How can you drive wasps away in nature. How to get rid of wasps in the country

Wasps are often confused with bees. They are indeed similar, only the wasps have a more slender physique, and are not so covered with hairs. It seems difficult to confuse, but if you don’t know what a wild wasp looks like, it’s easy to make a mistake. Residents of megacities rarely encounter these insects, do not like wasps of excessive noise and cannot tolerate the smell of exhaust from cars, it is fatal for them. Therefore, they rarely wonder how to get rid of this pest. And those people who are familiar with these insects firsthand are not particularly happy about such a meeting, because what good is it, one harm. Here bees carry honey, and wasps only sting.

The timely start of the fight against wasps in the country will help, if not completely get rid of annoying insects, then significantly reduce the harm they cause

Often outdoor recreation or a trip to the country turns into a nightmare when you are surrounded by wasps. They sit down for snacks and drinks, they scare children with their presence. Every season, avid summer residents and gardeners wage a fierce fight against these dangerous pests, but it does not always work out quickly to get rid of them. You need to know their weaknesses in order to take advantage of them in the fight against them.

A little about wasps as a species

Not everyone knows that wasps are not only a sweet tooth, but also big pests. You need to get rid of the house of these insects as soon as you notice the construction of honeycombs. They prefer sweets, so honey, compotes, juices and sweet fruits are the most suitable diet for them. But they do not like sudden movements. So do not try to brush them off with your hands, let alone run.

In this case, your efforts will not be successful, it will not help get rid of the annoying insect, but will cause aggression in it and you will face a painful bite. A wasp sting can sometimes cause great harm to a person, it is much more dangerous than a bee sting. You can get away with itching or swelling, but there have been cases where wasp venom has been fatal.

Why should they be fought?

These insects settle under the roofs of houses, having equipped this space for a nest, they live there for a long time and are not going to change their habitat. Every year the nest grows, and getting rid of it is more and more difficult and dangerous. If they settled under a roof, they need help to change their habitat, not at all because they bring anxiety and discomfort to a person’s life, this is also a reason, but not the only one.

Some gardeners advise dealing with wasp nests at night while the insects are sleeping.

The second reason to urgently get rid of the nest of this insect is that the wasps actively carry various infections and bacteria, as they fly everywhere and everywhere, and it is not clear what infection they will bring this time. Sitting on a plate of food, you do not even suspect that you have become a victim of their active life.

A wasp sting can cause:

  • pain;
  • severe swelling;
  • allergic reaction;
  • relapse due to toxicity;
  • death.

Learning to deal with them

In order to start fighting wasps and effectively get rid of them, you need to arm yourself with the necessary knowledge. Please note the following rules:

  1. You need to know that if the wasps disturbed you with their presence all last summer season, then with the advent of heat, the insects will “knock on your door” again.
  2. Thanks to wasps - scouts, who, with the advent of heat, fly out to survey the area in order to find the most comfortable corner for living and give a signal to other wasps. Having already arrived with the whole family, the wasps mold their strong honeycomb houses. Once they have settled, getting rid of them just won't work.
  3. It is much easier to deal with wasps during construction or when you are doing major repairs. Treat corners filled with boxes and furniture with protective equipment so you can protect your home from "uninvited guests".
  4. The destruction of wasps is carried out together with the nest. If you only destroy the insects, and do not touch the nest, then you will simply waste your time.
  5. Destruction of wasps is best scheduled for sunset. It is at this time that all the wasps return home after a hard day's work. In this family, close circle, you can catch them. If the procedure for the extermination of wasps is carried out in the morning, then you can find an empty nest.
  6. Having removed the empty nest, you will be pursued by its vengeful inhabitants for a long time. You understand how it could end. Removal of the wasp nest should be carried out during the hibernation period of wasps, that is, in early spring or late autumn. Only by burning it you can forget about the wasps for a long time.

Some researchers argue that the most dangerous period for the extermination of wasps is the ripening season for many sweet fruits. Cherries, berries, apricots, plums and other goodies of summer are a field for their work. They are also very aggressive on hot days. Beware: they can sting, and this can be done by one and also a wasp several times in a row. Wasps are partial to fragrant perfumes. They are attracted to them much more than natural smells.

Very often bunches of grapes suffer from wasps

If you are going to go out in a beautiful guise, the chances that you will be stung increase. So, it is better not to use bright makeup and fragrant perfumes yet. If the fight against wasps is an impossible task for you, you can contact the pest control services, they will definitely find a way out of this situation.

