Installation instructions for roller blinds. Roller blinds without drilling: design possibilities (22 photos)

Not many people know that blinds were invented several centuries ago. Today it is one of the most popular decorative and protective devices for windows. The article will discuss how to independently hang blinds on plastic windows. You will be able to find out what types of window multi-leaf curtains are and how to properly install vertical and horizontal blinds.

Kinds

Blinds- one of the types of window curtains, devices in the form of rigid, arranged parallel to each other and adjustable plates, made of various materials - fabric, wood, metal, plastic. They have several functions:

  • protect from light
  • decorate the window
  • regulate air flow.
There are several types of blinds. The most common of them are:
  • horizontal;
  • vertical;
  • roll;
  • pleated.
Let's take a look at the advantages and disadvantages of each type.

Did you know? The official history of the invention of blinds begins in 1841. It was in this year that their production was patented by the American John Hampton, although the production of rigid curtains was carried out before. So, since the 1760s, they were produced in Philadelphia by the Englishman John Webster.

Horizontal

Horizontal or Venetian blinds are thin plates (lamellas) that are arranged one above the other like a ladder. They are interconnected by a cord that allows you to open and close them, as well as adjust the height. The plates are controlled by a rotary rod. Lamels can be made of different materials - wood, metal, bamboo, fabric.

The main advantages of these types of curtains are:

  • good sun protection
  • increased heat transfer;
  • the ability to control the intensity of lighting;
  • reliability;
  • durability;
  • ease of maintenance and operation;
  • the ability to visually expand the size of the room;
  • easy installation;
  • the ability to use for any premises, including kitchen, bath, balcony;
  • low cost.
There are no downsides to horizontal blinds. They can be present only depending on the material from which they are made. We will discuss them in more detail in a separate section below.

vertical

Vertical blinds appeared somewhat later than horizontal ones - in 1960. However, they quickly gained popularity and today are successfully used to decorate various rooms.

These are plastic, metal or fabric lamellas suspended on a cornice in a vertical position parallel to each other and connected at the bottom with a cord. They are regulated by a side mechanism that rotates the plates - with the help of a decorative cord (chain) they turn, with the help of a rope they move in one direction, fully or partially opening the window.

The advantages of vertical blinds are:

  • versatility - the ability to install in window openings, to the ceiling, to the wall above the window, installation in skylights and ordinary windows;
  • ease of installation;
  • ease of care;
  • effective regulation of the flow of sunlight;
  • good air access when dimming;
  • the possibility of combining with ordinary curtains;
  • the ability to visually increase the height of the room.
Among the shortcomings should be mentioned:
  • inconvenience when shifting to the side when opening the window;
  • the impossibility of placing flowers on the windowsill when fastened to the window opening.

Rolled

Roller blinds have recently entered the field of view of modern apartment design. Preference is given to them by those who love coziness and comfort in the house. It is they who are able to create them in the bedroom, living room and kitchen. In addition, the appearance of roller blinds is more attractive than other types, while the functionality also remains on top.

They are designed in the form of a horizontal shaft, on which a roll of fabric is wound, and a control mechanism in the form of a cord, a spring holder or an electric drive. The fabric can be lowered and raised to the desired length, completely or partially closing the window. Roller blinds are mounted in the window opening, on the ceiling or on the wall, on the window sash.

The advantages of roller blinds are:

  • ease of operation;
  • ease of care - the fabric is impregnated with dust and water-repellent composition;
  • the possibility of implementing any design idea;
  • durability;
  • good protection from sunlight and overheating of the room;
  • the ability to create any degree of illumination of the room;
  • environmental friendliness;
  • ergonomics;
  • possibility of installation on skylights;
  • when installed on each sash, there is no interference with opening windows and decorating the window sill;
  • the possibility of making curtains from transparent materials.

The disadvantages include the price, which is much higher than the more familiar and common horizontal and vertical designs, as well as the fragility of the spring holder.

Cassette blinds are one of the types of roller blinds. This is an option designed for plastic windows. It is assumed that the slats or a fabric roll are hidden in a specially designed box (cassette) attached to the window sash when closing.

