Textured stretch ceilings with embossed and patterned. Textured stretch ceilings: types and applications in room design

For any stretch ceiling canvas, not only the color or pattern, but also the texture is very important. Textured stretch ceilings can not only emphasize the overall interior composition of your room, but also favorably present its individual elements.

PVC and fabric canvases are currently represented by a large selection of textures. And it will not be difficult for you to choose the option for yourself. The main thing is to remember about the features of your room. In our article, we will talk about typical modern textures that are offered by various manufacturers of stretch ceilings, and consider their differences. And also we will study the possibilities of creating the texture of a stretch ceiling with our own hands using special paints.

What are the textures of stretch ceilings?

When choosing a stretch ceiling canvas for one of the rooms of your house, you pay attention not only to its color, pattern or photo printing quality, but also to its texture. After all, the general appearance of your beautiful stretch ceiling largely depends on it. Under the texture of a stretch ceiling, we will understand all the features of the surface of its canvas, except for the color that distinguish such a canvas from others. Modern manufacturers of stretch ceilings offer a number of textures that are very popular with customers, we will consider them in more detail.

Combinations of textures on your stretch ceiling

When creating modern interiors, designers are not limited to using only one texture. Even when decorating a stretch ceiling, a combination of textures is used that can give the room an unexpectedly unusual look.

We create the texture of a stretch ceiling with our own hands

Textured stretch ceilings are not the exclusive prerogative of fabric manufacturers. Modern technologies allow you to create the color and texture of your stretch ceiling with your own hands, without dismantling it. We are talking about textured paints for stretch ceilings. Of course, you can only paint fabric stretch ceilings. But if you are the proud owner of just such a ceiling, then this section is for you. Textured paint, unlike conventional water-based paint, has a special filler in its composition, which gives it density and allows you to create a certain texture when applied to the surface. As you know, the fabric canvas can be repainted several times. This means that you will be able to change its texture and color several times relatively cheaply.

In conclusion, we note that the texture of the stretch ceiling canvas is a very important element in the design of your room. Let's say more - a defining element. A textured stretch ceiling can visually expand the space of a room or, on the contrary, narrow it. Can drastically change the look of a room by changing the intensity of lighting or create other effects - experiment for yourself.

Photos of textured stretch ceilings

When choosing a canvas for a future ceiling, you are guided not only by such criteria as color, pattern, quality, but also by texture features. After all, they set the tone for the whole structure. By the word "texture" we mean any external characteristics of the canvas, except for color schemes. Modern manufacturers offer stretch ceilings with texture in different variations. Let's dwell on them in more detail.

There are three types of standard invoices:

  • Matte- a classic of stretch fabrics, a distinctive feature of which is the absence of relief images on the surface, smoothness and evenness. The main function of the matte canvas is to emphasize the beauty of the ceiling, highlighting the pattern or color depth.

  • satin the texture makes the ceilings expressive and attractive. Higher light reflectance than the first option saturates the colors of the coating. This is due to the overflow of shades under the influence of artificial or natural lighting.

  • Glossy has high reflective properties. This property allows you to visually expand the room, make it voluminous and bright.

Each texture is created on a specific type of material. For example, gloss is done only on a PVC film, while a matte structure can be applied to both fabric and film coatings. Satin surfaces should be classified as a separate category, since they are based on a fabric canvas impregnated with polyvinyl chloride.

Of particular interest are unusual textures. In this case, the basis of the ceiling is the original one with an intricate relief applied to the surface or stained using special marble, silk, suede, mother-of-pearl paints. At the same time, the front part of the canvas is not smooth, but textured, with an imitation of a pattern, or having a rough surface.

The advantages of a textured stretch ceiling are similar to those of conventional film sheets. These are durability, reliability, ease of use, no need for special care, moisture resistance.

What other textures can be on the ceilings

  • metallic- luxurious and original ceiling texture, giving the room severity and brutality. Best of all, such a design will fit into the hi-tech style, minimalism and other modern trends.
  • Silk on ceilings should be used in bedrooms and children's rooms. The subdued gloss of the surface will make the ceiling soft and cozy. Varying color shades will create a romantic atmosphere in the room.

On a note! Do not install dark silk fabrics, they visually make the ceilings heavier. But golden structural surfaces are ideal for decorating a bedroom in a classic style.

  • Marble exotic will organically fit into the living room or large hall. The material looks so natural that it looks like facing with marble slabs.
  • Pearl on the ceiling will make the room delicate, and its light shades will visually give it extra volume.
  • Nacre qualitatively imitates pearls on the ceilings, giving the room a certain luxury and nobility.