Now let's move on to considering options for dealing with wasps.

Remedies to help get rid of wasps

Today, there are a lot of tools that guarantee you getting rid of wasps.

Chemicals

Most people prefer chemicals. A variety of aerosols that have a pleasant aroma or are odorless. Products that can be used both indoors and outdoors. The choice of products of this kind filled the markets and shop windows. For some reason, people have ceased to take care of themselves, because such funds are not famous for their usefulness to the human body.

Each remedy contains substances that can cause allergies and other complications. And also the use of various baits is dangerous because the smell of the attractant, which allegedly attracts wasps, also attracts wasps from other areas. As a result, you will get a double headache.

Boric acid is an effective tool in the fight against wasps.

As you can see, conventional remedies are not the best way to deal with them. In this case, we recommend that you use folk remedies. They can also adversely affect a person, but in this case, you yourself can control the cooking process and keep the situation in your hands.

Folk methods of getting rid of wasps

What methods were used by people who lived before us? These devices and methods helped them no worse than chemical means. Let's get to know them in detail:

The means of combating wasps that we have listed are available to absolutely everyone, it is important to have a desire.

Destroying os folk means, one should not expect a quick solution to the problem. If you did not manage to get a positive result after the first time, do the manipulation a second and third time. Even if the chosen folk or chemical remedy did not work, in no case give up. After all, you have more than one day at your disposal in order to try each remedy, you can experiment.

If you want to get rid of a pest with folk remedies once and for all. Yes, so that the wasps do not return to you directly, pay attention to the following method. Spray the nest with a solution of potassium permanganate or hydrogen peroxide and wasps will not live there. By the same means, you need to clean the location of the remote nest well.

We kindly ask you not to involve children in such actions. It is better to ask an adult for help. We wish you good luck in this difficult task.

At the end of the summer, many residents of summer cottages, houses and apartments begin to worry about the question of how to scare away wasps that cause a lot of trouble. After all, often these insects start an attack for no apparent reason, showing aggression and attacking several times. It is quite difficult to scare away wasps, but it is possible if you understand the reasons for their appearance and take all measures to destroy them.

How do wasps get into a room?

How do insects get into the room, and how to scare away wasps? This question is asked by many gardeners and gardeners. Basically, wasps prefer to build nests in attics, roofs and balconies, where it is always warm enough and there is some kind of food. There are many cases when wasps are located in apartments where people live and work. Starting in the spring in search of a calm and quiet place for a nest, the female can fly into the room through an open door, window or window and begin to twist her corner. After that, she begins to lay eggs, eating crumbs from the table, flies and other insects. After 1 month, a brood appears, and the wasp family becomes large and strong enough, causing a lot of trouble with its presence.

Why is it necessary to scare wasps?

Many rely on the fact that eventually you can make an “alliance” with annoying insects and achieve peaceful coexistence, but the final picture is completely different:

These reasons are enough to agree that wasps are more often pests than peaceful insects.

When should you get rid of annoying "guests"?

If the residents were faced with the question of how to scare away the wasps, then the best way to deal with them is to destroy the nest. The most suitable time is considered to be spring and autumn, when the dwelling of insects is empty. The found nest must be burned in the late afternoon along with its inhabitants, otherwise, if this is done during the day, the wasps who returned home after a working day will become furious and begin to attack everyone who meets them on the way.

Preparing for an encounter with insects

Repelling wasps is a necessary measure in the fight against insects that have settled in a residential area or harm by eating a mature crop.

Before proceeding with the procedure for the destruction of wasps on your own, you need to carefully prepare. To do this, you need to wear clothes made of thick fabric and cover all open parts of the body. Gloves should be worn on hands, preferably impregnated with a smell that repels wasps. The face should be protected with a mosquito net. After making sure that there are no animals and children nearby, you can get to work. It is necessary to solve the problem of how to scare away the wasps in advance, until the swarm has acquired an awesome size.

The most common ways to scare wasps

Before you start scaring away insects, you need to decide on the choice of strategy. For example, there are common methods, such as dousing the nest with boiling water, spraying diesel fuel, gasoline and kerosene with a garden sprayer. Household chemicals (bleach, Dichlorvos, Domestos) are also popular, using which they process the nest itself and the places where wasps accumulate. Often, people purchase various sprays and deodorants, air fresheners and other aerosols that emit a smell that repels wasps. Since work is carried out in the hot season, using the above means, it must be remembered that they are all quite flammable and easily ignited, especially when it comes to kerosene and diesel fuel.