This design allows you to save space, free the window and window sill, additionally protect the material from dust, dirt, and deformation. Cassette options are made of fabric, bamboo, aluminum, plastic. There are three types of cassettes: round, angled and flat.

Pleated

Another option for fabric blinds is pleated blinds. As the name already implies, these are fabric curtains assembled in a small fold. Their choice is huge and is represented by various colors, density of fabric material, shapes. Some of them are sewn according to a special pattern.

Thanks to this, pleated curtains can fit into any interior, creating an original atmosphere. This option is a piece of fabric, which is attached to a special profile and is controlled by a chain, cord or electric drive.

Advantages of pleated blinds:

  • originality;
  • external attractiveness;
  • good functionality;
  • durability;
  • reliability;
  • miniature design;
  • the possibility of designing a window of any shape and from any material.

Original and sophisticated solutions in the interior are not complete without the use of multiimpressive blinds, i.е. those in which the lamellas are made of various materials using a variety of decor.

Varieties of material

As already mentioned, at different times the blinds were made from different textures. Today, the most common materials for window hard curtains are fabric, plastic and aluminum, less often wood. Each of them has both pluses and minuses.

fabric

Textile blinds- this is one of the best options for decorating windows and protecting the room from sunlight in apartments and houses. There are both horizontal and vertical designs.

Many people are drawn to the look and color options of fabric blinds, but are put off by the notion that they require the same maintenance as regular curtains. However, it is not.

Textiles for blinds are impregnated with special impregnations that prevent dirt, dust and moisture from being absorbed. Care will consist only in periodically wiping the material with a slightly damp cloth and vacuuming.
High-quality textile blinds do not fade, do not deform, fit into any interior, and are not too expensive. However, compared to metal, plastic and wooden structures, they have a shorter service life. Textile models are not the best option for the kitchen or catering establishments, as they can absorb odors.

Did you know? The first blinds were made from wooden plates. They were replaced by metal curtains. After World War II, fabrics were also used to make window guards.

Plastic

One of the most purchased types, due to its low price and the possibility of using it in various premises - office, apartment, public, utility, with high humidity. The polymers from which the lamellas are made can be with varying degrees of light transmission, various colors, with or without patterns. They are practical, lightweight, easy to install and maintain, and are sold at the best price.
Among the disadvantages:

  • creating noise in a draft, with open windows;
  • some polymers turn yellow under prolonged exposure to sunlight;
  • cannot be used near stoves and other heating devices due to poor resistance to fire;
  • release of toxic substances in case of fire.

Aluminum

Along with plastic, aluminum blinds are also popular. They have high strength, durability, fire resistance, ability to withstand different temperatures, moisture. They are often used to protect windows in public places, offices, medical institutions. They have an attractive price. They can be horizontal, vertical, cassette.

Among the shortcomings - a heavier weight, the creation of a noise effect in a draft.

Wooden

Wooden blinds are used in certain types of interiors, they go well with fabric curtains and natural wood furniture. They allow you to create a warm homely atmosphere. They are reliable, durable, durable, environmentally friendly, protect well from the sun. However, they are one of the most expensive options.

Installation technology

Blinds can be installed without the help of professionals. We offer you instructions for working with horizontal and vertical hard curtains.

Horizontal

Horizontal structures can be fixed in four ways:

  • to the ceiling;
  • to the wall above the window;
  • in the window opening;
  • to window sashes.
First you need to take measurements. The height and width of the window opening is measured with a tape measure. On a sheet of paper, it is necessary to draw a diagram of the window, on which measurements will be taken in the future.

When installing curtains in a window opening their size is calculated by subtracting 1 cm from the height, 2 cm from the width.

When installed above a window opening the size of the blinds is calculated based on the addition of 5-7 cm to its height and 20 cm to its width.

When attached to the sash the width is measured from the junction of the glazing bead with the window on the left side to the junction of the glazing bead with the window on the right side, adding 1 cm.

When measuring height on a blind window 3 cm is added to the distance from the glazing bead to the glazing bead, on the sash - 4 cm.

Video: how to measure horizontal blinds

Conventional horizontal blinds consist of the following elements:

  • upper part - swivel axle, rollers, cornice, brackets, cord retainer, swivel mechanism, top cover;
  • the middle part - lamellas and a plug;
  • lower part - lower cornice, side covers.
The following tools are required for installation:
  • screwdriver;
  • pencil;
  • screws.

