Do-it-yourself arch in the country house. Do-it-yourself arch in the garden, photo, wooden arches, metal

With skill and a rich imagination, interesting and useful things can be made from any materials at hand, including plastic pipes.

Plastic pipes of different diameters are sold at any hardware store at very affordable prices. They are used in plumbing, sewerage, heating, irrigation systems, and after construction or repair, unnecessary trimming often clogs the site, while it can serve as an excellent material for creative crafts.

Do not rush to take construction waste to the landfill - we will tell you what can be done from a plastic pipe to turn excess residue into beautiful and functional interior items.

What is good plastic pipe?

We will not talk about the direct purpose of the product, but about the convenience of using varieties of plastic pipes precisely as a material for crafts. Plastic pipes are light weight, strong and durable enough. They are resistant to dirt, do not collect dust and are easy to clean. Products made of plastic pipes are safe to use even by small children (they do not break, do not have a heavy weight, do not emit toxins).

For creative work, PVC pipes are more often used, which are quite rigid and easily connected with special nozzles and "adapters", allowing you to get collapsible structures. Polypropylene pipes can also be used, but their connection will require a special welding machine or compression fittings, and finished products can no longer be disassembled.

Methods for connecting pipes in structures

From plastic pipes, you can make not only convenient household items, but also pieces of furniture. In order for such a home-made product to last a long time and be reliable in operation, care must be taken to properly connect the individual segments. Since it has already been said about the connection of polypropylene pipes, we will consider the connection of only PVC pipes.

PVC plastic pipes can be connected in the following ways:

  • in a bell with a rubber seal;
  • with the help of an adhesive composition;
  • bolts by drilling holes.

The first connection method is characterized by simplicity, but insufficient rigidity. Before connecting, it is recommended to clean the internal and external surfaces of the pipes at the joint from dust particles and treat the inserted part of the pipe with silicone grease. First, the pipe is inserted into the socket until it stops, after which it is carefully pulled back by 0.7 - 1 cm. The structures assembled in this way can later be dismantled, which is convenient for seasonal products.

The second method of assembling pipes is distinguished by reliable fixation and greater labor intensity. Work on connecting parts begins with the processing of the mating surfaces of the socket and pipe with sandpaper for better adhesion. Then they must be degreased with methylene chloride. The adhesive composition is applied along the entire length of the prepared outer surface of the pipe and 2/3 of the length of the inner surface of the socket. Finally, the pipe is inserted into the socket until it stops and rotated a quarter of a turn. For gluing, it is required to press the parts for 1 minute. For good fixation, all operations to connect two segments must be carried out quickly enough. The connected elements are left for several hours until the adhesive composition dries completely.

The third method is more time consuming, as it requires marking and preparing holes, but allows you to get collapsible structures with a reliable connection.

For corner joints and connecting several segments at once in one node, it is convenient to use a variety of fittings. Plastic pipe structures can be of any complexity using numerous tees and fittings. Consider useful homemade products in order of increasing complexity of execution.

Original and functional little things for decorating the interior

Our review of interesting ideas is opened by the simplest products from a plastic pipe, which even novice masters of homemade art can make. In addition, such crafts require a minimum amount of material, and in some cases even the shortest trimmings can be used.

From scraps of pipes of large and medium diameter, you can make a convenient and practical organizer for your office or workshop.

There are two options available here:

  • fastening with self-tapping screws to a wall or table, for which one end of the segment is cut off at an angle - a stationary option;
  • gluing the segments together to form a stable figure is a portable option.

The segments can be left white or gray, or you can paint it in your favorite color. Such an organizer is indispensable for schoolchildren and people involved in creativity and needlework. With him, everything will always be at hand, and on the table - the perfect order.

Additional comfort on the desktop will be provided by a drawing tablet and a laptop stand, which can be made from small-diameter polypropylene pipes.

Bookshelves are a special element of the interior. Their presence in a certain way characterizes the landlord. High-tech style corner shelf will not go unnoticed.

From numerous short cuts of different diameters, you can make a patterned frame for a mirror or photograph. It is enough to glue the cut rings according to a pre-prepared layout, which can be applied to a sheet of cardboard. It can be floral patterns or something abstract. The dimensions of the frame will depend on the amount of suitable material.

Scraps of large diameter can be used to create a comfortable shoe shelf with numerous compartments-cells. This design will not take up much space in the corridor and will ensure proper storage of shoes and a quick search for the right pair. The elements are connected using glue or self-tapping screws. To fix the shelf on the wall, you can use a plywood sheet, to which the assembled shelf is first glued.