If you want to make a stretch ceiling with textures of different types, you should know how to properly combine individual options with each other:

  • The matte and glossy canvases in the kit visually represent something that cannot be translated into reality due to objective reasons. For example, the small height of the room.
  • Matte and metal ceilings in combination create an amazing effect when the room is transformed when rays from any light source hit the surface. At the same time, the metallic begins to shimmer, and the matte canvas does not change its color.
  • It is better to combine a matte and silk canvas as follows: make a base for a drawing from a silk coating, and frame an unusual “picture” with a matte one.

We make a textured ceiling with our own hands

The invoice component is determined by the following indicators:

  1. smoothness;
  2. relief;
  3. ability to reflect light.

The last two factors are of greatest importance.

Modern materials allow you to independently change the appearance of even such vulnerable, at first glance, coatings as. And there will be no need to spend big money on the transformation of the ceiling. Arm yourself with rollers, brushes, combs, paints and go to action!

Important! Not every stretch ceiling can be decorated with paints. For such works, natural fabrics are suitable. The texture on the PVC film is applied at the factory, so you can only purchase such a canvas from the manufacturer.

Due to the peculiarities of textured paints (thick and viscous), it is recommended to apply them only with a construction spatula.

By applying different shades, you can recreate the following images:

  • natural irregularities on the ceilings with a spatula;
  • chaotic comb stripes;
  • rough reliefs with washcloths or hard brushes;
  • original ornaments using special rollers for.

The ability to repeatedly repaint the fabric canvas will allow you to change the textures on the ceiling as often as you wish.

Don't be afraid to experiment! Use textured stretch ceilings to radically transform the interior of your home. The main thing is not to overload the overall composition and organically combine the ceiling decor with the overall style of the room.

Textured stretch ceilings - video

In this photoblog, I will describe the instructions on how to cheaply and cheerfully make a unique and original ceiling in a room. If you have an uneven ceiling, or the joints of the plates are visible, or some other defects, then it is impossible to remove them with ordinary painting or whitewashing. Therefore, you have several ways out of this situation:

  • Stretch ceiling
  • Adhesive ceiling (ceiling tiles)

I want to offer a more original solution - decorative plaster. Usually it is used for decorating walls and facades. But on the ceiling, it will also look good and will be able to remove many defects. I went for an even simpler way and did not buy decorative plaster (1300 rubles for 25 kg.), But replaced it with ordinary white putty (600 rubles for 25 kg.).

So, let's go directly to the instructions.

Work plan:

This is what the original ceiling looked like. Of the defects: the joints between the plates, the plates themselves are riddled with many holes and other small irregularities are visible.

The first step is to decide: is it worth removing the coating on the ceiling (chalk, water-based paint). I decided to leave. Ideally, it's best to remove it. But if you remove it, you should immediately understand that this is a rather troublesome task (especially removing chalk).

Ceiling priming

The first step is priming. I used a deep penetrating latex primer (3l - 120 rubles). It took about 10 liters of primer on the ceiling.

We apply primer to the ceiling. For these purposes, we need a foam roller (wide) and a paint container.

When the primer has dried (about 2 hours), we proceed to the main operation - applying putty to the ceiling. For this purpose, 20 kg of Vetonit LR + putty was purchased (5 kg for 160 rubles). You could buy a bag of 25 kg. It is cheaper, but it was not on sale at the time of purchase.

First of all, putty must be diluted with water. It is better to use a mixer to mix the solution. The mixture will be more homogeneous. Stir according to the instructions written on the putty package.

It is better to make putty a little thinner than it is done for its intended purpose. The desired consistency can be selected already in the process of applying putty. If it gets too thick, you can add a little more water to the mixture.

When the putty is ready, pour it into a convenient container. I used the same paint container.

Putty on the ceiling will be applied using a roller. Due to the use of the roller, the structure we need will be created.

During application, try not to press the roller too hard. After some time, the roller is heavily impregnated with putty, and the pattern becomes smeared. To prevent this from happening, the roller must be washed with water. After washing, it must be squeezed out to expel the water. It is also worth considering that the putty, although it retains mobility for a long time, I would advise breaking the preparation of the solution into several parts. For example, for my ceiling of 20m2, I broke the application of the solution into 2 parts. If you are an experienced fighter, then you can do everything at once.

As a result, we got such a beautiful and original ceiling for 1000 rubles.