The technology for mounting finished aluminum blinds on plastic windows is as follows:
  1. Straighten the structure.
  2. Remove control knob.
  3. Attach fasteners to the top bar.
  4. Attach the structure to the installation site and mark the places for attaching the brackets. The distance between them must be at least 60 cm.
  5. Attach the brackets to the wall, window frame or sash.
  6. Insert the top cornice into the brackets.
  7. Open the blinds and mark the places for attaching the lower clamps.
  8. Attach bottom fasteners.
  9. Insert adjusting knob.

Important!Care must be taken to ensure that the brackets do not get into the control mechanism, cord retainer or caliper..

If the finished blinds are longer than necessary, they can be trimmed. To do this, remove the side and remove the lower latches from the bottom bar. Then pull out the knots of the cord from the two holes formed and untie them. Remove excess slats. Re-insert the cords into the holes of the bottom bar and tie knots. Return the lower and side clamps.

You can also shorten the blinds in width, but this is much more difficult to do. In order not to spoil the curtain, it is better to contact the master. For trimming, you need a hacksaw with fine teeth. The slats should be folded into one strip and sawn off to the required length. Then polish the ends with a file, if necessary - tint.

Installing roller blinds

To install roller blinds on a wall, in an opening or on a ceiling, you will need drilling and a drill or punch, depending on the material from which the ceiling and walls are made. Roller blinds are attached to plastic or wooden windows using double-sided adhesive tape and PVC staples without drilling.

If the blinds are attached to the sash, then to calculate their dimensions, you will need to know not only the width and height of the window, but also the depth of the glazing bead. The choice of system will depend on the latter size. With a bead depth of more than 1.5 cm, you need to pay attention to the Uni type system, up to 1.5 cm - Profil and Mini.
Add 3 cm to the width of the glass - this will be the width of the curtain. The length of standard curtains is about 2 m. If they are too long for your windows, they can be cut.

Important! The length of the roller blinds is calculated based on the fact that there must be at least 50 cm of fabric on the roll.

The technology for mounting roller blinds without drilling is as follows:

  1. Install a cap on one end of the roll, and a swivel mechanism with a plastic chain on the other.
  2. Insert the latch into the bracket and fasten it to the bracket.
  3. Install the brackets on the roll according to the instructions.
  4. Attach the curtain to the attachment point.
  5. Mark the mounting points for the brackets.
  6. Make sure that nothing prevents the opening of the curtains.
  7. Degrease the place of attachment of the brackets.
  8. Stick adhesive tape on the sash at the place where the bracket is attached.
  9. Degrease brackets.
  10. Peel off the protective tape of the tape.
  11. Hang the blinds by pressing the adhesive tape at the attachment point.

Video: how to install roller blinds

If you purchased a ready-made curtain, but it does not fit your window, then its size can be reduced. In order to shorten them in width, you will need to cut the roll, web and bottom rail. It is much easier to cut the fabric to length. The fabric is cut with ordinary scissors under the ruler, and then the bottom rail is attached to it.

Installation of cassette blinds

Cassette blinds are also attached with adhesive tape. In order to install them, you need:

  1. Print product.
  2. Degrease the attachment point to the window frame.
  3. Attach the cassette to the attachment point and lower the fabric to the lower position.
  4. Mark the location of the cassette attachment with a pencil.
  5. Remove the protective film from the adhesive tape attached to the back of the cassette.
  6. Attach the cassette to the frame, press and hold for a few seconds.
  7. Carefully remove the protective tape from the top edge of the metal fabric guides on both sides.
  8. Install the guides into the groove of the cassette of the shade body and press down.
  9. Gradually removing the protective layer of adhesive tape, press the guides parallel to the frame glazing bead.
  10. Do the same on the other side.
  11. Install a limiter.

vertical

Vertical curtains can be attached in three ways:

  • in the window opening;
  • to the wall above the window;
  • to the ceiling.
They can have left-hand, right-hand and central control. Below you will find instructions on how to install vertical rigid curtains on your own.