Folk methods in the fight against wasps

Those who do not like chemistry and prefer natural preparations often use various herbs and plants that repel wasps. For example, wormwood is an excellent natural repellant against wasps and many other insects. Having landed it on a plot or a balcony, residents will forget about the annoying buzz for a long time. Also, pennyroyal and basil have good deterrent properties, frightening not only wasps, but also ticks, flies and mosquitoes. Another option on how to scare away wasps is liquid smoke, which emits a specific smell.

According to many summer residents and gardeners, the most effective in the process of fighting insects and scaring them away are special dummies of a hornet's nest.

Wasps never settle next to a neighboring hive in order to avoid war between families. You can also use electronic devices that repel insects, but they are quite expensive and most of them are ineffective. In specialized stores, a consultant can tell you what smell repels wasps and suggest perfumes, after applying which you can protect yourself from bites.

Recently, most of those people who fought with wasps came to the conclusion that without the help of specialized preparations it is quite difficult to cope with insects. Folk methods of struggle are good, but they help in cases where the wasp swarm is not very large and can be dealt with without much effort. When the wasp family is well developed, one cannot do without the purchase of such funds as Raptor, Gett, Moskitol and other similar preparations. These products are effective and last for a long period of time - up to 8 months, which allows you to scare away insects once and for all. You can also learn more about what smell repels wasps in stores.

Safety rules for contact with wasps

In conclusion, it is worth noting that if wasps have settled nearby, then ice, a tourniquet, Suprastin tablets should always be at hand, even if none of the family members have allergies. After reading the article, every owner knows how to scare wasps away from home without much effort. Remember that caution and attentiveness are the main requirements for any contact with these insects.

Here, it seems, you can’t call wasps pests, but they can annoy no worse. For the time being, they are invisible, but in August they are irresistibly drawn to human habitation - I suspect that they are attracted to the appetizing smells of jam and compotes. And here already one desire remains - to get rid of this scourge, moreover, as quickly and reliably as possible.

My wasps made several small nests under the roof of the house and one huge one in the dressing room. Moreover, the "bath" nest grew literally before our eyes, until it reached a completely frightening size. But as long as its inhabitants behaved peacefully and submissively, we happily coexisted with them. According to the principle "you do not touch us - we do not touch you." And so it began...

At first, these insects almost deprived us of the traditional Shabbat bath: a couple of weeks ago they suddenly became aggressive. Then they began to overpower already in the house: it’s not pleasant when a dozen wasps are constantly circling around you. The victims also appeared: Alenka stepped on a wasp with her bare foot and was stung; Murzik also "tasted" wasp sting while trying to catch an insect. It became impossible to postpone the search for methods of struggle further ...

To begin with, I looked into the discussions of this burning issue on our website:

Traps and lures

In practice, I have experienced simple traps: containers with any sweet liquid. The conclusions are as follows:
  1. It works - wasps flock to the bait. But in this way it will hardly be possible to completely eliminate them - only to reduce the "livestock". Well, and, perhaps, to distract from other "objects".
  2. The container must have a narrow neck, preferably arranged according to the principle of a funnel. Insects climb into jars, bottles, and a bowl of jam, but it is important that it is as difficult for them to get out of there.
  3. The odorous liquid in the trap is preferable to ordinary sweet water - jam, honey, fermented liquids attract insects more.
  4. Thick viscous bait "catches" wasps better than liquid. Suitable, for example, old jam (if it is candied, it has thickened a lot - dilute it a little with water).
I also found advice from an experienced grower: add an ampoule of any gastrointestinal insecticide to this liquid (remedies for the Colorado potato beetle, for example, are suitable). He says that with such a treat they do not fly far.

Available for sale wasp traps factory-made, but they operate, in general, on the same principle as ordinary home-made ones, so if you have 5-10 minutes of free time, an unnecessary plastic bottle and "very skillful hands", then go for such purchases there will be no need.

But what I plan to look for in stores is a special poison for wasps. Having enjoyed such a bait, the insect dies after a while. Moreover, having taken a “treat” for relatives, the wasp brings death to other inhabitants of its nest.

According to summer residents, watermelon (option - melon) peels, watered without a pronounced odor (for example, Intavir), also help well. Such a bait can be left in any suitable place - after eating a poisonous treat, the wasps die.

In our catalog, which includes offers from many major online stores, you can choose from various wasp control products. .

If the slot is not available...

