How to paste over a plasterboard ceiling before painting. Painting a plasterboard ceiling - the choice of paint, painting rules

When choosing how to paint a plasterboard ceiling, the main thing is not to save on quality. Ceiling paints must be from trusted manufacturers and, most importantly, suitable for plasterboard surface finishing. Only in this case, you can be sure that at the final stage of finishing there will be no unsolvable problems.

How to choose paint for the ceiling from the plasterboard?

In fact, there is nothing difficult in painting a plasterboard ceiling with your own hands, when the right paint has been selected for the work. The main criteria - the coating must be combined with drywall sheets and correspond to the purpose of the room, taking into account the characteristics of the microclimate.

It has its own characteristics and technology for processing plasterboard ceilings. So, for example, it is important to carefully prime the surface before painting, treat it with putty mixtures and rub it to get a perfectly flat and smooth surface.

Water-based and water-dispersion paints are considered suitable options for plasterboard ceilings. It is strictly forbidden to use oil-based formulations.

Water-based plasterboard ceiling paint is available in a wide range of colors, easy to use, practical and reliable, suitable for finishing ceilings in the hall, bedroom, corridor.

Water-dispersion paints are more durable, protect the ceiling from moisture, retain color saturation even after many years of operation, mainly available in white. The compositions are ideal for finishing surfaces in rooms with an unstable microclimate, such as kitchens or bathrooms. Water-dispersion paints have some features:

  • require a minimum of drying time;
  • practically odorless;
  • safe;
  • they are simply updated due to the ability to form a strong film on the surface of the ceiling.

Water-based paint is also produced for plasterboard ceilings of the following types:

  • silicone;
  • silicate in mineral composition;
  • acrylic with latex.

Silicone compositions by properties are a mix of silicate and acrylic paints. The mixture is elastic, excellent for processing uneven surfaces due to its ability to bridge cracks with a thickness of up to 2 mm.

The ceiling treated with paint exhibits water-repellent properties, so it is worth considering this option for finishing surfaces in rooms with a high level of humidity: kitchens and bathrooms. Silicone coating is resistant to dirt, fungus and mold, does not require special care.

For ceilings in rooms with high humidity and temperature changes, the best paint is silicate with a mineral composition. The composition reliably protects the surface of the ceiling not only from moisture and dirt, but also from microorganisms, does not require additional use of antiseptic agents.

Acrylic paints come in both latex-based and pure acrylic. The first option is more expensive than other formulations, partly due to increased resistance to dirt, vapor permeability and simple maintenance. With the help of paint with latex, it is possible to cover cracks with a thickness of up to 1 mm.

Just acrylic mixtures are also wear-resistant, suitable for interior decoration of any type of purpose.

Based on information about the main types of mixtures for GKL, you can decide which paint to choose for finishing. All of the listed options are presented in different colors and shades and need to be applied according to the application technology, according to the instructions. As a standard, for finishing a plasterboard structure, three layers of the mixture are applied with domestic paints, and two layers of a foreign one, waiting for the previous one to dry.

Matte or glossy - what's the difference?

When choosing which paint to paint a plasterboard ceiling, you need to pay attention not only to the manufacturer, colors or type of mixture. It is worth considering the degree of gloss of the coating. Two basic blends are available: glossy and matte. There are also so-called intermediate options: semi-gloss and semi-gloss.

Traditionally, glossy paint with resistance to dirt, requiring simple maintenance, is selected for finishing GKL. The ceiling, painted with such mixtures, seems perfectly even and smooth, it is easy to wash and update it over time.

But painting the plasterboard ceiling with matte paint opens up more opportunities for experimenting with design transformations of the room. The coating allows you to visually "raise" the ceiling, make the room spacious, giving it a finished harmonious look.

Just like a glossy, matte mixture helps to hide surface defects. In terms of maintenance, matte painted plasterboard ceilings are more difficult to clean and do not retain their appearance as perfectly during operation as glossy ones.

Matte paint on plasterboard ceiling

Wanting to combine the positive qualities of both composition options, it is worth taking a closer look at semi-gloss and semi-gloss paints.

Quite often, painting a two-level ceiling is done using enamel. A coating of this kind dries quickly, does not deform under the influence of moisture, is practical and aesthetic. Of the minuses, the high cost of enamel is distinguished with a fairly high percentage of consumption per 1 square meter of surface.

Preparation for staining: materials and tools

As soon as you manage to decide on the choice of paint for finishing the ceiling, you can proceed to the preparation of the necessary materials and tools. To carry out the work you will need:

  • dye;
  • construction mixer for kneading;
  • mixing container;
  • spray gun or roller;
  • brushes of different widths;
  • goggles, gloves.

With a ready-made set of tools and materials, they begin to prepare the surface of the ceiling. In the case of drywall sheets, this is not difficult to do. The main task is to seal seams and cracks, priming and puttying the surface in several layers, followed by grinding to obtain an ideal result.

Immediately before painting, the ceiling is re-primed for better adhesion, as well as in order to avoid the appearance of cracks and stains on drywall sheets with the ability to absorb moisture. It is important to apply each subsequent layer of the mixture (primer or filler) on a completely dry surface.

How to properly apply paint to a surface: an algorithm

Regardless of the type of coating chosen, it is necessary to paint the ceiling in several layers - this is a mandatory requirement. Two or even three layers will allow you to achieve the effect of a uniformly painted surface without bald spots and color differences. Painting work is carried out according to the following scheme:

  1. The paint is mixed with a construction mixer or a drill with a nozzle, diluted with water if necessary.
  2. Prepare a brush, it is better to choose with a width of up to 80 mm. With its help, the initial painting of the plasterboard ceiling with water-based paint is carried out around the perimeter of the room in the areas where the walls adjoin the ceiling. This is necessary for the convenience of working with a roller in the future.
  3. The paint is added to the paint tray, using a roller, the composition is evenly distributed over the surface of the ceiling in the direction opposite to the window.
  4. After the first layer of paint has dried, a second one is applied perpendicular to the first.

Compliance with simple rules for performing painting work will allow you to paint the ceiling correctly, even for those who do it for the first time. Experts recommend:

  • paint a surface with an area of more than 40 meters with square stripes with a working width of up to 80 cm;
  • do not touch with a roller areas where the paint begins to dry;
  • start each new layer with finishing the joints of the walls and ceiling along the perimeter.

You can evaluate the result of the work carried out already a few hours after the last layer has dried. For this, a flashlight or a portable lamp is suitable. Illuminating the surface at an angle, you can see even minor flaws. Especially obvious ones will require correction with localization and repainting of the surface in problem areas.

Choosing the color of the ceiling - what is dictated by?

Understanding how to choose a paint for finishing the ceiling and what the algorithm for applying it should be, it remains to decide what color to paint the surface in so that you do not regret the decision for several years later. The choice of color should first of all be dictated by the purpose of the room, the features of its design and the personal preferences of the owner. Keep in mind that colors have a direct impact on a person's mood.