In the window opening

To calculate the dimensions, you need to measure the width of the window opening and subtract 1-1.5 cm. Measure the height of the opening and subtract 1.5-2 cm. Measurements must be taken 5-7 cm deep into the opening, since it usually narrows. To make sure that after installing the blinds the sash will open, you need to measure the distance from the top edge of the sash to the upper slope of the eaves installation point. The distance must be at least 4.5 cm. Otherwise, you will have to measure in the overlay. Because the window may be uneven, the width and height must be measured at three points.

You can attach vertical blinds to the window opening in this way:

  1. Mark the mounting points.
  2. Drill holes.
  3. Install brackets.
  4. Insert the cornice into the special grooves on the holders and snap the locks.
  5. Install fabric.
  6. Insert weights.
  7. Fasten the bottom chain.

Above the windows

To calculate the size, add at least 18-20 cm to the width of the window opening on each side. You will also need to measure the distance from the ceiling to the upper corner of the slope. At least 10 cm should be retreated from the upper slope angle. Measurements with fastening to the ceiling are made by subtracting 1-2 cm from the distance "ceiling - window sill", "ceiling - floor" - 4-7 cm.

Professionals know what roller blinds are, how to assemble them and install them. If these processes are done by hand, you will need to find out the principle of curtains.

Roller blinds can be attached to the window in two ways: with double-sided tape or with self-tapping screws to the bracket.

Sequencing

Roller blinds consist of a bracket, a control mechanism, a control chain limiter, a bracket area for fixing curtains, grippers. Some products are equipped with an additional curtain fixation system used for an opening window. Assemble the bracket first. To do this, you need to fix its constituent elements.

Scheme of assembly of the roller blinds bracket.

Double-sided tape is glued to the bracket. If installation work is carried out using self-tapping screws, then the platform is not required. The brackets are connected to the platforms until they click. To fix the parameters of the product, the design is assembled on the windowsill. Then it is applied to the window sash. Make marks with a pencil for the location of the right and left platforms. The next step involves the final gluing of the platform to the sash.

Before carrying out this procedure, the surface is degreased. To do this, use alcohol or gasoline for lighters. Double sided tape can only be applied once. If the right bracket is fixed, put the shaft on it. Fabric is wound on the last unit. The left bracket is attached to the structure. Make a mark on the location of the appropriate site. The left bracket is disconnected from the platform. The last element is glued on the window profile, taking into account the marks made.

The shaft is inserted into the right bracket. The left analog is fixed. The curtain falls. The location of the magnetic latch will need to be marked with a pencil. The curtain is attached to the sash, taking into account the width of the fabric. If necessary, a specialist can take measurements.

Assembly process without box

Roller blinds of various systems, including Mini, are delivered unassembled without a box. The assembly of such a system begins with a section of the package and a study of the instructions. The line is threaded through the holes provided in the corners. Double knots are made at the ends of the line. The string is cut in half. The capsules are inserted into the curtain shaft and snapped into the corners.

Subsequent assembly is carried out simultaneously with the installation of the entire structure. There are several methods of fastening the product in question.

If roller blinds are installed on the sash of a window opening, there is a minimal loss of usable space.

Initially, you need to measure the product.

Roller blinds are presented in the form of a simple design. The fabric is wound on a shaft. The device has a special mechanism for lowering and raising curtains without a box. If such products are made to order, then the canvas does not need to be adjusted. Otherwise, the curtains are cut.

To do this, you need to take measurements. The length of the roll web is the distance between the outer edges of the horizontal glazing beads, the width is the distance between the corresponding vertical elements. The canvas is unfolded and removed from the shaft. A cap with a protrusion is mounted on the shaft.

Roller blinds are spread on a flat surface. On the product, measure the desired width and make a mark. Curtains can be cut with scissors or a utility knife. The next step involves fixing them to the shaft. First you need to remove the protective film from the surface of the last element. The upper edge of the product is folded up by 5 cm. The shaft is placed in a niche with a strip upwards. The installation of the 1st element is carried out in a horizontal position.

There are many types of light-protective canvases, but they have common features. All of them consist of a metal pipe-roller, or a rod, on which a fabric is wound: bamboo or cotton material. The length is adjusted by means of a chain, which is attached to the rotating mechanism on one side of the roll.