Ceiling decoration has long been no longer limited to plastering and painting. These familiar options have been replaced by textured stretch ceilings, which are diverse in their types and characteristics. These are flat surfaces created by stretching a special fabric from various materials with a specific texture.

Peculiarities

Despite possible defects, the stretch ceiling helps to make the surface of the ceiling absolutely smooth. This type of construction is relevant for both residential and government, as well as public buildings. By itself, the stretch ceiling consists of a canvas and a mounting system that ensures its reliability. This design is fixed over the entire area of \u200b\u200bthe room. As a rule, the canvas is single or combined (mounted from separately welded parts).

To build the original "sky" of the room, it is not at all necessary to spend a lot of money - it is enough to adhere to the important indicators of the textured structure, which are the relief pattern and light reflection. It is thanks to them that volume is achieved.

The spaciousness of the room and a special atmosphere will help to create a well-thought-out frame, the right texture of fabric or film, as well as lighting.

The usual decor of stretch fabrics is wood, stone, painted in different colors of the coating, but other options are possible, which depend only on the strength of the designer's imagination. Even a simple single-level ceiling can be made unique if you choose the right color and texture. However, it is possible to combine seemingly incompatible things, in combination giving exactly the effect that is required.

Cloth for the ceiling can be fabric and polyvinyl chloride. In fact, there is a huge range of stretch fabrics for the ceiling: fabric, PVC, satin, matte, glossy, from which you can always choose the desired option.

In addition, they can be painted with your own hands, but this will require special dyes.

Varieties

The main materials for the production of stretch ceilings are PVC film and fabric. Based on this, textured ceilings are divided into 2 types.

  1. Seamless. Presented in the form of a thin fabric with a width of 510 cm, impregnated with special additives. Fabrics used for textured ceilings are elastic. In addition, they are moisture resistant thanks to a special varnish. The color is due to the corresponding polymer coating. This is the most durable option, because it has frost resistance, and in an emergency, the material is able to hold water of different temperatures. Moreover, seamless products belong to the class of safe, environmentally friendly products.
  2. Welded coatings (seam). Created from polyvinyl film with a width of 1.3 to 3.2 meters. Since they have a seam, they are placed at an angle of 90 degrees to the windows. They have their own advantages: they are not subject to combustion (only melted), the effects of aggressive chemistry. To avoid dust settling, such materials are treated with antistatic agents.

Polyvinyl chloride film is made using special equipment. This is an elastic product, which during installation is stretched onto the prepared frame when heated to 60-70 degrees. After cooling, such a ceiling stretches and becomes smooth and even. The main properties of stretch ceilings also include a long service life (30-40 years), a wide range of colors and textures, quick installation and easy maintenance.

When choosing a ceiling material, you should pay attention to its pattern, special qualities and, of course, the texture, on which the general appearance of the ceiling depends.

Features of materials for the ceiling structure

In addition to different colors, products for stretch ceilings have special surface properties that distinguish them from each other. Let's take a closer look at the most common of them.

  • Matte texture. The traditional, classic version, which in appearance is similar to a well-plastered coating. It is mainly used for straight planes. In any light, such a surface with a pattern and color is actually not subject to change. In this case, the material can be both smooth and embossed. Some prefer the presence of roughness, which makes such a ceiling more comfortable to see.

  • Glossy (lacquered) surface. Able to increase the amount of space. Used to create separate zones in the room, dark corners are smoothed out for this reason. These are, as a rule, reflective options with mirror properties. The glossy texture looks great both with a single-level and multi-level ceiling structure, it is well combined with a matte texture.
  • Satin material in terms of its reflective characteristics, it is somewhere between matte and glossy surfaces. When light hits such a canvas, it seems to shimmer, and the color becomes deeper and more saturated. In general, this texture is outwardly similar to a painted coating: it looks soft and silky, capable of creating an atmosphere of special comfort.

  • metallic- another type of canvas with a characteristic metallic sheen. The color depth of the coating changes as the angle and strength of the illumination change.

  • It is very original suede texture imitating the features of natural leather, its velvety and visually perceptible warmth. You can decorate the ceiling in the living room or bedroom with such a fabric: it will add a special charm and comfort to the atmosphere.

  • Stretch ceilings look interesting with marble texture made under natural marble slabs of different shades. This option is necessary when the room needs to give an atmosphere of luxury. The coating is more suitable for an interior in a classic style.

  • silk canvas creates a stable illusion of natural silk fabric. It has a soft, subdued sheen and is the ideal material for rooms with a sophisticated design.
  • When the task is to create a particularly pompous, chic look of the room, stretch ceilings are used mother-of-pearl coating texture emitting natural pearl light.