So, for example, a bright red color for a bedroom is not the best solution. In a room where you need to achieve a state of peace and comfort, it will become an annoying factor.

However, the main rule of modern design is finishing without clichés. Therefore, if the red ceiling is what the owner of the bedroom has long dreamed of, then the designer's task is to beat it in such a way that the functionality and style of the room only benefit from it.

Classic colors - based on a palette of bed tones. White, beige, gray, light brown ceilings are always relevant and, importantly, fit almost any interior design. In an effort to exclusivity, you can experiment with poisonous colors, combining them with calmer shades if possible, placing accents correctly.

The thematic video selection below will help you choose interesting options for ideas for painting modern plasterboard ceilings, both simple single-level and based on several tiers.

Drywall has recently become one of the most popular finishing materials. So, it is useful to study certain nuances regarding this coverage. This article will consider painting the ceiling of drywall.

Choosing a paint

Modern technologies offer consumers a huge amount of a wide variety of paints and varnishes. Consumers have the opportunity to choose, taking into account their preferences and the desired repair budget.

So, painting plasterboard ceilings can be done with the following materials:

  • alkyd enamel paints;
  • water-based compositions;
  • waterborne paints.

For reference:

  • Water-based paint consists of two liquids. In it, the oil is diluted in water in the form of tiny particles, while not completely dissolved.
  • Water-dispersion paint is a suspension of hymens, various fillers and special additives, which are dissolved in a dispersion of aqueous polymers.

It should be understood that for plasterboard ceilings, painting has its own characteristics. So, you need to make a choice of coloring matter, taking into account several factors. So, you should know that matte paint hides surface defects, and glossy, on the contrary, accentuates them.

In the absence of a stepladder, you can simply lengthen the roller

Nevertheless, the most optimal option, according to experts, is water-based paint. With its help, not only the painting of the plasterboard ceiling, but also the walls can be carried out. Therefore, this article will focus on the use of this type of paint.

Before you paint a drywall ceiling, you need to dilute the paint. First you should read the instructions on the plastic jar and find out the required flow rate. In most cases, it is required to add 5-10% water to the paint.

Preparatory operations

Having chosen and diluted the paint, it is necessary to make some preparatory manipulations.

  • Before painting the plasterboard ceiling, it is necessary to putty all the seams resulting from the laying of sheets. Only when the putty layer is completely dry, you can proceed to the following operations.
  • Next, you need to wipe the surface with some kind of abrasive material.. You can use fine sandpaper. This procedure is mandatory, since it is possible to properly paint a plasterboard ceiling only when the surface becomes perfectly smooth.

Tip: if you are a real putty ace, you can probably do this operation so well that sanding is not required. If you do not have such skills, then do not neglect this procedure.

  • Please note that special electric graters are sold today, which greatly speed up the work. However, experienced professionals do not trust these devices too much. In their opinion, the preparation of a plasterboard ceiling for painting should be done manually.
  • Remember to wear goggles and a respirator while sanding.. Remember that substances that will fall from the ceiling can be harmful to health.
  • At the end of this stage, you can find that a lot of dust has formed on the ceiling. It must be removed with a brush. After that, the surface is carefully primed.

When the drywall is ready for painting, you can proceed to the next steps. First, you should familiarize yourself with three very important painting rules.

Three important nuances

In order for the painting of the plasterboard ceiling to give a beautiful and stable result, it is necessary to apply the coloring matter evenly

  • Under no circumstances should the painting process be interrupted. This, with a high degree of probability, will break the pattern. The result will be an unevenly colored coating, which will significantly worsen the appearance of the ceiling.
  • Remember that each brush or roller has its own unique "pattern", a decorative layer. And so the change of tool, in any case, will affect the final result. It is highly recommended not to change the tool.

Tip: If you are using a brush, then paint with one specific side. This is due to the fact that different sides of the same brush can have different decorative layers.

  • It is strictly forbidden to return to the painted area of the surface, which began to dry out. This will jeopardize the uniformity of the paint application, and after drying, a noticeable stain will appear.

Let's start painting

Painting plasterboard ceilings should be done in the following sequence:

  • First of all, you need to paint the corner areas in the room. To perform this procedure, you can use a small brush. You need to paint over the entire perimeter, keeping an indent of 3-5 cm (it is needed for a kind of insurance against possible contact with the wall).

  • Next, you need to use the roller by dipping it into the paint tank. It is necessary to do this in such a way that the roller is completely covered with paint, and not partially. If any points are not clear, you can watch the training video at the end of this article.
  • For the most even distribution of paint on the roller, roll it out in the “bath” or mesh designed for this. This operation should be repeated regularly during the painting process. Otherwise, the final pattern may be uneven.
  • Paint should be as careful as possible to prevent paint splashes. Movements must be uniform and smooth, otherwise stripes may appear that are almost impossible to remove.

It is better to stock up on several types of brushes

You can apply a new layer only after the previous one has completely dried! It is better to stock up on several types of brushes.

Conclusion

In this article, it was described in detail how to properly paint a plasterboard ceiling. It is safe to say that this operation is not difficult even for an inexperienced person. The main thing is to do everything as carefully and carefully as possible.

When repairing the ceiling surface, many owners of apartments or houses opt for suspended plasterboard structures. Painting a plasterboard ceiling is a relatively inexpensive finishing method that allows you to achieve perfect smoothness and evenness of the ceiling space, install interesting lighting, zone the room, and also perform many other functions. You can give a finished look to the system if you paint the plasterboard ceilings in a shade suitable for the interior and style.

Master paints plasterboard ceiling

Not only the appearance of the ceiling finish, but also its service life will depend on the correctly chosen paint. Therefore, the compositions used for painting the ceiling should:

  • not be afraid of moisture and light mechanical damage;
  • dry quickly;
  • have elasticity after drying;
  • do not emit a strong odor, do not pose a health hazard.

The choice of suitable paint is also affected by its cost. Therefore, you do not need to save and buy too cheap dyes. They will not last long, and after a short period of time you will again have to undertake repairs.

interior paint

Before starting painting work, it is necessary to study the main characteristics and features of the composition, read the instructions for its application.