Usually at the bottom of the curtain there is a steel or wooden plank-weight, which protects it from deformation, allows it to hang evenly and fit snugly against the glass. The latter is achieved with a pair of small magnets that are glued to the bottom of the frame and attract the weighting agent if it is metal.

You can go a more complicated way and pass a fishing line through the guides, which will hold the roller shutter when the wind fluctuates and opens in the "window" mode. It must first be threaded into the upper fasteners several times so that it does not pull out when pulled. Unwind it to the end, put it in a special eyelet on the weighting bar. Fasten small corners with holes for fishing line at the bottom of the frame. Stretch it there, tie it, cut off the excess.

Sometimes manufacturers install a spring inside the shaft. In this case, it is not necessary to touch the cord with your hands to open or close. It is enough with a little effort to pull the plumb line, located on the bottom bar.

Installation sequence:

  1. We outline the location of the fasteners.
  2. We drill holes, put the side clamps in place, fix them with self-tapping screws.
  3. We put the roller with the cloth in place, close the plugs.
  4. We prepare the guides for installation, remove the protective tape from the self-adhesive layer. We lower the curtain by 20-25 cm.
  5. We put the canvas under the guides and carefully glue them into place.
  6. We install limiters on the chain mechanism or a decorative weight on the weighting bar. We check the functionality.

Installing cassette models

  1. Mark up first.
  2. Using a level, correct the "horizon" of the location of the roller shutter.
  3. Drill holes at the marked points.
  4. Using self-tapping screws at the top of the double-glazed window, screw the box with the roll rolled up inside it.
  5. If you do not want to make holes, use tape at least a millimeter thick. But first, cast a spell over the markings so that the box hangs evenly.

Rolleta - the good decision for any interiors. They are practical, beautiful and allow you to effectively adjust the degree of illumination of the room. Night/day roller blinds are especially good for this. For those who do not want to give up traditional curtains, we can advise you to use them complete with rolls. Very interesting and functional combinations are obtained.

Ergonomic roller blinds: how to fix, all installation methods

Roller blinds protect the room from the sun, give an original and colorful decorative look to any room. Roller blinds, how to fasten - this question arises among the newly minted owners of a fashionable and practical decoration for the window. Having appeared not so long ago, they have already become a favorite finishing touch in the design of window openings in residential and office premises. When choosing and installing curtains, it is necessary to take into account various nuances: the type and type of fasteners, their combination with heavy curtains or light curtains. All this will create comfort and eliminate the feeling of dissonance in the interior.

Methods for attaching roller blinds: typical features

A variety of models of roller blinds allows you to choose the most optimal option for you, depending on the functional purpose. Depending on the modification and window composition, roller blinds are attached to the ceiling, wall or directly to the window sash. Therefore, it is worth talking separately about the types of roll structures. There are two types: open and closed. Let's consider them in more detail.

Rolled structures of open type

Open roll structures allow you to mount curtains, both in the window and above it. Depending on the modification, there are several types of open fastening methods.

Among the most common:

The principle of operation of open roller blinds: the fabric is wound onto a shaft, and thanks to a heavy bar, they unwind and hang on the frame

  • Use of guides with a hook;
  • Fastening with mounting double-sided adhesive tape;
  • It is allowed to use hanger mounts that are not suitable for each frame;
  • Fastening with self-tapping screws is the simplest and most common way;

Open design types are considered multi-purpose. Among them, you can choose mechanisms that will allow you to fix the blinds not only on metal-plastic windows, but also on wooden ones. Manufacturers of roller blinds do not limit the flight of your design fantasy in any room.

Closed roll construction

When using a closed-type design in fastening roller curtains, several features must be taken into account. The main difference from the previous type is the presence of a box. If until recently it was believed that a closed-type structure for attaching a roller blind can only be fixed to plastic windows, today they can be seen on wooden and aluminum frames.

A shaft is hidden in closed roller blinds, along the edges there are guides that prevent the canvas from moving away or moving aside

There are designs of various sizes on the market. It is the size of the box that plays an important role when fastening curtains. When choosing an overall roller blind, you should choose a design with a large box and a durable roller shaft. In this case, the curtain is fixed on the ceiling. If it is possible to use guides, do not neglect them.