... then we have a problem with you. Because, without destroying the wasp dwelling, we will not get rid of them completely. And they just do not settle down anywhere: in the cracks under the floor, in metal pipes, under the wall sheathing - in any secluded corner.

If you turn your own dwelling to get to the wasp is not included in your plans, try using the “experienced advice”: those who have encountered this situation recommend that you start to lime insects with the help of chemistry (the same dichlorvos is quite suitable, and specialized tools - all the more so), and then tightly seal all the exits leading to the nest. Note: mounting foam is not good - wasps gnaw through it (according to eyewitnesses).

You can remove wasps from the shelter using a conventional vacuum cleaner, as the author of the following video does:

But this operation, as we can see, is rather unsafe, long and laborious, and the effect of it, according to the "inventor" himself, is very short.

Safety

Going into battle with wasps, it is very important to remember about self-defense. The bites of these insects pose a real threat not only to health, but in some cases to life: if there is a predisposition to allergic reactions (which you may not even guess about for the time being), even one or two “shots” that are harmless to an absolutely healthy person will be enough for severe swelling, suffocation and other "pleasures" that send the victim straight to intensive care.

If you are going to destroy an inhabited nest of wasps, be sure to take care of the appropriate equipment: clothes made of thick fabric (and preferably with a hood), gloves (thick rubber or leather), mosquito net or other face protection device.

If wasps live in the country, be sure to keep suprastin, adrenaline and prednisolone in the medicine cabinet. Even if you personally and your family members have not been observed to be allergic to stings, these precautions may not be superfluous. Ice and a tourniquet should also be on hand in case of a bite. Why this is important, and how to take advantage of all this, is in the next video. Retelling the recommendations of a professional is a thankless task, so it's better to spend a few minutes watching, it's really important

Do you have wasps in your dacha? What are you doing to get rid of them? What methods of struggle do you consider the most reliable and effective?

In more or less large cities, apartment dwellers rarely have to deal with wasps. Although if we consider the statistics of pest control visits, then even here homeowners sometimes have to think about how to get rid of wasps on a balcony or loggia, where insects arrange their nests.

If we talk about summer cottages and private houses, then problems with wasps are much more common here, even though these insects, in general, bring certain benefits, destroying small garden pests in large quantities.

Be that as it may, there are certain situations, one might even say - the rules when it is necessary to get rid of wasps. So, it is imperative to get rid of wasps in the house in those cases when they settle in the attic, balcony, under the slope of the roof, near the utility rooms of the summer cottage, that is, in all those cases when insects arrange their nest in close proximity to a person and ways his possible movement around the site.

To some, a hornet's nest, hanging, say, under the roof of a barn, may seem quite harmless. Well, just think, it hangs for itself and hangs, if you don’t touch it, then there won’t be any problems.

But you need to take into account the fact that you can never be sure in advance exactly how the wasps will react to a person who is just a few meters away from the nest. Sometimes they begin to actively defend their home, attacking in a swarm. Now imagine that a small child decided to walk along the path not far from the nest, and even without parental supervision ...

Remember: wherever there is a hornet's nest, a person is in danger of being bitten for no apparent reason. And at best it will be a single insect bite.

In rare cases, wasp dwellings can be left untouched - for example, if the area of \u200b\u200bthe site is so large that its owner does not intersect with winged neighbors in any way.

To reliably get rid of wasps, you must first find out the reason for their appearance: whether they fly into the house or on the site just in search of food, or have already made their nest here. Fortunately, this is not so difficult to do: the main sign that the wasps really made a nest on the site or in the house is their consistently large number for no apparent reason (no grapes, fallen apples or pears, raspberries).

It is important to understand that, of course, it is possible to kill several wasps actively flying near the house with an ordinary fly swatter, but this is unlikely to save the situation, since there can be hundreds of them in the nest (or nests). Therefore, in such cases, the only reliable way to get rid of wasps is to destroy all their nests in the country.

However, in order to get rid of the wasps, their nest must still be able to be found ...

Rules for finding a hornet's nest in a house or on a plot

To build their nests, wasps choose, firstly, hard-to-reach places, and secondly, quite closed from prying eyes. In nature, hollows, spaces under tree branches (in the thick of foliage), and sometimes even holes in the ground (""), as a rule, meet these requirements. In the absence of such places, insects sometimes fix their houses directly on the open branches of trees, or even simply build them in the grass.