Manufacturers offer the following types of paints for plasterboard ceilings:

  • water emulsion. It has increased resistance to abrasion, is easy to use, easy to apply, dries quickly, it can be used for finishing ceilings in different rooms. Surfaces painted with a water-based emulsion may be washed;
  • latex. They are the most expensive, but the ceiling painted with such compositions acquires evenness, resistance to pollution, and becomes vapor-tight. It is easy to care for, it can be washed with plain water or with the addition of a non-aggressive detergent. An added benefit is that the latex paint will hide small cracks and scratches in the false ceiling. Two layers are enough for the ceiling surface to acquire the perfect appearance;
  • acrylic. They are easy to work with, they are inexpensive, they are resistant to abrasion;
  • silicate compounds most suitable for rooms with high humidity. Another feature of such paints is antiseptic properties. The ceiling painted with silicate paint is not afraid of moisture and mold;
  • silicone paint combines the properties of acrylic and silicate compounds. Due to the elasticity of the silicone that forms its basis, this paint masks cracks in the ceiling up to 2 mm wide. The water resistance of the coating allows it to be used in bathrooms, kitchens. After the surface dries, a protective film forms on it, which is not afraid of pollution and does not need additional treatment with antiseptics.

Gluing fiberglass to the ceiling

It will improve the adhesive properties of finishing materials, prevent the coating from crumbling and stretching. At the end, the ceiling is covered with a layer of finishing putty, sanded and primed again. Such preparation of the base will give the best results, the ceiling will be perfectly smooth and even.

Before decorating plasterboard ceiling surfaces, you will need to prepare tools for painting:

  • high-quality fur roller;
  • brushes of suitable size;
  • container for the coloring composition.

If you want to give a different shade to the ceiling, get a color scheme of the desired color.

Painting ceilings with a roller

Painting plasterboard ceilings is carried out in the following sequence:

  • First, the coloring composition is prepared. To do this, open a jar with the selected paint and stir the mixture with a construction mixer, after which pour the paint into the prepared container;
  • paint the corners of the drywall construction with a paint brush.

Important! With a brush, do not work in the “back and forth” directions, but apply the paint with poking movements, then it will be possible to reliably cover all the depressions and depressions with the composition, as well as avoid streaks and ugly stripes.

  • after you finish with the corners, take a fur roller, dip it in paint. It is better to refuse foam rollers, as they leave air bubbles;
  • plasterboard ceiling painting technology involves the application of at least two layers of the coloring composition. The first layer is applied with a roller parallel to the window openings. Try to work in only one direction, then you will be able to get an even and uniform coating;
  • Wait until the first one is completely dry before applying the second layer. Apply the second layer of paint to the surface perpendicular to the previous one.

Attention! Periodically check the quality of the work performed. To do this, go down to the floor and look at the ceiling from a different angle. At an angle, all flaws will be more noticeable.

To prevent paint from staining surfaces that will not be painted, they should be covered with plastic wrap or cloth.

Furniture covered with plastic wrap

If you need to ensure perfectly even color transitions from one to another, use masking tape. Stick it on the ceiling. Thus, you will be able to form the desired line.

In the case when it is required to reproduce an irregular geometric pattern, floral ornament or any other image on plasterboard ceilings, these elements are first created on paper or stencils, and then transferred to the ceiling surface. Next, they wait for the drawings to dry, cover them with a film, then paint over the rest of the suspended structure.

You can paint a plasterboard ceiling in three layers. Then the third layer is applied perpendicular to the second.

Painting drywall ceilings is not a difficult process that even a beginner can handle. Most importantly, act carefully and carefully. Before you start painting, read the following tips:

  • to save time when painting ceilings, you can do the work with a spray gun;
  • do not try to achieve faster drying of the paint yourself. This will only worsen the quality of the work. It is better to close the room to eliminate drafts, turn off the heating and ventilation systems;
  • if when deciding how to paint plasterboard ceilings, you preferred a roller, choose a fur tool with a small pile;
  • paint the ceilings in strips of about one meter, then it will be possible to avoid ugly joints and drops. At the same time, overlap the previous one by 10 cm with the next strip;
  • if the ceiling is painted in two coats, after the first coat has dried, wipe the surface with a clean, damp cloth.

If for some reason you did not like the result of the work, or did not like the chosen shade, you can correct the situation by washing off the fresh finish with a soapy solution. After that, let the ceiling surface dry, apply a coat of primer and start painting again.

Plasterboard finishing of residential premises is very common and practically inseparable from the concept of renovation. In order for the appearance of the surfaces finished with drywall to take on a finished and aesthetic appearance, its finishing is required. Various methods are used for this: wallpapering, varnishing, tiling, applying paint compositions, etc. In this article we want to talk about how you can paint drywall what paints or enamels are suitable for this and what tools you will need.

To begin with, we note that in order for the painted surface to turn out perfect, it is necessary to carry out a number of preliminary works to prepare the plasterboard surface.

So first you need to putty the seams, the places where the drywall is attached to the screws and the corners of the drywall construction. This is done using various types of starting putties. To align the corners, special perforated corners are used.

The next step is to finish the drywall surface. This is done with a finishing putty. It is applied to the entire surface of drywall with a thin layer, and after drying, it is carefully rubbed with sandpaper.

The result should be a very smooth surface.

If you do not perform this type of work with sufficient quality, you should not take on painting at all. A painted surface will never be beautiful and you will have to redo everything - for example, paste wallpaper on top.

Before applying paint to the surface, apply a primer. This is necessary so that the paint adheres well to the surface of the wall and does not lag behind during operation.

So, all the defects of the wall surface have been eliminated and it is possible to determine with what composition we will paint.

How to paint drywall

The choice of the type of drywall composition to be painted is not difficult.

With proper preliminary preparation for painting a drywall surface, any paint or enamel is suitable for painting. There are no contraindications. Everything will depend only on your preferences, knowledge in the field of paints and their application, as well as how much money you can spend on paint. Drywall can be painted with any tool: brush, roller or spray gun.

Used for painting drywall three types of colors:

1. Water-based paints

Firstly, she has many positive qualities demanded by consumers. So, the surface painted with water-based paint has a pleasant velvety, matte surface.

It is also worth noting an unlimited number of colors of this material. When using these paints, it should be remembered that they brighten by several tones during the drying process.

In general, water-based paint is produced in white, and the color scheme is given to it using various colors sold separately.

Accordingly, you can create any color or shade. When adding color, remember that its content should not exceed 5%. The positive qualities of these paints include the ease of application, as well as the fact that it is easily washed off, and no special liquids and solvents are required.

Two disadvantages of this composition should be noted:

Water-based paint has a significant consumption compared to others and this paint is not suitable for painting walls in rooms with high humidity.

oil paints

These paints are suitable for any room. They fit well on drywall, resulting in a durable, glossy surface. Oil paint coatings are extremely resistant to moisture and corrosive environments.

They are also very cost effective. Of the minuses of oil paints, it should be noted that they contain many chemical components dangerous to humans.

Painting drywall with these compositions is possible only in well-ventilated rooms.

3. Enamels

These types of materials for painting drywall are also great. Enamels after drying create a beautiful smooth and durable wall surface. Of the pluses, it is worth noting a wide variety of colors, as well as shades. Enamels can be selected both glossy and matte. After the enamel dries, we get a durable, moisture-resistant film.