However, regardless of the type of construction, the principle of fastening and the operation of the mechanism are the same. With a roller blind, you can darken the room at any time or, by lifting the curtain, let the sun's rays fill the room with their cheerfulness.

Installation of roller blinds: caution and accuracy

Roller blinds have quickly become fashionable and are gaining more and more popularity. They are a web of fabric that is wound on a special shaft using control mechanisms and fixed in any position at a level that is comfortable for you. There are a number of rules that must be observed when installing a roller blind system.

It is worth using roller blinds very carefully, since they have plastic parts for fasteners.

Let's take as an example the installation of one of the types of roller blind design:

  1. Carefully unpack and check that all accessories are included. Dissolve the control chain and remove the side covers from the eaves;
  2. Attach the cornice to the window and check how symmetrical the gap is between the window and the curtain;
  3. Mark the places of the intended fasteners;
  4. Fix the cornice on the vertical bar of the window with self-tapping screws;
  5. Put covers on the control unit and check the fastening;
  6. Before gluing the side rails, degrease the gluing points with acetone;
  7. Next, remove the protective film from the side guide and glue the upper edge under the cover of the control unit. You also need to do with the guide on the other side of the box;
  8. Lower the curtain with the control chain to the rubber seal and install the limiter;
  9. The next step is to install the control circuit locking device using self-tapping screws, put on and snap the box cover.

It is best to purchase custom-made roller blinds, so you save yourself the trouble of adjusting the curtains to fit your window.

After installation, it is necessary to check the working condition of the entire structure. These simple steps for installing one of the types of roller blinds will allow you to not only fix it correctly, but also extend the life of the curtains.

How to assemble roller blinds: according to instructions or by intuition

The versatility of roller blinds gives a special uniqueness to the interior: subdued sunlight, comfortable room temperature create an atmosphere of comfort in the room. Many models of curtains and methods of their fastening have been developed, but the most popular are roll-cassette, which can be mounted not only on the window sash inside, but also outside.

When buying roller blinds, first of all, you should pay attention to the quality of the mechanisms and the fabric used.

The existing fastening features allow you to choose those models of curtains that, while remaining almost invisible, create an atmosphere of coziness and comfort in the room.

When assembling and installing roller blinds on a window, you should not blindly trust your intuition. In this case, extra fasteners may remain, and the curtain will soon cease to protect the room from the sun. Following the instructions step by step will save you time and nerves and will extend the life of the curtains. It is possible that when buying rolled curtains, you should simultaneously order not only curtains, but also their installation.

A roller blind is simply indispensable in a bedroom or nursery, as its mechanism is distinguished by the absence of extraneous noise. Silent operation of the mechanism of roller blinds is one of the main characteristics that the buyer pays attention to in the first place.

Sometimes ready-made roller blinds do not always fit the size of the window, in this case, before installing them, you should reduce their width.

When checking the system, even the slightest noise should alert you, signaling a defect in the design itself or violations during assembly.

The choice of installation of roller blinds directly depends on your needs. When buying, consider not only the comfort of mounting the system, but also the type of window.

Installation of mini-curtains roller with guide strings

Roller mini-blinds are an ideal option for "deaf" windows or with a tilt-and-turn opening mechanism, and are also used if you want to hide niches in the room from prying eyes. Installing a mini roller blind with guide strings will take a minimum of time if you first read the illustrated instructions in as much detail as possible.

As a rule, roller blinds are purchased for compact installation on individual window sashes.

Designs of mini-curtains are sold unassembled.

For this reason, not only assembly, but also the unpacking process requires care:

  • Before installation, check that all accessories are present;
  • If necessary, cut the curtain fabric and fasten it to the shaft;
  • Next, we thread the fishing line into the holes of the mounting corners, after tying the edge into a knot;
  • We do the same with the second edge;
  • After that, you need to cut the fishing line;
  • Carefully insert the plastic capsules into the edge of the shaft.

Now it remains only to snap the edges of the capsules of the mounting brackets and the roller blind is ready for operation.

Following the rules for installing roller blind designs will allow you to enjoy comfort in any room for longer.

