The caretaker profession is associated with many myths. Many are biased towards it, believing that citizens who have not been able to realize themselves in other areas of activity, as well as students and pensioners who want to increase their income, work in this specialty. However, one should not think superficially without understanding the nuances of the profession, since it is characterized by many forms and manifestations that differ in the specifics of duties and wages.

general information

The duties of a watchman involve maintaining the trusted object in the state in which it was transferred to the employee when he accepted the shift.

A feature of the profession is the mode of operation. The watchman can carry out activities both in the daytime and at night, and around the clock. Its main tasks are to maintain order in the entrusted territory, check the integrity of locks and seals, as well as prevent outsiders from entering the protected facility.

In the course of fulfilling the duties assigned by the employer, the employee can use all available means permitted by legal acts and rules of the business entity. The nuances of his activities depend on the policy of the enterprise for the benefit of which he works, and on the list of duties regulated by his head.

What is the nature of the profession

The profession of a watchman belongs to the category of dangerous specialties. It is worth noting that most of the shifts of the employee go smoothly, however, there is a possibility of intruders entering the protected facility. In such a situation, a person should be ready to take measures aimed at neutralizing the threat of harm to protected property or individuals. In the course of their implementation, the employee is exposed to the risk of physical damage.

Conditions for the work of a watchman at the enterprise

The work of a watchman is notable for the instability of the schedule. Shift activity is the cause of constant rearrangements of biorhythms either under daytime or nighttime sleep, which affects overall well-being.

Personal qualities

Despite the absence of difficulties in the performance of duties as a watchman, when hiring him, in order not to incur material damage, it is necessary to take into account certain parameters of personal qualities that an employee must have.

To be able to resist the intruders before the arrival of the police, he must be in excellent physical shape. An ordinary person without special training, subject to his physical development, will also cope with the assigned duties.

The employee should not have problems with the law, reflected in the presence of a criminal record. Before hiring an applicant for a job, the head of the enterprise is recommended to file a corresponding request with law enforcement agencies or require a certificate confirming the absence of police drives.

When hiring a person, the employer must take into account his marital status and endurance. This is due to the fact that the watchman will have to work at night and monitor the situation at the protected facility. He must easily rearrange his biorhythm so as not to sleep during the work shift, bypass the territory in time, control the state of the means of communication, fix violations and warn the responsible persons about the identified problematic circumstances.

Skills

The requirements for the skills of a watchman depend on the list of duties imputed to him by the employer. He must be able to communicate with people and know the basics of business etiquette. When organizing a video surveillance system by the head of a business entity, the watchman will have to learn how to work with the equipment. If the protected object is classified as strategically important, then the employee may be issued protective equipment, the characteristics and rules for handling which must be understood.

Working conditions of a watchman

The watchman must understand his responsibility for the disclosure of confidential information that became known to him in the performance of professional duties. Knowing the basics of the psychology of communicating with people and a few self-defense techniques will help him quickly neutralize the enemy. He must be able to provide first aid, call the fire department when a fire is detected, and, if necessary, be proficient in the basics of working on a computer.

The head of each enterprise should develop job descriptions for all employees, including the watchman.

The positions of the internal document for the enterprise, regulating the duties of employees, depend on the specifics of the activity of the business entity, on the type of material assets to be protected and on the conditions in which they are stored. It consists of several sections:

  1. The general part, which indicates information about the business entity, the requirements for the employee, his qualifications, the conditions for employment and the higher authorities who are subordinate to the specialist.
  2. Responsibilities.
  3. Responsibility, which indicates the measures applied to the employee in the event that he makes mistakes, expressed in non-compliance with the requirements reflected in the internal documentation of the enterprise.
  4. The rights of the employee, determining his privileges and benefits.
  5. Relationships, where information should be displayed about employees with whom the watchman has the right to contact in the course of work in order to report on his activities and notify of incidents.

The main duties of the watchman are to check the premises, bypass the territory or notify the control service. For each action of the employee, an action instruction should be developed. Their detailed description in the main instructions is allowed. Failure to comply with its requirements may result in liability. It can be expressed in the form of fines and the application of administrative penalties.

If the terms of the employment contract with the employee provide for his material liability, then in the event that the fact of dishonest performance of duties or their deliberate non-fulfillment is revealed, funds in the amount of the damage caused may be withheld from the caretaker.

Rights

Being at the workplace, the watchman has the right to sign documents, the content of which is of a reporting nature about the work done by him. The responsible person is obliged to accept from him a report on the work shift and on the events that were recorded during it.

The watchman submits information about the identified shortcomings in the activities of the organization, and also forms proposals for their elimination. To resolve work issues, he has the right to communicate with other employees of the business entity. Within the limits of his competence, he can make independent decisions, including on non-fulfillment of official duties in conditions of danger to the life and health of the employee.

When you can use force while on duty

The watchman has the right to request from the management the information that he needs for his work. He may require the creation of normal conditions for him to perform his functional duties, which include ensuring the storage of material assets and documents in accordance with the standards, as well as equipping the workplace, lighting and fencing the territory to be bypassed.

Caretaker at the enterprise