Like oil paints, enamels have a low consumption per unit area. Compared to oil paints, enamels dry faster.

Methods for painting plasterboard ceilings

Ceiling finish with plasterboard allows the interior to become unusually attractive and unusual. But without further processing or painting, even the most original ceiling will look unsettled. The methods used to paint drywall ceilings are a little different from painting wood or concrete, so don't be quick to color without getting familiar with them. Only the right painting will make your ceiling flawless, and you will learn all the nuances and secrets of this process in this article.

What colors are suitable for drywall

The finishing materials market now offers a huge selection of colored materials, but not all of them are suitable for materials such as dry cleaning.

You can use these colors:

  • alkyd enamel;
  • dispersible water;
  • water emulsion;
  • acrylic;
  • silicate or silicon.

However, oil paint cannot be processed in dry walls. All types of dyes listed are grouped completely with gypsum board, but water-based paint is the most popular in this regard.

It is easy to apply, dry quickly, cover the ceiling in a flat thick layer and maintain it well.

Another important shade: For drywall tops, you should choose a matte color in lighter shades. Firstly, matte colors perfectly hide small irregularities in the ceiling, while glossy color only emphasizes any bulge or lameness, even the most discreet one.

Secondly, bright colors make the room more spacious, add comfort and lightness. So, if you have already decided what color the plasterboard ceiling will be, you can go to the next level.

Ceiling preparation

After plastering the plasterboard structures on the ceiling, the entire surface must be suitably prepared for painting.

Often on such ceilings, it is between the parts that are processed by the whales, and then they are immediately painted. The consequence of this is that a white line appears through the color, giving the ceiling a very subtle appearance. So don't do it.

If you want a high quality image, first check the entire ceiling for bumps, scratches, bumps, or other imperfections. All this must be carefully sealed by whales. After the coated areas have dried, the entire surface must be well coated. Preparation is necessary, and in case the drywall is completely flat and you have not found any mistakes.

This is necessary for uniform color absorption. Raw gypsum cards absorb dyes differently and then on the ceiling.

After applying the powder, you should wait for complete drying.

And now you can start painting the drywall ceiling.

Proper ceiling image technology

High-quality visualization requires care and compliance with technology. First of all, you must prepare everything that you may need in your work:

  • Colour;
  • colored bath;
  • reliable ladder;
  • more brushes of different widths;
  • small image tray;
  • atomizer or cylinder;
  • work gloves.

If the color is too large, it should be diluted according to the instructions.

The choice of white color for the ceiling, only the color of the color, but if you want to be the color of the ceiling, you need to add the color of the color you want. Mixing is necessary until the paint is completely homogeneous, otherwise ugly spots will remain on the surface. In addition, the color is also recommended for filtering to get rid of possible lumps. It often happens that films appear on the screen. Then you cannot mix the contents of the glass: the film will break into small pieces that will remain on the ceiling and hopelessly condemn the whole appearance.

Plasterboard ceiling painting

When you're done, continue using the first layer.

Please note that the beginning of this process cannot be interrupted: irregular drying will create unwanted patterns on the ceiling.

How to properly apply drywall drywall

In addition, you cannot change the cylinder while you work or replace it with a brush, otherwise all this will noticeably affect the finished surface, and the ceiling will be painted. For the same reason, you cannot return to painted areas. Each layer is uniform, in one direction, with one tool.

Starts painting the drywall ceiling with a small brush from the corners of the areas.

Go to the periphery, draw them in these areas, and then lower it again with a small roller to the periphery and remove a few centimeters. Now when you're painting the big roller or spray gun, don't hit the wall.

The cylinder is evenly soaked in paint, so don't be afraid to completely submerge it in color, as any excess can be cleaned up in a color bath.

Pull the cylinder into the tray, start painting the ceiling even in parallel stripes. The width of these belts can be from fifty centimeters to one meter and avoid the formation of joints between them, one strip should pass to another about ten centimeters.

After painting the entire surface, allow the color to dry. Thus, during drying, the dust does not sit on the ceiling, the space must be tightly closed. Also, make sure that there is no cylinder villa on the surface to be painted. All this can slightly damage the appearance of the ceiling.

The next layer is also used. But the direction of the stripes should be perpendicular to the previous layer. Thus, it is possible to completely draw the drywall ceiling. If you need a third layer, it is used in the same way.

As you can see, the rendering process does not contain any specific problems, the main thing is to follow the recommendations.

If some points are not entirely clear, a video about the color of the plasterboard ceiling will help you understand the details. Even the most difficult gypsum board ceilings to build can be painted independently and with high quality. Remember safety while working - the ladder must be strong, stable and reliable.

A properly painted ceiling will ask you for a long, seamless and attractive appearance, creating a pleasant atmosphere in the room.

Along with this material, it also reads:

How to paint the ceiling and walls

In order to evenly paint the ceiling and walls, you need special paint and rollers.

First, choose a paint. The paint must be for walls and ceilings, paint that is only for ceilings - often stains (like whitewash) and is of poor quality. Types of paints are either acrylic paint or water-based paint.

There is no difference in these colors at work.

The paint should be liquid like (for example) kefir. If the paint is thick, it should be loosened with water using a drill and a construction mixer. Also, before painting, it must be shaken with a construction mixer, because. the paint has sagged and there is sediment at the bottom. Mixing by hand (with chopsticks, etc.) will not work, because you will not be able to mix the paint well and make it homogeneous.

It is better to use a velor roller with a pile of up to 6 mm.

Only such a roller is able to apply paint evenly, without smudges and other defects.

Foam rollers and rollers with a fur coat are not suitable for painting wallpaper.

In the bath (tray), for paint, pour a little paint and, having dipped the roller there, roll it on the ribbed surface of the bath so that the paint, on the roller, lies completely and excess paint is removed from it.

The first layer of paint, on the ceiling, is applied parallel to the window, and the second layer is perpendicular to the window.
The walls are painted from top to bottom, also 2 layers.

How to paint a plasterboard ceiling: a step by step guide

The 2nd layer is painted after the 1st layer has completely dried.

Although wallpaper manufacturers allow you to repaint wallpapers up to 15 times, I would not recommend doing this more than 10 times. Moreover, if for the first painting of the wallpaper it is enough to apply 2 layers of paint, then then it will be necessary to apply 3-4 layers. This is due to the fact that from 2 layers you will not repaint the wallpaper in a new color, unless the old color is very similar to the new one.

Painting walls or ceilings in two colors

Painting walls or ceilings in two or more colors is a painstaking process that requires the utmost care and attention.

And so, when your walls are ready for painting (puttying and priming), we proceed to marking the surface for painting in two or more colors. Draw with a pencil the necessary areas of painting.

The pencil should not be too soft and leave a trace that is not too greasy, this is necessary so that it can be painted over.