As for the neighborhood with people, our summer cottages are just ideal places for arranging wasp nests. So, for example, in summer cottages, these insects usually choose:

  • rarely used utility or household premises, such as sheds, toilets, attics (here the nests are placed directly under the ceiling, and it is not difficult to get rid of them);
  • niches under the slate;
  • places where the cladding of the building moves away from the walls;
  • balconies, loggias;
  • heaps of unused trash;
  • dense thickets of shrubs or hedges.

Of course, it is difficult to check all objects suitable for arranging a nest, even in a small area. That is why, for a long time, gardeners have come up with a simple, but no less effective way to track wasps.

The essence of this method lies in the fact that in any open place (for example, on a veranda) a piece of fish or meat is placed, on which insects will readily flock. Further, only attention and observation are required from the owner of the site: most wasps will ply between the nest and the delicacy, and thereby help the person determine where their home is.

“My grandfather taught me to calculate the nests of wild wasps near the apiary. He himself found hornets that way. You put on thick leather construction gloves, catch one of these hornets and wrap a red ribbon around its body. Let go and see where it flies. In 10-20 minutes, he will definitely lead you to the nest. So we managed to find even nests two kilometers from the apiary in the wild forest.”

Andrey Ivanov, Kostroma

It is much easier to find a nest directly in the house or on the balcony. Here, usually immediately, without long-term observations, it is clear where the wasps fly most often: in most cases, they prefer to place their dwellings in the spaces between the walls and the sheathing (necessarily with direct access to the street), in drainpipes and behind air conditioners.

On a note

It is not always possible to get directly to the nest itself - for example, if it is located somewhere inside the wall of the house. Sometimes only the entrance to the space can be seen, somewhere in the depths of which the dwelling of insects is located. However, in order to get rid of the wasps, the detected entrance is quite enough.

Wasps in apartment buildings and on balconies: breeding rules

Wasp nests in summer cottages, in apartment buildings and private houses are destroyed by the same methods. However, there are a number of nuances that you definitely need to know about even before the elimination of wasps:

  • it is unacceptable to use fire to burn out the nest when it is located on a tree or in a wooden building (wherever the insect dwelling is located, it will blaze strongly, and the fire can easily spread to flammable materials);
  • you need to carefully prepare for the “operation” in advance and dress appropriately (this will be discussed further below), since if something goes wrong, the wasps can seriously bite their offender;
  • it is possible to start getting rid of wasps on your own only after the neighbors in the nearest premises are notified about this - it is necessary that for the duration of all procedures they close their windows and do not go outside.

The whole further process is a matter of technology. You just need to choose the most appropriate and safe method and implement it correctly, which we will talk about later.

Burning the nest of wasps

You can get rid of the wasp nest in the country by burning it - this is a very quick and effective method, which, however, is not always possible to implement.

Wasps build their homes from the chewed bark of trees. The structure of this material resembles cardboard, and therefore it takes a few seconds for it to completely burn. All it takes to get rid of a wasp hive this way is to douse it with gasoline and set it on fire.

However, despite the fact that this method at first glance seems very simple, there are serious limitations regarding its applicability. So, for example, it is strictly forbidden to use fire if the nest hangs on a wooden ceiling or is under a combustible sheathing - in these cases, the probability of a fire is too high.

The extermination of wasps in the country by burning their nests is safe only when the insects' dwelling is located in the ground or on a stone wall. Sometimes this method is also used in large warehouses and industrial enterprises, where there are no flammable objects within a radius of several meters from the nest.

Speaking of this and any other contact method of getting rid of wasps, one cannot but mention the precautions. In no case should you approach wasps without protective equipment (see below).

We destroy wasps with insecticides

A universal way to deal with wasps is the use of insecticidal preparations. With their help, you can get rid of wasps in the apartment, house and anywhere else.

So, in order to get rid of wasps with the help of insecticides, you need to "go through" several stages. First, you need to purchase a powerful drug in a specialized store (you can also use the Internet). For this purpose, tools such as:

  • Lambda Zone;
  • Cucaracha;
  • Executioner;
  • Aktar;
  • Sinuzan;
  • Karbofos;
  • Diazinon;
  • Tetrix

and some others. All these drugs are available in water-soluble form, and to prepare a working solution, it is enough to dilute them according to the instructions.

Next, you should prepare a dense plastic bag of such a size that the entire nest fits in it, and then pour at least 200 grams of a pre-prepared solution of the purchased drug into it.

