moistened with stain, the excess can be easily removed with a brush. When using a water-soluble stain, wood fibers tend to straighten out, which requires grinding with a fine-grained sandpaper after drying. It is better to apply the product on a wooden table with a piece of foam rubber, since smudges remain after the brush. When the stain dries, the entire furniture surface should be treated with a transparent primer or a layer of priming varnish should be applied to it.

Restoration of a wooden table is completed by applying a matting solution to the lacquer surface using a swab.

In conclusion, good quality glass is installed on the countertop.

If the countertop is badly damaged, it can be replaced with thick glass.

It is possible to build in a multi-colored backlight under the glass of the table. See what a beauty!

Decoupage table

Decoupage an old table to turn it into a beautiful piece of home art.

For we need

  1. Sandpaper or grinder
  2. acrylic paint
  3. putty
  4. acrylic paint
  5. Varnish in a can
  6. Napkins, wallpapers or cards for decoupage
  7. PVA glue
  8. File or plastic bag

Preparatory work for decoupage is the same as for painting: disassembly and cleaning with sandpaper.

After that, it is necessary to perform puttying, the composition for which you can buy at any hardware store. Do not forget to dry the product well for several hours..

You can choose any pattern, make the item themed for a particular interior. For example, a chair can be pasted over with a geographical map. Wrapping paper or even wallpaper is perfect for decorating an old table. You can embellish furniture with cutouts from napkins, most often a floral ornament is used in decoupage of old furniture, but this is the easiest way. You can make decoupage even with the help of old newspapers or pages from useless books. Anything can be used: cards, postcards, wallpapers, magazine clippings, deliberately printed illustrations.

If you want to add vivid details to the image, paint with watercolors and a brush. You can not only highlight some elements, but also create shadows and volume for the picture.

You can also decorate a wooden table with PVA glue and paint. In this case, you will be able to shabby chic artwork. With your own hands you can make a beautiful and unusual piece of furniture. To do this, mix the glue with the paint to obtain the desired shade, prime the prepared table surface, apply the paint and, without waiting for drying, dry the countertop with a hair dryer. In the process, you will see shabby chic cracks begin to appear on the surface.

An old table, chair, chest of drawers, bedside table, transformed using decoupage technique, will become the main decoration of your interior!