Carefully, along the line of the pencil, glue the adhesive tape on one side. This is necessary so that the paint of one color does not accidentally fall on the surface intended for another color, as well as to obtain a clear boundary between the two colors of paints. The adhesive tape should not be very sticky, otherwise you will remove it with a layer of paint or putty that will stick to it, the best adhesive tape that is used for auto-airbrushing is expensive (400 rubles), but it sticks perfectly and is removed, this is important when You glue it on a painted surface.

Then paint the glued surface.

If you are using ordinary masking tape, then it is not advisable to leave it for more than 2 hours to the glued surface, otherwise it may damage the glued surface of the wall or ceiling when torn off.

Then, also carefully and accurately, along the painted border, stick the adhesive tape on the painted surface and paint again.

Sometimes it happens that you removed the adhesive tape, and there, in several places, there is not a clearly even line, somewhere it was poorly painted over or there was an influx on another paint. Take a small (artistic) brush, something even and thin (for example: a clerical knife blade or a spatula) and gently tint, pressing the blade tightly along the border of two colors of paints.

Video painting walls in two colors

Colors are divided into three groups - warm, cold and neutral. The first group includes yellow, red, orange, the second - blue, cyan, purple, green, the third - black, white and gray.

The walls of rooms oriented to the north are best painted in warm and light colors. Then they will reflect more light, creating a feeling of the presence of the sun. Cold colors are suitable for southern rooms. For example, make a long narrow room visually wider.

To do this, paint the end walls in a warm color, and the longitudinal walls in a cold one. Or push the boundaries of a cramped room by painting the walls in beige, white, light gray, yellow. It is also necessary to take into account the influence of color on a person and choose it depending on the purpose of the room.

So, white creates a feeling of spaciousness and “air”, red activates, cheers up, but with prolonged exposure it irritates and reduces performance. Blue gives the impression of spaciousness and freshness, calms, increases concentration. Green calms, and orange warms, uplifting.

Yellow tones, has a positive effect on the nervous system. Purple relaxes and relieves stress.

That's all, paint your walls to your taste, but do not forget about the tips read above.

One of the common and popular, as well as economical ways to give freshness and renewal to the room is to paint the ceiling in some rich and fresh color. In addition, in connection with the development of paints and varnishes, many people use the technique of artistic painting on the ceiling.

  1. Preparing the ceiling for painting
  2. Leveling the ceiling before painting
  3. Ceiling surface priming

However, in order to implement such an idea, it will take a lot of effort. This article describes how to properly prepare the ceiling surface for painting, how to eliminate surface defects, and how to treat the surface with a primer.

Preparing the ceiling for painting

The stage of preparing the ceiling surface for painting.

The first priority at this stage is the removal of all things from the premises. This is necessary in order to have access to any corner of the ceiling. In addition, you need to cover the floor surface with some kind of protective material.

How to paint the ceiling yourself?

As a rule, a newspaper is laid on the floor for this purpose.

How to do the painting of the plasterboard ceiling with your own hands?

This is necessary so that in the event of paint dripping from the ceiling, a chaotic spot does not form on the floor. Otherwise, you will need to do more repairs and flooring.

Red plain painted ceiling

After completing the above work, you can begin to clean the surface from dirt, dust, as well as the old finish.

In the event that paint has already been applied to the ceiling, then it is removed with a building hair dryer. If the ceiling was whitewashed, then a bucket, a rag and water will be needed to remove the whitewash.

Leveling the ceiling before painting

The stage of eliminating defects and leveling the ceiling.

Having completed the preparatory work and removed the old finishing layer, it is necessary to begin to eliminate defects in the ceiling and level it.

Using a spatula, you need to clean all the bulges of the ceiling. After that, it is necessary to knead a portion of the putty and hide all the chips and cracks on the ceiling surface.

Do-it-yourself ceiling painting

In the event that the ceiling is skewed up to one centimeter, then using the building level, a layer of plaster is applied over the entire ceiling area.

Thus, the ceiling is leveled and put in order before painting. It should be noted that after applying a layer of plaster, it needs time to solidify. As a rule, two days for solidification is enough.

Painting ceilings with paint

Ceiling surface priming

The stage of applying the primer mixture.

After the plaster has hardened, a layer of primer must be applied to the ceiling surface. The primer is necessary for a stronger adhesion of paints and varnishes to the surface, as well as to reduce paint costs.

To do this, pour the primer from the eggplant into the prepared container and moisten a roller or brush with many fibers in it.

After that, the mixture is applied with sweeping movements to the entire surface of the ceiling. It is highly recommended to apply the mixture three or even four times.

How to paint a plasterboard ceiling?

If the installation and preparatory work has already been completed, then the last, no less important stage remains.

The right choice of coating for a plasterboard ceiling will not only ensure the decorativeness and aesthetics of its appearance, but also protect the structure, allowing you to change the decor of the room more than once.

How to paint a plasterboard ceiling?

Painting is considered the best option for the ratio of spectacular appearance, effort and price.

  • Oil.

    It is used in technical rooms with good ventilation, as the waterproof film of this coating retains moisture, acid fumes, etc.

  • Water dispersion. A variety of such paint is acrylic. Perfectly retains its appearance for a long time and allows wet cleaning.
  • silicate.

    Ideal for rooms with high humidity. Does not require the addition of antiseptics.

  • Silicone. Prevents the development of fungus in high humidity.
  • Water emulsion. Such paint deservedly enjoys popularity, as it is easy to “lay down” on the surface and, thanks to a wide choice of color palette, does not require additional coloring.
  • Latex. Ideally hides small cracks and other minor defects.

Do not forget that the use of several colors of paint helps to focus attention on interior details or allows you to zone a room with a large area.

How to cover drywall on the ceiling?

There are no less options for ceiling coverings from HA than usual, and the ideal surface will allow you to spend much less effort on finishing.

It should be noted that paint or wallpaper requires a full amount of preparatory work - puttying, sanding and priming, while gluing with synthetic tiles successfully hides small defects.

  • Painting.

    The structure of drywall endowed it with such a property as hygroscopicity. Oil paint forms a dense film that does not allow drywall to “breathe”, which disrupts the microclimate in the room, and the ceiling surface is at risk of fungus. The best option would be to cover with water-dispersion paint and water-based.

    Silicone and silicate compounds also performed well.

  • Wallpaper pasting. The technology of wallpapering on the GK is identical to working with any other type of surface. You just need to carefully consider the choice of glue, depending on the material of the wallpaper.

    Non-woven fabrics can be either plain or contain ornamental elements, while vinyl ones can also have a relief structure. If in the future it is planned to change the color scheme, then it is better to use the "matting".

  • Styrofoam tiles or cork.
  • Decorative stucco.

How to decorate drywall with expanded polystyrene tiles?

Expanded polystyrene is a lightweight, moisture-resistant synthetic material.

Such a tile can be glued butt-to-butt or have docking grooves on the side faces.