The process of installing mini-blinds with guide strings is easy and does not differ much from other methods of attaching curtains to window sashes with a similar opening mechanism.

Specialization: master in the construction of plasterboard structures, finishing work and laying flooring. Installation of door and window blocks, facade finishing, installation of electrics, plumbing and heating - I can give detailed advice on all types of work.

Roller blinds have become widely used relatively recently, but have already gained immense popularity due to their attractiveness, functionality and ease of installation. In this review, I will tell you how to measure windows before buying products and how to fix them correctly. There is nothing complicated in the works, and almost anyone can handle them.

Overview of the main mounting options

It should be noted right away that roller blinds differ in their design and size, so they can be attached using different methods. I will talk about five of them, which are the most popular and used most often.

All of them are reliable and durable, so you need to choose the solution that best suits your needs and suits the design of windows in your house or apartment.

Option number 1 - location above the window opening

This method is suitable for products that are larger than the window opening. That is, you get a canvas that will cover the entire window completely, this option is good where you need to minimize the penetration of light into the room. What should be noted here:

  • If you need to limit the penetration of light into the room as much as possible, then the canvas should be at least 10-15 cm wider than the window opening. Options look good in which the roller blind is the same width as the window sill;
  • The length of the canvas depends on the design of the window sill, if it protrudes beyond the wall, then naturally the roller blind should not go beyond it. If the window sill is made flush with the wall, then the structure can be 10 cm longer for more reliable protection against light penetration;
  • Again, if you need designs that will simply limit the view, then the color can be anything. If you need to close the windows from the light, then choose dark options, they are much more effective.

Let's figure out how to install such roller blinds. For work, we need the following materials and tools:

Tools and materials Usage
Fast mounting dowels A standard size of 6x40 is enough, usually there are 4 fasteners per product, but with a large width, their number may be more, you need to look in advance at the diagram that comes with the product and deal with this nuance.

Often, fasteners are already included in the kit, but they are too flimsy and small, so unpack the product and look at the dowels - if they are very small and made of thin fragile plastic, then it is better to buy better products, especially since their price is low

Roulette and level To take all the necessary measurements, you can’t do without a tape measure, and in order to set the structure evenly, you need a level. Working by eye is not the best solution, very often later it turns out that the system is crooked, which spoils the whole result of the work
Perforator with drill In order to make holes, we need a power tool with a drill of the desired diameter and length. If you don't have one, you can rent it for an hour, it's inexpensive, but you don't have to buy expensive equipment for a few holes.
Screwdriver With its help, screws are screwed into the dowels and the roller blind box is fixed, most often cruciform versions PH2 or PZ2 are used.

Now let's figure out how to fix the structure with your own hands:

  • The roller blind must be wound on the drum, most often it is sold in this form. The structure must be attached to the wall and centered so that it is located exactly above the opening and the protrusions on both sides are the same. Also, do not forget to check the horizontal level and make marks for self-tapping screws (after removing the side plugs of the drum to open the mounting holes);
  • Drilling is done with a hammer drill. If you have a wooden wall, then you do not need to drill anything, you can simply screw the screws into the intended places.

If you have a drywall wall, then it is best to use Driva-type dowels for fastening, they are simply screwed into the wall and you get a finished hole into which the screw is screwed. In such a dowel, it is possible to ensure reliable fixation of the drum.

  • Then the screws are screwed in, the drum holder is attached to the surface and attached. Everything is simple here, and the main thing is to press the element well, you should not apply too much force, as the plastic may crack;
  • Then a shaft is installed on the rod with teeth, after which you need to put the curtain in the way it will be located in the open position, and snap the latch on the chain, which is located closer to the wall. After that, the curtain is lowered to its lower position, and the latch is placed on the outer chain. All the diagrams are on the instructions, so you will not get confused.

