Photo ideas for decorating the house with garlands

On the eve of the New Year, I really want to cheer myself up and believe in a miracle. This can be done using a regular garland, hung in any place convenient for you. How to hang a garland without damaging the wall decoration or window? Below we will tell you everything about the fastening technology, and also consider decor options.

Agree that it is difficult to achieve a festive atmosphere without bright lights. Moreover, you can decorate not only the Christmas tree with them, but also any surfaces you wish. A garland harmoniously matched to the interior of the room will delight the eyes of adults and children throughout the holidays. The advantage of modern products is that you can choose options for both interior design and outdoor placement.

The entire range of garlands is divided into two groups according to the type of light elements:

  • light bulbs connected to each other alternately;
  • LEDs, a more economical option in terms of electricity consumption.

Garlands are also divided according to the nature of the glow, length, size and other technical characteristics. The following types of products can be found on sale:

These are not all types of holiday garlands. For example, there is also a rain garland, “icicles”, a curtain, Clip-light, etc. The overall atmosphere of the home will depend on how you hang the garland at home.

Choosing the right garland

Light bulbs come in different colors: plain, multi-colored, curly, etc. Think in advance which garland will fit more harmoniously into your home. The right decoration will not only help decorate your interior, but also highlight its benefits. Do not forget also about the purpose of the room in which you plan to hang the decor.

For admirers of classics and calm tones in design, a multi-colored garland is suitable. Against the background of light walls, it will be a bright spot and will definitely not go unnoticed. For a minimalist style or Scandinavian motifs, choose a monochromatic glow. Lights in warm colors are suitable for a child's room. You can choose light bulbs in the shape of the month, forest animals, or Christmas trees.

It is not at all necessary that the garland be expensive. You can even try to make it yourself, the main thing is to understand how beautifully you can hang the garland on a wall, window or other chosen place.

A lot depends on the fastening

Choosing the right garland is half the battle. It is necessary to securely fix it in the desired position and not damage the finish. Before hanging the garland on the wall, select the appropriate fastenings.

The choice of fasteners is based on weight, materials used to make the garland and the surface of the wall or window.

If the light bulbs are light enough, you can use double-sided tape, but not on wallpaper. It is better to mount it on the plastic surface of windows, cornices or window sills. It is recommended to hang the garland on the roof using nails, because... Such structures are quite heavy and the tape will not support them. Small nails are also used to secure the lights to the wall, bending their caps upward in the shape of hooks. After removing the decor, if there are any holes left on the surface, they will be completely invisible. The garland can be attached to plastic surfaces using transparent hooks with suction cups.

There are special mounts for garlands on sale. For example, easy-to-remove clips with a transparent Command system. They are hooks on the front side, and are glued to the surface using strips like double-sided tape. The fasteners are absolutely invisible on the wall. After removal, they do not leave sticky or greasy stains.

How to hang a garland beautifully?

The process of installing the garland will not cause any difficulties. The main thing is to prepare the necessary tools and materials in advance, and also think about how you can hang the garland.

Instead of a chair or stool, it is better to use a stepladder. It is more stable and safe. You will also need the garland itself, previously checked for serviceability, fasteners, and decoration elements. If the garland is long, then it is better to wind it into a ball and then unwind it as it is attached. When the preparatory stages are completed, it’s time to proceed directly to the decor.

How to beautifully hang a garland on the wall?

There are many ideas for decorating walls, but most often they are decorated with a composition in the form of a Christmas tree. The places where the fasteners will be mounted are marked on the surface. The installed hooks should face left and right on each side respectively. Starting from the top, a garland in the shape of a Christmas tree is hooked onto the hooks. The trajectory of the garland can be different: zigzag or in the form of triangles of different sizes.

How to hang a garland on a window?

The garland is attached to the window using plastic clips or buttons if the frames are wooden. Depending on the type of garland, the method of attaching it is selected. For the mesh, hooks are installed in the corners of the window opening, and the product itself is stretched and hooked onto them with its edges.

If “fringe” is chosen for decoration, then to install it over the window opening, you can stretch a fishing line and use it as a cornice. An ordinary ribbon garland is secured with tape to the frame in any order or by making a specific ornament.

Decor ideas

Create a unique decoration from a regular ribbon garland. No room for a real Christmas tree? Lay out a luminous ribbon in the shape of a tree, hang small toys on it and your impromptu Christmas tree is ready.

You can write “Happy New Year” from duralight on the wall or ceiling. Use multi-colored cords to lay out shapes in the form of a deer, a snowman or a box with a gift. They also decorate the street space, entwining trees, bushes, columns.

In a children's room, you can make a real starry sky from glowing stars. In the bedroom, a garland on the head of the bed will create a romantic atmosphere. Show your imagination, and then your home will be filled with an atmosphere of joy and magic.

Safety precautions when working with garlands

Remember that garlands, although a type of decoration, are still electrical products. Make sure that all wires are well insulated. It is not recommended to connect more than 500 light bulbs to one network.

If you use garlands to decorate the street, make sure that they match in appearance. Ordinary house lights can sparkle in the rain and then the entire electrical wiring system will be “covered.”

If you want to connect one garland to another, make sure that they have the same voltage. Incompatibility can also have a detrimental effect on the power system.

Coming New Year and I want to create a New Year's mood in the house. One way is to hang various new Year decoration. One of these decorations is garland. In this New Year's article, I want to tell you how to hang garland on the window and how to calculate the required length Garlands.