Its advantages include a fairly diverse palette of colors or the possibility of painting with water-based paint. If desired, you can purchase a tile with a decorative bas-relief on the front surface.

The advantage of using expanded polystyrene can be considered additional thermal insulation.

Having previously taken measurements from the surface of the ceiling, it is worth making a calculation according to the dimensions of the tile so that it lies symmetrically. After removing the packaging, it is advisable to leave the material for 1-2 hours to avoid subsequent deformation.

Polymer adhesive is applied dotted along the edges and center of the tile.

If its side faces contain grooves, then it is enough to wait enough time for the glue to harden on the first glued square.

The rest will be held until complete gluing due to the docking grooves.

If they are not, then you will have to use masking tape.

There should be no drafts in the room when working. Docking seams can be masked with putty. Such a ceiling should only be painted after the time required for the glue to dry.

An extravagant shape and an interesting lighting solution are just one of the facets of creating an exclusive HA ceiling.

Another and very important side is the choice of coverage that harmonizes with the style of the interior.

Plasterboard ceiling finishes

Plasterboard ceiling is one of the most popular finishing methods. Drywall as a finishing building material is easy to use and inexpensive. Finishing the finished ceiling covering can be done independently, the main thing is to decide how to finish the plasterboard ceiling.

Fine finishing of the plasterboard ceiling is the finishing stage, which this article will talk about.

Drywall installation

How to finish a plasterboard ceiling with your own hands?

The first step is to revet the old coating with drywall, for this you will need the following tools and materials:

  • Hydraulic level
  • Level
  • Chopping cord
  • screwdriver
  • Drill
  • Stationery knife
  • Spatula
  • Abrasive Grinding Mesh
  • metal profile
  • Hangers
  • self-tapping screws
  • Putty starting and finishing
  • Primer

Using the hydraulic level, the markings are measured and drawn around the perimeter of the room with a chopping cord, a metal profile frame is assembled along the line with the help of profiles.

A suspension clings to the existing ceiling, and a profile is fixed on it.

The frame structure is sheathed with sheets of drywall using self-tapping metal screws 25 mm long. GCR is attached so that there is no gap between them.

After sheathing the GKL, the seams and caps of the self-tapping screws are smeared with putty.

After the surface has dried, it is primed and puttied. When the surface dries, it is sanded and primed. GKL ceiling is ready for finishing.

Drywall sheathing is a simple job, but it requires knowledge.

Finishes

After installing the GKL, the question arises of how to cover the plasterboard ceiling in the room, so that it is beautiful and practical.

There are many options for finishing a plasterboard surface, but more often than others are used:

  • Painting
  • Wallpapering
  • Decoration with decorative plaster

Decorating methods can be combined with each other in order to create an original room design.

Decorate the coating should be after careful preparation.

No seams should be visible between the GCR, the surface should be flat.

Painting

Ceiling painting is a popular type of finish, it is used more often than others.

To start painting the plasterboard ceiling, it is prepared:

  1. Putty;
  2. Sanded with an abrasive mesh;
  3. Prime and wait to dry.

For painting plasterboard floors, water-based paint is used.

From the tools you will need rollers and brushes of various sizes and a paint tray.

Before painting the entire area of the ceiling with a brush, paint the joints of the corners and walls with an overlap.

Water-based paint is poured into a special bath, the roller is dipped and slightly squeezed on the elevated side of the container.

The ceiling surface is usually painted twice, but it may be necessary to cover it in five layers.

The amount depends on the coating under the paint.

The next layer of paint material is applied only after the previous one has dried.

Tip: To cover the surface with paint, choose a wool-coated roller, it leaves a bubble mark when painted, which, when dried, forms a uniform coating and shade.

If the ceiling is painted in several shades, it is good to use masking tape for the border between them, which is easy to remove after the paint has dried.

Tip: in the case of painting the surface is not white, color is added to the water-based emulsion.

It is better to immediately dilute the composition with a margin, because if there is not enough paint for the area to be painted, the same color cannot be made the second time.

Wallpaper finishing

The second popular way to decorate the surface of drywall sheets is wallpapering. Both ordinary paper and wallpaper for painting are suitable.

It is necessary to purchase the selected type of wallpaper and special glue. From the tools, prepare a roller for applying glue to the surface of the ceiling and a rubber roller for smoothing a sheet of wallpaper along the ceiling.

This process cannot be done alone, you need an assistant who would hold the sheet of wallpaper while you stick it.

Decorative plaster

If the painting is already tired, the wallpaper seems to you the last century, and the room needs to be updated, you can decorate the ceiling with decorative plaster trim.

Decorative plaster as a finishing plasterboard ceiling is rarely used, many do not know that it can cover not only the walls inside and outside the building.

Decorating a room with decorative plaster is a long-term job, it is not suitable for those who need to make repairs in a short time.

To independently finish the ceiling with plaster, you need to prepare the following tools:

  • Roller
  • tassel
  • Bucket for mixing mortar
  • Drill with mixer attachment
  • Spatula
  • polutorok
  • Kelmu

A mixture of plaster with a spatula is applied to the ceiling and stretched over the surface.

The roller is immediately rolled over the composition for leveling. Leave to dry for 24 hours.

After that, grout is made using a trowel, and primed.

If there is no color scheme of the desired color in the decorative putty, then painting will be the finishing step.

The process of decorating the ceiling with decorative plaster is almost no different from applying it to the walls.

Important: the plaster mixture is used for finishing only when the coating is made of moisture-resistant drywall.

There are different ways to finish the plasterboard ceiling with your own hands, which one to choose for the design of your room, everyone chooses personally.

How to beautifully finish a plasterboard ceiling?

All the beauty of the interior of a house or apartment can easily be spoiled by uneven ceilings.

One of the easiest ways to prevent this situation is to install suspended plasterboard ceilings.

They are environmentally friendly, fire-resistant, have excellent sound and heat insulation properties and an affordable price. Due to the fact that such a design has a perfectly flat surface, there are many ways to finish it.

Plasterboard ceiling installation

At the very beginning of the work on finishing the ceiling with drywall, markings are made in order to install the guides.

They will be installed in the upper perimeter of the wall, with some indentation from the main ceiling.

In this case, it is necessary to use a laser or building level (the length should be 1.5-2 m).

A metal profile (PN 28 * 27 mm) is used as guides.

The profile is fixed in a concrete wall with dowel-nails, in a wooden one - with self-tapping screws. After that, the ceiling profile PP 60 * 27 is installed (along the axes, the step is 600 mm) so that the sheet seams are in the middle of the profile. Fastening with a self-tapping screw with a press washer of the ceiling profile to the guide is done using a screwdriver.

For the convenience of the future design of the ceiling with drywall, the middle of the profiles are marked with a pencil, as well as the places for arranging transverse profiles that will form cells (step - 500-600 mm).