It is not necessary to choose only one texture: some of them are perfectly combined with each other and make it possible to create an exceptional ceiling design.

The most constructive combinations are a combination of a matte canvas with a metallic or a glossy and matte texture. In some cases, a matte frame can become a frame for a silk or suede fabric.

If you wish, you can create the desired texture of the stretch ceiling with your own hands. To do this, use special textured paints. Of course, only fabric canvases are subject to dyeing.

When choosing the color of a stretch ceiling, certain nuances should be taken into account:

  • whether it is suitable for this room;
  • interior style;
  • color of furniture and decorative elements;
  • the total area and height of the room.

Painting is carried out with acrylic dyes with a filler that gives a certain density to the solution and thereby contributes to the creation of not only color, but also the desired texture. For application, you can use a roller or spray gun.

The article discusses what textured ceiling paint is, presents its classification and types, advantages and disadvantages, describes how to choose the right material. In addition, you can get acquainted with the technology of textured painting of the ceiling.

The content of the article:

When it first appeared in the decorating industry, textured paints stunned many with their vibrant colors and original textured finishes. Technologically well-thought-out and simple invention immediately found its application. The interiors of apartments and facades of buildings have acquired a fresh face. Special fillers included in the composition of textured paints made it possible to imitate a variety of relief on the surface of stone, concrete and other structures, including ceilings.

Classification and types of textured paint

Textured paint is a protective decorative coating and differs in the type of its forming substance - silicate, silicone or acrylic. In addition, there is a conditional division of textured paints according to the size of their fillers:
  • Small - fraction up to 0.5 mm;
  • Medium - fraction 0.5-1.0 mm;
  • Large - fraction 1.0-2.0 mm.
Crushed gas silicate stone, marble chips, polymer fibers or quartz sand are used as fillers.

According to the decorative effect, textured ceiling paints can be divided into multi-color or luminescent, classic, as well as compositions, the aesthetic effect of which lies in the structure of the finished material.

Classic textured paints involve manual surface relief. These include a type of paint, which is called a plastic mass. Its consistency is much thicker than other types of similar materials. Therefore, such paint is indispensable for decorating overhanging horizontal surfaces, in our case, the ceiling.

The viscous structure of the material allows you to create a thick layer of paint on the ceiling plane, which can successfully hide its irregularities. With the help of a figured spatula, a deep relief can be created on the surface of the plastic mass. In addition, this material has thermal insulation properties, which are especially valuable for the ceilings of the upper floor of the building. The plastic mass can give a matte or glossy surface, it is moisture resistant, and is often used in the design of living rooms and bathrooms.

Mosaic paint is applied to the ceiling mechanized. Its name is associated with the coating effect obtained as a result of the use of this material. The composition of the mosaic paint includes microcapsules of pigments, the color of which has a special contrast in relation to the bulk of the solution. The mosaic effect can only be achieved with a spray gun. When the material is sprayed under pressure, the pigment capsules burst and form a pattern on the surface that resembles the structure of a granite stone. This coating is easy to clean and does not require the presence of a protective layer.

Commercially available textured paints do not need to be mixed. They allow you to get one relief with a specific color, for example, an imitation of snake skin or the effect of old cracked plaster.

Advantages and disadvantages of textured paints

In comparison with conventional paints and varnishes, textured paints have the following advantages:
  1. Textured coating does not require a long and laborious process of leveling the ceiling.
  2. The layer of paint makes the base homogeneous, hiding chips, any external cracks or indentations in the surface.
  3. The coating, made with textured paint, is resistant to mechanical stress on it.
  4. The price of materials is quite affordable, which is one of the reasons for their popularity in the production of finishing works.
  5. Textured paints are environmentally friendly, as they are made from natural materials.
  6. The material has low flammability and the ability to self-extinguish, which is especially valuable in housing construction.
  7. The color range of textured paints can only be limited by human imagination.
  8. The textured coating is easily repaired; from time to time it can be painted with any acrylic composition.
The main disadvantage of textured paints is too much consumption. For 1 m 2 of the treated surface, more than a kilogram of this material can go.

Ceiling decoration with textured compositions is not recommended for wooden houses. Seasonal shrinkage of a building can cause significant damage to a ceiling finished with such material. There may be cracks and shedding of the textured layer.