To hang a garland on a window you will need:

  1. Hooks for garlands, the same as those shown in the photo below or similar.
  2. A thread-type garland is when there are many light bulbs on a long wire.
  3. Roulette or ruler.
  4. Super glue.
  5. Pencil.
  6. Any degreaser, such as alcohol.
  7. Calculator, but you can do without it.

I used special transparent hooks for garlands, I bought them in a large hardware store in the fasteners department. If you plan to dismantle the hooks after the New Year, use double tape or the included self-adhesive strips instead of super glue. The advantage of such hooks is that they are not visible, and they do not spoil the appearance of the window at all.

This is what the hook looks like garlands on the side.

A garland is hung on the window like a snake, with the help of hooks it will pass along the window several times at a certain interval. You can see what it looks like in the photographs below.

First let's measure the length Garlands(the length of the part with the light bulbs). We measure the height of the window, or rather the vertical distance between future hooks; it will depend on where you decide to glue the hooks, on the glass or at the base of the frame. We also need the length of the window. Knowing these dimensions, you can use the formulas given to calculate the required dimensions. Below I will use the dimensions of my window and Garlands.

My length Garlands about 6.65 meters (180 bulbs), the window height is 1.25 meters, and the window length is 46 cm. Mine Garlands enough for 5 visits. Therefore I will need 10 hooks. The distance between the hooks will be 10 cm, then I can fully use the length Garlands.

We make an indent of 3 cm from the beginning of the window and put the first mark with a pencil, put the next 4 every 10 cm, as shown in the photo.

We perform similar actions for the top part of the window.

Now you need to degrease the surface where the hooks are glued and the hooks themselves for garlands. This is done for more reliable gluing. After this, apply glue to the hook and stick it to the selected place next to the mark. It is necessary that the lower hooks point downwards and the upper ones upwards. After all the hooks are glued, you can erase the marks.

We wait for the glue to dry and begin installation. Hang a garland we start from the top if you, like me, have an odd number of segments, and from the bottom if there is an even number. We start on the opposite side of the outlet.

We repeat this action with all hooks.

In the end it should turn out that part garlands with light bulbs will end exactly on the last hook, at the bottom of the window on the socket side.

Like this garland looks after installation on the window.

After switching on garland will illuminate the entire window and delight others, creating a New Year's festive mood in the house.

Calculation of the length of the garland.

Silent mathematics for those who love precision. First, let's decide on the length Garlands. Let's calculate how long you will need garland, if we know approximately how many vertical approaches Garlands we want to do:

Where, L– required length Garlands, cm; h– window height, cm; n- how many times garland will run along the window, l – window length, cm; 6 – this is taking into account indents from the edges of the window, see.

The first electric garland was created specifically for decorating a Christmas tree. Previously, it was customary to decorate the Christmas tree with real candles, lighting them for show. This, of course, was very dangerous. The production of electric garlands not only significantly reduced the likelihood of a fire, but also gave the holiday tree a much more beautiful and elegant look. Over time, the light bulbs became multi-colored and blinking - banal lighting turned into magic.

By the way, in some languages, electric garlands are called fairy lights. Is a fairy tale only appropriate for New Year and Christmas? Of course not. Other holidays began to be decorated with electric garlands: for example, birthdays, graduations, weddings. Many different ways to use these light strings have been invented. Now garlands are not considered exclusively for Christmas tree decor, but are used everywhere.

We bring to your attention several ideas for decorating the interior with fairy lights.

Interior decor with electric garland

Radiant outline

The garland is convenient to use for outlining the silhouette of various interior items: furniture, mirrors, fireplaces, windows, etc.

What could be simpler? Simply place the center part of the garland, for example, on the lid of a dresser or cabinet and leave the edges hanging freely. Or fix the garland on the headboard of the bed, curtain rod, around the perimeter of the mirror, etc.

To place the wire with the light bulbs directly on the wall, you can use push pins (if the wall is, for example, plasterboard) or tape.

Wonderful Lantern

Fill a candle lantern or a transparent container made of glass, crystal, plastic (vase, jar or even bottle) with a garland.

This decorative element looks like a magic lantern, from which fairy-tale creatures light the lights on our Christmas trees.

LED garlands with microbulbs, including battery-powered ones, are especially convenient for such decor.

Imitation of fire

Miniature light bulbs look so much like little smoldering flames. To create a decorative composition, use stones, branches or some firewood. Place them on a tray or some other container and decorate them with an electric garland. This design can be used to decorate a coffee table or an area near a holiday tree.

Shimmering draperies

The combination of tiny light bulbs and translucent fabric is amazingly effective! Glowing fabric decor is used to decorate accent walls - for example, or a bed. Garlands also complement existing canopies and curtains. This creates a truly fabulous atmosphere in the interior.

Photo gallery

The wire with light bulbs can be used as a photo holder. Place the garland on the wall in a zigzag or waves and secure. Select touching photos from past holidays and hang them on clothespins from the garland.

A holiday gallery can be made not only from photographs, but also from snowflakes, postcards or pictures depicting winter landscapes, deer, Father Frost and the Snow Maiden, etc.

Festive wreath

A Christmas wreath usually consists of a solid frame and a braid, which can be an electric garland. The frame can be made of wire or branches. For a wreath frame of an atypical shape (for example, in the shape of a star), wooden slats are suitable.

Christmas decorations, live or artificial pine needles, Christmas tree beads, pine cones - place all the New Year's treasures in transparent vases and decorate with garlands of lights.