Some crafts made from PVC pipes will really appeal to lovers of fresh flowers. A reliable flower stand is simple in execution and looks pretty.

For the manufacture of flower pots for transplanting or breeding pets, small pieces of sewer pipes are well suited. Having shown imagination, such pots can be decorated with colored paper, paint or bright stickers.

It is easy to make a stylish vase for artificial flowers and dried flowers from elongated cylinders of medium diameter. If you approach the implementation of this idea creatively, then an original gift for a significant event can come out.

Another extraordinary idea for the interior is homemade techno-style lamps. There are a lot of execution options, but they all adhere to the principle of minimalism: no unnecessary details.

With the help of unused scraps, you can also make useful things in the hallway or corridor: a hanger for clothes and bags and a holder for garbage bags.

Crafts from plastic pipes for the playground

From PVC pipes, you can make a lot of crafts for children's entertainment in the yard: a developmental rug, an arena, a swing, a sled, a football goal, a playhouse, an outdoor shower and a theater screen.

A very useful design for kids is a playpen made of PVC pipes.

Kids will love the lightweight swing that dries instantly after a warm summer rain.

In winter walks, homemade sleds will be the most reliable and fastest. The design is quite complicated, but with the help of practical videos you can figure it out.

For active games in the yard, safe football goals can be made from the remnants of plastic pipes.

Many children often dream of their castle in miniature. Making your childhood dreams come true is quite simple and not at all expensive. The frame is done very quickly. It remains to pick up a beautiful dense material for the roof and walls, and the house is ready!

The following structure will help to freshen up on a hot summer day. Such an open shower will be a joy not only for children, but also for adults.

From polypropylene pipes you can make a theatrical screen. It is enough to collect 3 frames, connect them together and close them with beautifully designed curtains. The home theater develops the creative abilities of children and creates good conditions for an exciting pastime.

We update the interior economically: furniture made of plastic pipes

Crafts from plastic pipes with their own hands can occupy a key place in the interior. Craftsmen share many extraordinary solutions that can significantly save the family budget. Let's highlight the brightest of them.

The most common and sought after piece of furniture is a chair. Using pieces of plastic pipes and connecting elements, you can make high-quality chairs of various types: children's chairs, folding chairs for hiking and fishing, armchairs and even high chairs.

Having mastered the assembly technique a little, you can proceed to more complex structures. A neat bunk crib made of polypropylene pipes is a good alternative for a country house or cottage, when buying a ready-made crib is too expensive. Moreover, when the kids grow up, the material can be used to make other useful crafts.

The glass coffee table with a PVC pipe base in the next photo can hardly be called an amateur homemade product, because it looks like a design work.

Another original idea is a shelving unit for a hallway or living room. Having independently designed a rack with the right number of shelves of the required size, you can not waste time shopping in search of something suitable.

Useful crafts for a country house and a summer residence

Unused and superfluous building materials will definitely find application in the summer cottage. Crafts from plastic pipes for summer cottages will significantly facilitate garden work, make your stay more comfortable and help you avoid high material costs. At the same time, the designs look neat and stylish.

From small lengths and a few tees, you can get a nice dryer for clothes and towels. It is easy to clean and does not corrode.

Relaxing by the pool or in the shade of the garden is impossible to imagine without a sun lounger. The photo shows a chaise lounge, completely consisting of plastic pipes, but can also be combined with dense matter.

A carport is another useful application of PVC pipes. It will protect transport not only from a rain, but also from the scorching summer sun.

For garden decor, a garden arch is often used, which can also be made of plastic pipes. A new element appears in its design - bent arcs. You can bend pipes for an arched vault by heating with a gas burner or boiling water. You can also put the pipe on a metal rod and, sticking one end into the soil, bend it in an arc. This method requires some physical effort.

A simple and light gazebo will decorate the garden and protect from the sun and light rain. For the presented option, it is enough to fix a waterproof raincoat fabric on the pipes and bend them on reinforcing bars. To make the design reliable, you need to take care of good fixation of the rods in the soil.

The range of application of plastic pipes is truly huge and limited only by your imagination and needs. You need a small woodcutter, a gate, a cart or a fishing rod stand - take the required amount of pipe and bring your idea to life.