Finally, at the third stage of getting rid of wasps, the insecticide bag is sharply put on the nest so that the flight of insects is blocked. If the dwelling of wasps hangs under the roof of the house, then the neck of the bag should be glued to it with adhesive tape, and if it is located on a tree, the neck is simply pulled over the nest, and then wrapped with adhesive tape or rope.

The insecticide bag can be removed only after 2-3 days - this time should be enough for all the wasps to die. Nevertheless, for fidelity and your own safety, before directly removing the package, you should knock on the nest through it: if you don’t hear a buzzing response, then the wasps are dead.

On a note

If the wasps have made their dwelling in the ground, in the hollow of a tree, behind the sheathing of a house or in a drainpipe, you should try to pour the prepared preparation into their shelter so that it gets on the nest itself. The exit from the nest must be blocked (for example, with a cloth impregnated with an insecticide solution) so that the insects cannot get out of the trap.

We drown the nest in the water

Using this simple method, you can get rid of wasps if their nest is located in the ground, or hanging under a canopy or under the roof of a house, for example, in the attic.

In the first case, so much water is quickly poured into the “hole” in which the wasp dwelling is located so that it begins to flow out (it is best to use a garden hose for this). In this case, it is not worth using a limited container of water, for example, a pot or bucket, because the hole may be very deep, and there may not be enough water to fill it. After pouring water, the exit from the nest should be immediately covered with a stone.

However, sometimes this method does not work: water is gradually absorbed into the soil, and insects break through a new exit from under the ground.

The implementation of the second option of destroying the nest, when it is under the roof of the house, is more complicated and requires special training. The essence of the method in this case is that the nest is completely immersed in a bucket filled with water, the edges of which are tightly pressed against the ceiling.

From below, the bucket should be supported by some object: a ladder of suitable height or, for example, a board. The duration of keeping insects under water is at least a day.

The difficulty here is:

  • the whole structure can be very unstable and fall apart, because of which all the work will go to waste;
  • the surface to which the insect dwelling is attached is far from always so flat that a bucket of water can be pressed tightly against it, and if there is a gap, angry wasps will find a way out of the trap.

We poison wasps with poisoned baits

The use of poisoned baits gives very good results, and, although not very quickly, it allows you to reliably get rid of wasps in the territory of a summer cottage or, for example, in the attic of a house, on a balcony - wherever their nest can be. This method is perhaps the safest for humans and is quite simple to implement.

The first step is to prepare the bait. For wasps and hornets, beer with sugar or sour jam is ideal, in which a few grams of any of the following insecticidal preparations are added: Get, Lambda Zone or Delta Zone (at worst, you can get by with ordinary boric acid, but the effectiveness in this case will be lower). After thorough mixing, the poisoned bait is poured into a saucer or any other container and placed in a conspicuous place on the site.

An important point in the implementation of this method of getting rid of wasps is that the container with the bait must be placed in places inaccessible to pets and children. The easiest way is to hang it, for example, on a tree branch: the household will remain intact, but all the wasps that will flock to the bait from all over the site will die within a few hours. If the nest is located in the attic, then it is enough to place the container with the bait nearby - and soon there will be a “carpet” of dead insects under the nest.

You can not use honey as bait: bees can also fly to it. Beer (or sour jam) will only attract wasps and hornets.

Poisoned bait should be reapplied every few days until the wasps in the area are completely gone.

Traps from wasps and hornets

A trap for wasps and hornets is, in fact, the same bait (not necessarily poisoned), placed in a special container from which insects that have flown in can no longer get out. Such a device can be bought in stores for gardeners, or you can make it yourself - the effectiveness of the trap will be high in any case.

Making a trap for wasps on your own is not at all difficult, you just need to know the technology. To create it, you need an ordinary plastic bottle, in which the cap is twisted and the upper third is cut off. The bait is poured into the bottom of the bottle, after which the upper half is turned over and inserted into the bottom with the neck down.

In order to get rid of wasps with a trap, it should be hung from a tree or the wall of a house (insecticide or boric acid can be added to the bait poured inside, although this is not necessary). The wasps that crawled into the neck of the bottle, oddly enough, due to the simplest instincts, can no longer find a way back. Therefore, every few days it will be necessary to shake out a large number of dead or still living wasps from the trap and replace the bait as necessary (if there is an insecticide in the bait, it is much easier to shake out the insects - they will all be already dead).

We call a special service

The least time-consuming way to get rid of a wasp nest on the balcony of a city apartment or in a summer cottage is to call a pest control service. In this case, the owners of the house will not have any worries: all work will be performed by professionals who have both the necessary protective clothing and special tools.