Features of the choice of textured paint for the ceiling

Many offers of existing types of textured paints make it difficult to choose them not only for beginners, but often for repair professionals. To facilitate this task, we suggest that you familiarize yourself with the highest quality and affordable textured paints:
  • Coral Galamix-72. Waterproof textured acrylic based paint. In its composition, it has a marble filler, which gives the applied coating a granular effect. The paint is breathable and UV resistant. Its average price in the market is 125 rubles/kg.
  • Alpina Expert. A very popular paint in the Russian market. Its versatility constantly attracts many buyers. Such textured paint can be used for exterior and interior work, while obtaining a high-quality protective layer. The cost of paint Alpina Expert - 110 rubles / kg.
  • Dune Galamix-72. Textured paint from a Russian manufacturer. It is used for painting ceilings, hiding them even significant defects. In addition, this material can be used for finishing rooms with high humidity. To buy textured ceiling paint Dune Galamix72, you need to pay 81 rubles / kg.
Usually, instructions for using the material are attached to textured paint by its manufacturer. If any additional questions arise when buying a finished composition, the answers to them can often be found on the manufacturer's website.

Pigment for textured paints is purchased separately. It comes in powder form or in the form of a ready-made composition, packed in a special syringe, which makes it convenient to dose the pigment when it is added to the paint.

Textured ceiling painting technology

Any type of textured paint is universal: it can be used to decorate both concrete or plaster surfaces and wooden ceilings with equal success. Work with textured paint is carried out at an air temperature of at least +7 degrees, at low temperatures the mixture thickens quickly, and it becomes impossible to apply it to the surface.

Preparing the ceiling for applying textured paint

Before applying the paint, it is necessary to perform work, which includes leveling and cleaning its surface, puttying and applying a primer.

Minor flaws in its surface will hide a layer of textured paint, and you will have to repair the joints of the concrete ceiling slabs yourself. On a flat plane, the textured painting of the ceiling looks very attractive, so its height differences require leveling with plaster or gypsum mortar.

The ceiling is cleaned from unnecessary old coatings using scrapers, brushes with metal bristles, rags and water. The work is painstaking, but necessary. Leveling the ceiling surface with a gypsum mixture is carried out using a wide spatula or trowel with a grater in case of plastering.

The final stage of preparing the ceiling is its primer. For it, a special paint-primer is used, which is included in the set of textured material and corresponds to it in color. The task of the primer is to ensure adhesion of the decorative paint layer and the base of the prepared ceiling.

Applying textured paint to the ceiling

The primer layer of the ceiling dries for at least 5 hours. After the end of this process, you can open the package with the textured basic composition and tint it with thorough mixing of the solution using a mixer.

Features of applying textured paint to the ceiling:

  1. Textured paint can be applied to the surface of the ceiling with a wide spatula, natural sponge, metal comb or structural roller. A wide range of such tools available for sale allows you to perform a textured drawing for every taste.
  2. You can create drawings and various patterns on a layer of paint not only with the help of special tools. For this process, improvised material is often used: cellophane, a ruler, a rope wrapping a roller, and even an ordinary comb.
  3. The finished solution of textured paint is applied to the surface of the ceiling gradually in squares. One or two of them are painted with a brush, and then these areas are processed with the right tool or improvised means to obtain the desired pattern.
  4. The paint should be applied in one layer, and you should not do this near an already dried area. Therefore, you need to paint everything without interruption, and create a coating structure on the go.
  5. Initially, textured paint is applied to the painting tool with a spatula. After that, a layer of paint is applied to the surface and distributed on it in a circular motion in different directions.
  6. Textured paint can be applied to the ceiling with a spatula 5-10 cm wide. In this case, the resulting surface structure will resemble a French impressionist canvas, and its volume will depend on the amount of paint applied.
  7. Another option is to apply paint with a metal comb. Due to its arrangement of teeth, the material leaves wavy stripes of a simple geometric shape on the surface of the ceiling.
  8. It has become a tradition to paint the ceiling with a textured roller. It allows you to qualitatively and quickly give the ceiling surface the desired structure. Before applying paint to the ceiling, the roller must be moistened with water.
  9. Using textured paint on the ceiling, you can create a coating with the effect of "flock", "moire spray" or "velvet". It is suitable for imitating the structure of stone and many other natural materials. However, these types of finishes require special equipment.

The coating created using mother-of-pearl textured paint looks great on the ceiling. It has the ability to change color, which is why it is often called chameleon paint. The color change of this paint occurs in accordance with the lighting of the ceiling and the angle of view, and its translucent structure is ensured by the presence of natural mother-of-pearl in the composition. Pearlescent paint fits well on plaster, wood panels and putty. The addition of glitter to this material gives the finished flooring a festive look.