It is easy to make a convenient feeder for chickens from sewer pipes. It is very convenient to pour grain with it without going into the corral. Chickens cannot rake grain in such feeders, which saves feed.

A small greenhouse in a summer cottage can also be made from plastic pipes. The easiest option: make a rectangular frame and cover it with a film or agrofibre.

A more serious construction - a seasonal greenhouse - will require more time and material. It is better to connect the elements with bolts so that it is possible to disassemble the structure for the winter. The optimal shape of the greenhouse is arched. To create it, the ends of the pipes are put on half-meter metal bars driven into the sides of the future greenhouse every meter. The dimensions of the greenhouse depend on the intended use. The greenhouse can be installed on the foundation or on the ground. Film, polycarbonate or agrofibre can be used as a covering material.

Plastic sewer pipes can also become a container for growing flowers, herbs and vegetables. Very often they are used to create vertical gardens.

To fence the site, you can use a low fence made of plastic pipes, which is durable and has minimal maintenance requirements (it does not need to be painted every year).

The use of plastic pipes is not limited to the ideas presented. This material is so versatile and easy to assemble (easy to cut, bend, has a variety of connecting parts) that it is simply impossible to ignore it in your home workshop.

All gardeners know that it is almost impossible to grow climbing flowers without support. For this purpose, any props are chosen: stretched ropes, fences, posts, etc. But the use of such materials will not be enough to create a spectacular spectacle. To make your garden beautiful and fascinating look, use special architectural elements.

The most popular of them is an arched building on two supports or an arch. Despite the fact that it has the highest decorative qualities, the design itself is rather primitive. Therefore, it is within the power of everyone to build it. One has only to find out what types there are, how they differ and what is necessary for work. This article is about how to make a garden arch with your own hands from various materials (metal, wood, plastic pipes).

Selecting the type of structure

Today there is a wide range of different garden arches. All of them differ in their shape and material. Such designs can be:

  • metal;
  • wooden;
  • plastic;
  • trellis.

All of them are similar in purpose. There are special arches for grapes, decorative arches for climbing plants, as well as arches for a recreation area. There are many destinations - the choice is yours.

Making a metal structure

The classic and most popular is the metal arch. Let's look at a simple model that has a height of 2130 mm and a width of 1830 mm. It is made from two bars of reinforcement, which will be bent into arcs. Metal rings will connect them. A feature of this design is that it can be performed without using a welding machine, all parts will be connected with a thin wire.

The distance between the arched sections is 31–32 cm. To keep the arch in place, it must be dug into the ground at least 40–50 cm. The connecting rings-crossbars should be 30 cm in diameter, and the distance between them should be 15 cm.

List of required materials

To perform the work, first prepare the following materials:

  • reinforcement bar, diameter (hereinafter in the text this icon will be used - Ø) 10 mm, 6 m long - 2 pcs.;
  • reinforcement bar (Ø mm), 0.94 m long - 9 pcs.;
  • strong wire, soft;
  • enamel for painting and primer;
  • fittings (Ø 10 mm), 0.25 m long, like pins for a template - 10 pcs.;
  • a rope 1 m long.

Step-by-step instruction

First you need to bend the reinforcement bars d = 10 mm so as to get the perfect arched opening. To do this, use a simple rebar pin template. Insert pins 0.25 m long into the ground so as to obtain the calculated contour of the arch.

The outline must be drawn directly on the ground. To complete a perfect circle, drive a rod into the ground and tie a rope to it. Take the free end in your hand and draw a semicircle with chalk or paint. Then drive the pins into the ground starting from the highest point of the semicircle. You now have a template that is easy to use. It remains to bend the reinforcement bars, giving them a semicircular shape. It will be difficult to do it yourself, so ask a friend or neighbor to help you. Directed efforts are needed on both sides to get an arched opening of an ideal shape.

Be especially careful when performing this step. The rebar could come off and cause injury to you or your helper.

For this arch model, metal rings will serve as a connection for the reinforcing sections. They are made of thin reinforcement Ø 6 mm. To do this, you need to cut 9 pieces of reinforcing bars 94 cm long. Using a pipe bender, you need to form rings from them.

If you do not have this tool or simply do not want to complicate the work, the design can be simplified: use straight rods instead of rings. Such an arch will look simpler, but in terms of functionality it will not be inferior to the original version.

The finished main sections must be installed in the ground. To do this, the ends of the reinforcement should be deepened inward by 40–50 cm. Measure 40 cm from the end of the reinforcement that will be deepened into the ground and wrap this place with electrical tape. Do this with all 4 ends. So, you will know when to stop.