Services for the destruction of nests of wasps and hornets cost an average of 1,500 rubles for apartments and 2,500 rubles for summer cottages. As a rule, after the work is done, the exterminators guarantee that the insects will not reappear in the house or garden for at least six months - that is, until the start of the next warm season.

The same companies that provide appropriate services for the destruction of synanthropic insects, as well as rats and moles, will help get rid of wild wasps. In some cases - if there are no such companies in the locality - these works can be carried out by SES or firefighters. However, when calling representatives of the SES or the fire department, you should not count on a quick and 100% exit: assistance in the destruction of wasps is not their direct responsibility, so they provide such services only if they can agree.

“My neighbor and I had problems with these wasps. We have raspberries on both sides of the common fence - they were teeming there. Until the raspberries reached, we did not worry about anything, and when it came time to collect, it was no longer possible to approach the raspberries. A neighbor was stung once, me too, then we decided to take action. His brother works in the fire department. We called, explained the situation, the car arrived two hours later. The guys in their costumes climbed into the raspberries with jokes and jokes, just took the nest, put it in a plastic bag, tied it up and took it away. The whole thing cost 1,000 rubles and a “bubble” to my brother.”

Ivan, Gomel

Personal safety measures when getting rid of wasps

In conclusion, as promised above, we will touch upon the issue of personal protection in the fight against wasps in cases where it is decided to destroy the nest. This topic is really very important, because health is at stake, and in some cases, human life.

So, in order to get rid of wild wasps in the country or in the house and not suffer from their bites, you must follow certain safety rules:

  1. All work must be carried out in thick clothes with long sleeves, a beekeeper's mask and thick gloves.
  2. The nest should be destroyed only at night, when all members of the wasp family are inside and inactive.
  3. During the procedure, in no case should you kill single wasps that have flown out, even if they bite you - when they die, the insect releases special substances that excite relatives and can provoke an attack by the entire swarm.
  4. In case of failure and a massive flight of wasps from the nest, one should retreat without sudden movements, wait a few hours, and only then proceed to repeat the procedure.

There are cases when it is required to drive wasps from the site or from the house only for a while. For example, if they were attracted by the smell of fish while cooking, or flying around a table with fruits and sweets. In such situations, all the methods of getting rid of wasps described above, of course, do not make sense - it will be enough to turn on powerful fumigator repellers, light permethrin-based checkers or special insect spirals.

Often, to drive wasps out of the house, people simply brush them off with a newspaper or towel. However, you should not do this - with a high degree of probability, these manipulations will only anger the insects, and will not at all lead to the desired disposal of them.

Finally, we note an important point: you can quickly eliminate wasps on the site, but if the insects do not constantly bother you and do not pose a direct threat, then it is better not to touch them at all. It makes no sense to exterminate these assistants in the fight against agricultural pests without a serious reason.

Thus, if the wasps did not make a nest on the site, but only occasionally look for food here, it is worth learning to coexist peacefully with them, because in this case they will not bring much harm. If the close proximity to the wasps really is fraught with some kind of threat, then now you are sufficiently prepared to be able to quickly eliminate it.

Interesting video: making an effective wasp trap from improvised means

And here is another interesting option for making wasp traps and a good example of their work.

Wasps are not just annoying insects. They are dangerous with bites that cause painful reactions on the skin and deterioration of well-being. Therefore, owners of country houses and summer cottages will find useful information about what wasps are afraid of. Such knowledge will help to avoid unpleasant meetings.

Repelling wasps outdoors

The list of means of how to scare away wasps in nature and in the open air is quite extensive. From it, you can choose the appropriate method in a particular situation.

Smoke

By observing changes in the behavior of flying insects after lighting a fire, one can find the answer to the question of whether wasps are afraid of smoke. From his appearance, they disappear, because they cannot stand his pungent smell.

How is it applied in practice? An outdated method is to fumigate rooms when lighting a portable stove. But today it is not used due to the risk of fire and the need to ventilate the building for a long time. In addition, the smell eats into wood, furniture and fabrics, so fumigation can only be used in brick non-residential buildings.

But at a picnic or at a similar kindling of a fire, wasps will be scared away, and it will be possible to rest calmly. The effect will be enhanced by adding wood and needles of spruce or pine to firewood: when burned, they emit strong-smelling substances, the aroma of which wasps cannot tolerate.