Option number 2 - location in the window opening

Another option in which the roller blind closes the entire window. It is only good for structures that do not open, as the system will interfere with the sashes, remember this. The mounting process is in many ways similar to the one described above, so I will focus only on those aspects that differ from mounting outside the opening:

  • You need to choose the optimal dimensions of the product, if everything is clear with the length, then you need to figure out the width. The fact is that the drum on which the canvas is fixed is always a little wider, so your roller blind should already have an opening of 4 centimeters - 2 on each side, do not miss this important nuance;
  • Fastening can be done either above the window frame, if you have space, or to the top of the opening, which is much more common. The work does not differ from the above, and the installation method depends on the type of base, it is important to align the position of the drum, if the opening is uneven, then it is better to place a plastic plate under the structure, skew will cause the system to work poorly;

  • Due to the different position of the roller blinds, you must make sure that the option you choose can be installed above the window, some modifications are only suitable for wall mounting.

Option number 3 - fixing to the window sash with self-tapping screws

This solution is the most common, as it has a number of advantages:

  • The design does not interfere with opening one or two window sashes;
  • You can open the curtain on one half, and leave the other closed;
  • There is a window decoration option when different canvases are used;

  • You can use both conventional options and designs with guides that allow you to fix the roller blind in the desired position and prevent it from hanging out. This option is especially good for skylights, which are located at an angle.

As for the choice of roller blinds for sashes, the general rules are simple:

  • Width should be approximately 4 cm more than glass width to cover 2 cm of frame on each side. This indicator may be higher if the design does not interfere, and it is undesirable to do less, since gaps may form along the edges;
  • The length is usually selected based on the height of the glass plus 6-8 centimeters, but again, deviations are acceptable if they do not affect the functionality and do not worsen the appearance of the structure.

Products are fastened according to the following algorithm:

  • First of all, you need to remove the plugs from the drum and position it so that the canvas protrudes the same distance on both sides of the glass;
  • Then you need to fix the cassette with four screws - two on each side. Some advise pre-drilling holes, but if you have special self-tapping screws, then you can do the work this way - plastic can be easily screwed in;

  • It is necessary to glue the guides, for this, the surface of the plastic is first degreased. Next, the protective layer is removed from the double-sided tape glued to the guides, they are inserted into the groove on the cassette and strongly pressed against the frame, make sure that the elements are located strictly vertically;

  • Next, you need to carefully stretch the canvas along the guides and straighten it, it should move smoothly and not warp;
  • Lower the roller blind to the lowest point and insert the latch on the inner chain. After that, you can put on the plugs and pull the canvas up to the top so that it protrudes by about 1 cm, and put the latch on the outer chain. Job completed successfully.

Option number 4 - gluing to the sash

We will figure out how to fix roller blinds on plastic windows without screwing screws into them. It does not always make sense to make holes, because if you decide to remove the structure, then holes will remain on the surface, which are unlikely to be repaired.

Therefore, I will talk about another mounting option that is simple and does not leave damage to the frame:

  • It is best to use Easy Fix fasteners, these are small pieces of very reliable double-sided tape. First you need to mark the position of the structure, after which you need to degrease the surface so that the fastening is more reliable;
  • Next, you need to attach the holders at the locations, the lower protective film is removed, and the element is pressed as tightly as possible to the surface;

  • The side clamps of the shaft are placed on the glued holders, after which the structure is assembled, and all the above steps are taken to set up the system. If necessary, guides are also glued.

To fix the curtain in the lower position, you can use a piece of Velcro, which is also glued to both the frame and the canvas.

I would like to note that I have had roller blinds installed in the same way for five years now, nothing has fallen off either on the blind or on the opening sash, so if someone says that this solution is unreliable, do not believe it.

Option number 5 - spring brackets for opening doors

We will figure out how to hang roller blinds on plastic windows without screws and gluing, this option is only suitable for opening parts, it is very simple to implement:

  • It is necessary to open the window sash on, and then put two brackets on the upper end of the frame that will hold the structure. The most important thing is to arrange them at the width you need;

  • A drum is inserted into the holder, after which all the necessary settings are made and, if necessary, guides are attached, which are glued, as in the cases described above;

  • After attaching, check how the window closes, if everything is fine, then you can use the construction as usual.

If you have a window with both a blind and an opening sash, then the choice of how to attach a roller blind to the part that does not open is up to you. I would recommend gluing, as it is both simple and reliable.

Conclusion

Mounting a roller blind is a simple process, especially if you are gluing a structure or using brackets, because no tool is needed to work.