Installation on U-shaped hangers

To fix the ceiling profiles, you need to prepare a special U-shaped suspension (step - maximum 1 m).

On the cord attached to the extreme profiles, others are leveled to obtain an ideal surface.

  1. Hangers are attached using self-tapping screws with washers to the profile. Unnecessary parts of the suspension are bent in the other direction.
  2. In order to fix the transverse racks, you must have a bracket or "crab".

    If it is not available, you can use a piece of the guide post (size 100 mm), which is first attached to the edge of the ceiling profile, and then a transverse post is attached to it.

  3. "Crabs" are installed on the lines of marks and connect them to the transverse profiles. The cells in this case should be 600 * 600 mm. This ensures the rigidity of the frame.
  4. Parts of the frame are checked and materials of the required dimensions are prepared for finishing the ceiling with plasterboard.
  5. Plasterboard sheet is installed on the ceiling with further fixing to the guides using self-tapping screws (step - up to 250 mm).

Installation of drywall slabs is done with a slight offset.

This improves the rigidity of the structure. It is important to remember that finishing the room with drywall reduces the height of the room.

Finishing methods

After the ceiling is installed, you need to finish it in a way that is most appropriate for a particular room. At the very beginning, you need to putty all the seams.

To do this, use the starting and finishing mixture, which differ in different grain diameters.

After filling the seams with the starting mixture, they are reinforced with a sickle or paper tape.

After the solution has dried, using sandpaper on a grinder, polishing is done.

At the end of the work, the starting putty is covered with a finishing putty. The entire sheet is also completely covered, and the surface is leveled with a wide spatula.

Painting

The best option for painting drywall surfaces are water-based paints.

Of the widespread, acrylic can be distinguished, which can be purchased at any hardware store.

Matte paint is usually painted on a ceiling that has not been plastered or puttied. In this case, as a rule, several layers are applied. Glossy paint is applied to a prepared ceiling without visible defects. In any case, before painting, it is desirable to treat the surface with a primer.

When painting the ceiling, you need to make sure that there are no drafts in the room.

You also need to avoid direct sunlight. After processing the seams for two days, the humidity and temperature in the room should remain constant.

Wallpaper

This is a long-familiar method, which can also be quite successfully used to decorate a plasterboard ceiling.

To do this, you can choose paper wallpaper or non-woven for painting.

Be sure to plaster the sheets of drywall before performing the main work. In this case, the wallpaper that is boring can be removed without much difficulty. If you ignore the plaster, then when removing the wallpaper, the cardboard will also come off, and this is fraught with replacing the ceiling.

Glue also needs to be chosen exactly the one that corresponds to this type of material.

You can find out from the instructions about the correct use of it. The work process itself is quite simple - it is easy to stick wallpaper on a flat surface.

Of course, it is more convenient to work with a partner. As for tools, you need a roller to apply glue, a rubber roller to smooth the wallpaper, a container for glue and a stepladder.

Plaster

There is another interesting option for finishing the plasterboard ceiling - decorative plaster.

If you get acquainted with the intricacies of this work and do everything right, then the interior of the room will change significantly. The cost of such plaster is low, so savings on materials are possible.

This method is very good to use when there are visible defects in drywall sheets - dents or surface curvature. But if the surface is strongly curved, then decorative plaster is not able to correct such a flaw.

Moreover, a large weight will provoke additional deformation.

There are three basic rules of work:

  • decorative plaster should be used exclusively on moisture-resistant plasterboard sheets;
  • the use of a primer before using the material is mandatory;
  • The plaster must be applied in thin layers several times.

How and how to paint a plasterboard ceiling

Ceilings covered with whitewash or paint were replaced by suspended plasterboard ceilings.

The material itself is nothing special. What attracts in it is that it allows you to create a variety of designs on the ceiling space. They are lightweight, easy to install, attractive materials available and relatively cheap.

Moreover, in addition, drywall can be decorated, embodying any design fantasy.

Moreover, during the installation process, you can do it on your own, without the use of expensive equipment and the involvement of outside workers. At the same time, drywall is a safe, environmentally friendly material. The easiest way to finish the ceiling of plasterboard sheets is wallpapering. But, the option looks much more interesting when the suspended ceiling is painted with multi-colored paints.

What paints are better to paint drywall

Almost all paint and varnish materials that exist today on the construction market are suitable for painting drywall.

The only exception is oil paints. They form an airtight film on the painted surface, which does not allow drywall to “breathe”. After 5 years after operation, the oil coating may begin to peel off, the ceiling will become covered with cracks.

The best option would be water-based, water-dispersion or acrylic paints. They attract environmental friendliness, smooth coating, wear resistance. The basis of such paints is an aqueous emulsion, to which acrylates, silicone, latex and color pigment are added.

Paints are diluted with water or special water-based solutions. This distinguishes them favorably from oil paints, which are diluted with solvents and drying oil.

The paint dries quickly, even in winter, without emitting an unpleasant, fetid odor during the drying process. Often, oil paints that were used before caused poisoning. Poisonous components were released during the drying of the painted surface.

Water-based, acrylic or water-dispersion paints dry completely when aired for several hours.

Coatings have a pleasant to the touch surface, a beautiful glossy sheen.

Suspended ceiling, covered with paint, visually increases the room and the height of the ceiling, hides minor defects.

Preparing drywall for painting

He is not afraid of wet cleaning and dry abrasion.

A more saturated gloss is acquired by a plasterboard ceiling covered with enamels. The disadvantages of the coating are toxicity and high price compared to other paints.

Preliminary preparation of the ceiling for painting requires care and attention. If the drywall sheets have irregularities and cannot be corrected at the preparatory stage, then the final enamel finish will further emphasize the defects.

Plasterboard ceiling painting technology

You can apply paint to a drywall ceiling using a long-haired paint roller or spray gun. Everyone chooses what is more convenient. Foam rollers are not allowed. When drywall comes into contact with foam rubber, tiny bubbles form, which will provide the surface with an uneven “bubble” coating.

A velor roller is also not suitable, it can leave unpainted spots and stains on drywall, which is unacceptable.

The staining process starts from the corner located near the window. Paint the ceiling in stripes 0.7-1.0 m wide, moving from the window towards the opposite wall. Lay the next strip over the previous one. The width of the overlap is 7-10 cm. Continue the process until the ceiling is completely painted. Paint corners separately, applying paint with a wide brush.

The subtleties of painting the ceiling of plasterboard

In the process of painting a plasterboard ceiling, masters are advised to adhere to the following rules:

  • In order for the paint to lay down in an even layer, the roller must be well saturated with paint.

    To do this, at the very beginning, you need to dip it well into a container of paint, then roll it on an unnecessary piece of drywall several times. So the roller is completely filled with paint and allows you to qualitatively cover the surface of the ceiling.