Water

Many are interested in whether the wasps are afraid of water, because the liquid is always at hand. All flying insects do not like drops of moisture that fall on their wings, because they interfere with their flight. For this reason, in rainy weather it is almost impossible to see wasps: they hide in their hive or in other secluded corners. Therefore, if during bathing they appear near a person, you can try to splash water on them. Spraying from a spray bottle, if one is at hand, will also have a short-term effect on the enemy.

But water in the fight against wasps is mainly used to destroy beehives located close to the ground. You can pick up a bucket or other similar container, the diameter of which exceeds the size of the nest, and put it on the bottom for 5-10 minutes. The hole in the wasp house is located at the bottom, so the inhabitants, with quick actions, will not have time to get out. When the water fills the hive from the inside, its inhabitants will begin to die. After that, you can separate the nest from the surface to which it is attached, and destroy it. The place of attachment is treated with an insecticidal solution or potassium permanganate.

Before you approach a hornet's nest, you need to protect yourself: wear tight clothing so that there are no exposed skin areas, including gloves and a mosquito mask.

Another way to use water against wasps is to knock the nest into a bucket of boiling water. So the death of insects occurs much faster.

Plants

There are also flowers and herbs that repel wasps. These plants include well-known to all:

  • mint and lemon balm;
  • basil;
  • wormwood;
  • various types of geraniums.

Their smell from wasps produces an effect because they contain strongly smelling substances, primarily essential oils. For a person, they are either pleasant or neutral. But the insect, most likely, will prefer to fly around the garden with such plantings.

Plants against wasps will also bring other benefits: wonderful teas with a calming effect are obtained from mint and lemon balm, geraniums are a popular decoration for flower beds and balconies, and basil is added as a spice to various dishes.

The little-known plants that repel wasps include the common harmala. Especially its insecticidal properties are noticeable if you set fire to a bunch of grass. If you throw it into the fire, then the insects will not be afraid. True, this plant can be found mainly in the hot steppes in the east of Europe and Central Asia.

Chemical substances

What other smell repels wasps? These dangerous insects do not like liquid combustible materials: gasoline, kerosene, diesel fuel and solvent. The pronounced "aroma" of these chemicals is not liked by a person, moreover, it can cause toxic poisoning of the body. Therefore, they can only be used as a deterrent for spraying nests on the street or in non-residential premises (garages).

There is a high probability that the swarm will not want to coexist with the smell and will go in search of a better place. Most individuals can even die when poisonous vapors enter the body through the respiratory system.

To drive wasps out of the nest with gasoline, kerosene or solvent, you need to follow the following plan of action:

  1. Take a suitable container with a spray gun and fill it with a flammable liquid.
  2. Spray the hive from below so that more of the substance falls on the lower part around the hole: this will make it easier for foul-smelling vapors to enter the nest.
  3. Move to a safe distance and wait for the wasps to leave their home.
  4. If the insects do not fly out, then too little liquid was used. The procedure can be repeated.
  5. When the nest becomes free, it is removed and burned.

It is important not to forget about fire safety. Due to the risk of fire, combustible materials are strongly discouraged from treating nests in wooden buildings.

When burning the nest, you should also be careful: because of the impregnation, it will quickly flare up, so the destruction is carried out in the open. It is better to have a supply of water or sand on hand in order to put out the fire in an emergency.

Ultrasound

Immediately after receiving a positive answer to the question of whether wasps are afraid of ultrasound, various companies began to produce ultrasonic repellers. They can be used both in the house and in the garden. Ultrasonic waves are safe for humans, while wasps will not dare to approach their source.

But there is a downside: ultrasound will also drive away beneficial insects. Some scientists believe that small animals, including cats and dogs, also experience discomfort from it.

Repelling wasps in residential areas

Much fewer funds are suitable for repelling wasps in residential areas. After all, the method should not only be safe, but also not violate comfort. For example, you can use:

  • coniferous essential oils for ignition of an aroma lamp;
  • geranium planted on the windowsill;
  • ultrasonic devices;
  • small traps with sweet bait.

The most reliable way to prevent the appearance of wasps in the house is to cut off their entry routes. Therefore, windows and (if necessary) doors should be protected with mosquito nets, and cracks and crevices in the walls of the house and window frames should be carefully sealed.

Another method to scare away wasps is to use special repellents sold in the store. They are produced in the form of sprays for application to the skin and repellers with bright odors. Of all the possible measures to help repel insects, you can choose the most appropriate.