We connect the main frames with rings. From the bottom of the arch, measure 61 cm and secure the first ring. To hold it, you can use a construction clamp. Now wrap the connections with flexible wire so that the ring is securely fixed and holds the structure. We fix the following rings according to the same method, maintaining a distance of 15–20 cm.

After finishing work, coat all metal parts with a primer. After it dries, apply a layer of oil paint. That's it, your arch is ready to use.

Other types of arches

Other arches are made according to exactly the same principle. For example, wooden arches are made from timber. This is a simple and inexpensive construction. Due to the natural material, it fits well into the design of any garden. To build such an arch, you need 2 vertical frames, 2 inclined and 1 horizontal part. All this is connected with wooden crossbars using nails. The finished structure is dug into the ground, primed and varnished.

Plastic arches are a structure made of plastic pipes. Such arches are considered the easiest to manufacture, they are easy to assemble and disassemble. If you want to make yourself a structure of this type, then you need to consider that plastic is not able to withstand low temperatures, so such structures are often made collapsible. Decorate such an arch with annual plants.

Forged arched structures and pergolas are very popular. Such arches look very elegant and will decorate your summer cottage all year round. Moreover, they are durable and resistant to different weather conditions. To make your stay in the garden more comfortable, you can make an arch with a bench. In this case, you can enjoy the beauty of your garden while sitting under the arch. As you can see, there are a lot of options, you just need to make an effort and imagination, then your garden will look like a real embodiment of your ideas.

A photo

Creating a wonderful image of your garden, making it cozy and beautiful, you can not do without small architectural forms. Among them, the garden arch, entwined with flowers and ornamental plants, stands out with special grace and attractiveness. Everyone will want to have such a magnificent decoration on their site. To do this, you can buy a ready-made arched frame in the store, but it is much more interesting to make a special, unique arch with your own hands.

An arch is a narrow openwork structure consisting of two vertical surfaces and a horizontal one lying on them, which can be flat or arched. And the arches installed one after another, forming, as it were, a corridor, are called a pergola.

In addition to its exclusively practical use - support for climbing plants, the arch in the garden is used as a diverse element of landscape design.

  • It can decorate the entrance or decorate the gate.
  • A garden arch is often used to delimit zones.
  • By placing the arch near the wall of the house and placing a bench under it, we will get not only a wonderful place to relax, but also a chic decor of the building.
  • If you have a large plot, then a flowering arched corridor will become the main decoration of the garden.
  • A small arcade (pergola) can replace the gazebo.

Pay attention to the photo, garden arches of various types make any landscape unique.

When arranging an arch for a summer residence, it is necessary to take into account some requirements.

  1. The height of the vault must be at least 2 m, so that a person of any height can pass freely.
  2. When determining the width of the structure, it must be taken into account that plants can grow over time and narrow the passage.
  3. The arch in the garden should match the style of the entire site.
  4. When placing an arched frame, do not forget to provide a suitable place for planting climbing plants.
  5. The garden arch should be decorative at any time of the year, with or without flowers.
  6. The arched structure must be strong and well fortified, withstand the weight of plants and strong winds.
  7. If you plan to build not a collapsible arch, but standing all year round, then pay attention to the characteristics of the material and its proper processing so that frost and bad weather do not spoil the structure.

The choice of material for the manufacture of arches for flowers in the country is determined by its strength, availability, compatibility with the general style of the estate. It can be wood, metal, plastic or a combination of these materials. Advantages and disadvantages are present in each of them.

Creating garden arches with your own hands, you can show maximum imagination, combine various materials in one design. And our step-by-step instructions will help you successfully bring your project to life.

wooden arch

First, consider how to make a wooden arch with your own hands. The simplest option is with a flat (straight) top crossbar. It is more difficult to make an arched top, this requires some experience and skill.

For vertical pillars, you should take strong thick bars (about 100x100 mm). In order for the wooden arch to be reliable and durable, we need four such pillars, each 3 m long. You also need to prepare 18 one and a half meter pieces of smaller timber (about 70x70 mm), as well as slats. Before starting work, all prepared wooden parts must be treated with a special antiseptic agent against fungus, rot and pests.