  • In the process of painting, you need to periodically look at the ceiling in good light from different angles.

    This will avoid uneven coverage and "spotting" of the ceiling.

  • Do not stretch the painting process for a long time. Water-based, acrylic and water-dispersion compositions “seize” after 20 minutes, so the process does not suffer delay. The coating is usually applied in 2-3 layers. This will provide him with long-term operation and guarantees high quality staining.

Plasterboard sheets are a fairly popular building material. Due to the absence of thermal expansion, they can be used for construction, both indoors and outdoors. GKL is characterized by ease of processing and the possibility of giving various shapes. This made it possible to create not only smooth ceiling surfaces, but also structures with several levels. After the installation is completed, the question always arises: how to paint a plasterboard ceiling and how to do it efficiently and inexpensively.

Drywall Features

Plasterboard sheets are panels made from environmentally friendly material. They consist of building cardboard and gypsum with various additives. Thanks to these additives, panels can acquire various properties required in construction.

On a note: With the help of this unique material, you can not only hide the unevenness of the bearing plates, but also beautifully decorate rooms with different conditions, such as temperature and humidity.

One of the features of GKL is its ability to absorb a large amount of moisture. This property was originally incorporated into the material, since it is thanks to it that the panels can be given the desired shape.

But, this is exactly what you need to consider when finishing it.

The most common way to finish structures made of gypsum boards is to paint them. The success of painting a drywall ceiling largely depends on the quality of the surface preparation.

Substrate preparation for painting

The surface, consisting of plates fixed to the frame, is quite far from perfect. It has gaps at the joints and holes left by self-tapping screws. The front layer of the material, consisting of construction paper, is not intended for applying paint. Before you paint a plasterboard ceiling, it must be prepared for this process.

Preparation for painting drywall coating includes the following steps:

  1. Primer edges and joints. This action is necessary to seal the exposed areas of the sheets. In addition, the primer of the joints helps to increase adhesion to the putty. Apply the primer with a brush, carefully smearing all the cracks and holes. If this process is carried out twice, then this will only strengthen the material.
  2. Sealing joints and holes. It is possible to putty seams and holes only after the primer has completely dried. A special mixture or starting putty is used for this. All openings in the coating are subject to sealing. Excess material is removed with a spatula.
  3. Joint reinforcement. This procedure must be carried out in order to prevent the appearance of cracks. Reinforcement is carried out immediately after sealing the seams. For this, a special mesh or tape is used. The center of the tape should line up with the seam. If the reinforcement is carried out with several pieces of tape, then their connection is overlapped.
  4. Priming the entire surface. After all the holes on the surface of the GKL ceiling are sealed, it is treated with a liquid primer. As a result of impregnation, the cardboard becomes hard and rigid. Any material sticks to it perfectly.
  5. Primary putty. At this stage, a base is created to create a flat surface for painting a drywall surface. The first layer of plaster is applied with a wide spatula. The material is the starting putty. Before it hardens, it can be slightly scratched for better adhesion to the next layer.
  6. Primer layer of starting plaster. This will make its surface more durable and get rid of a layer of construction dust.
  7. Application of finishing solution. This layer will be final and will serve as the basis for the finishing material. The surface is carefully leveled and dried during the day.
  8. Grinding and polishing. Giving the surface a degree of glass smoothness is carried out using a grinding grid and sandpaper. When polishing is completed, it is necessary to get rid of debris and dust, to carry out wet cleaning in the room.
  9. Priming of the entire prepared surface.

While the primer dries, you can think about how to paint the plasterboard ceiling and what tools you will need for this.

Tools and materials

Painting a suspended plasterboard ceiling is not particularly difficult and does not require the services of professionals. It is necessary to choose a good tool and choose a high-quality, durable paint.

Painting tools

For such a simple process as painting, there are only three types of fixtures. Each of them has its pros and cons.

These are the tools:

  1. Paint brush. The most simple and affordable device. But, for processing a large area, the thing is rather inconvenient. With a brush it is convenient to paint over corners and niches. It is more of an auxiliary tool than the main tool of labor.
  2. roller. This device for painting plasterboard ceilings is used by both amateurs and professionals. If you attach a long handle to the roller and equip it with a pallet, then the work is greatly facilitated and accelerated. The most practical are rollers made of natural fur. They absorb paint well and ensure its uniform distribution over the surface. The painting video shows the sequence of this work.
  3. Spray gun or spray gun. An ideal tool for applying paint materials on all kinds of surfaces. With the help of an airbrush, the paint is applied in an even layer, firmly sticking to the putty. In this case, the paint is consumed very sparingly. But, given the impressive cost of this tool, as a rule, only professional plasterers use it. Acquiring such a product for one-time work is economically unprofitable.

It should not be forgotten that you will have to work at height. Before you paint a plasterboard ceiling, you need to take care of stable goats or a stepladder.

Paint selection

Not only its appearance, but also its service life depends on the correct choice of paint for a plasterboard ceiling.

When choosing a paint for a GKL surface, it should be foreseen that it has the following qualities:

  • moisture resistance;
  • drying speed;
  • elasticity after drying;
  • ecological cleanliness;
  • high or medium price.

You should not chase cheap material. It will not last long and will quickly fall into disrepair. Before whitewashing, it is necessary to briefly study the characteristics of the paint on sale.

The building materials market provides such a choice of paint for the ceiling:

  1. Water dispersion. It dries quickly, is absolutely safe for human health and fits perfectly on any surface. This finishing material has good elasticity and resistance to mechanical damage.
  2. Water emulsion. On sale is a large selection of colors of this paint in packages of various capacities. A dense film evenly covers the surface and ensures its breathability. It is durable, but less resistant to abrasion.
  3. Enamel. A material that provides a perfect and durable surface. Requires careful preparation of the base. The price is an order of magnitude higher than other materials.

Oil paint should be avoided. This material is short-lived and does not allow air to pass through. The decision on what paint to paint a plasterboard ceiling depends on the type of room and the financial capabilities of the owners of the room.

Painting plasterboard ceiling

Even with increased care during work, measures should be taken to protect the eyes and hair from getting paint on them. It is rather difficult to wash off and has an irritating effect on the mucous membrane of the eyes. You need to work in goggles and a headgear. Furniture and other interior elements should be covered with foil.

To achieve a high-quality result, 2-3 layers of paint are enough. Painting a two-level plasterboard ceiling begins with corners and niches. Then the first level is processed. The second level is painted last. Each subsequent layer of paint is applied in a direction perpendicular to the previous one and only after it has completely dried. This will ensure uniform coverage.

If, for certain reasons, the owner of the premises is not satisfied with the result, or if his tastes have changed over time, then this is easy to fix. Before repainting the canvas, it must be washed with soapy water, wiped and applied with new paint.
In the photo in the article you can see the options for painting plasterboard ceilings.