On three-meter poles, we leave 1 m for installation, and on the remaining part we evenly make 4 marks for the grooves. From the pillars we build two "ladders", fixing one and a half meter crossbars on the marks in the sawn grooves (using the "half-tree" method). Then, for greater reliability, we strengthen the structure crosswise with slats. We make the top from the remaining one and a half meter pieces of timber, connecting them to each other, also using the fastening of parts “half a tree”. At first, an angular arc will turn out, but by cutting off the protruding parts of the bars, we get smoother transitions.

Curly vines are able to ennoble any corner. In natural conditions, nature itself takes care of them ...

In the selected area, four holes should be dug 1 m deep, in which the pillars should be installed, leveling them. For reliability and durability, the lower part of the pillars that goes into the ground is pre-lubricated with bitumen or wrapped in waterproofing material. The structure is then concreted. The finished wooden garden arch can be painted in any color.

This is an ideal support for climbing plants, because in winter the wooden surface freezes less.

To make a do-it-yourself wooden arch please you for a long time, choose only well-dried wood.

metal arch

Not every metal arch can be made independently. For example, forged garden arches require a certain amount of skill and special equipment.

The easiest option is metal garden arches made of reinforcement. To create such a design, you will need, in addition to materials, friendly help. Prepare two round reinforcing bars with a diameter of 10 mm, each about 6 m long. And also, depending on the type of spacers, from 3 to 9 m of reinforcement with a diameter of 6 mm.

The proposed arch for flowers will have the following proportions: height about 2 m, distance between the arches - 30 cm, between the struts - 15 cm, from the bottom to the first strut - 60 cm, for deepening into the ground - 50 cm.

Directly on the ground, using a rope (90 cm long) and a peg, you can draw an arc. Then, along the entire length of the furrow, drive in metal pegs with a small interval and bend two reinforcing bars around them with the help of a friend.

To fasten the reinforcing arcs into the arch, we need spacers. It can be both rings and simple crossbars. In the first case, a thin reinforcing bar should be cut, using a hacksaw, into pieces of about 94 cm and, using a pipe bender, bend them into rings. In the second - just cut the rod into pieces a little more than 30 cm.

To fasten the workpieces together, a welding machine or a soft but strong wire is used. Such a structure should be dug into the ground to a depth of about 50 cm. For a stronger and more reliable fixing, you can first dig pieces of pipes (about 30 mm in diameter) into the ground, and then fix the arch in them. In any case, having previously set the level, the base should be concreted. The last stage is the processing of the arch with anti-corrosion material and painting.

Look at the photo of the arch made of metal rods.

Arch made of plastic pipes

Do-it-yourself arches for roses made of plastic pipes are quite simple to manufacture. We will need a soldering iron for such pipes (“ironing iron”) or special glue, as well as 12 m of thick-walled PVC pipe for hot water with a diameter of 20 mm and 12 pcs. tees.

First, cut the pipe into pieces with plastic scissors:

1.5 m - 2 pcs.

80 cm - 4 pcs.

40 cm - 8 pcs.

30 cm - 6 pcs.

Then, using tees, we assemble the "ladder" in a certain order. In the center, a piece of 1.5 m, then pieces of 80 cm on both sides, and then two pieces of 40 cm on each side. There are 30 cm jumpers between them. The frame is ready. Now we slowly bend it into a suitable arc and install it in the right place.

Since such an arch for flowers requires dismantling for the winter, it is better to install it in metal pipes of a slightly larger diameter pre-concreted in the ground.

It is very good to use such garden arches for annual climbing plants. Do-it-yourself clematis arch can also be made in this way.

To add elegance to the space surrounding the house, a garden arch will help. Visually, it creates an interesting focus, ...

Arch made of stone and other materials

The stone arch is the most expensive and difficult to manufacture. For such a design, a foundation is required, and even without the appropriate skills it is difficult to make it. Such arches to order can be built by a professional bricklayer.

Vine (rods) is used as exclusive materials for the construction of arches. Such a wicker arch will wonderfully emphasize country style. And a successful addition to oriental motifs in the garden will be an arched bamboo structure.

A simple do-it-yourself garden arch can be very beautiful, the photos clearly illustrate this.

If your result is not so successful or very simple, then plant more flowers and your flower arch will look amazing. Well, if the arched structure turned out to be openwork and elegant, then there should be few flowers, they only emphasize the beauty of the base.

Use any curly flowers for the arch in the country. These are tender annuals - sweet peas, morning glory, thunbergia, ornamental beans, hops, ivy, nasturtium, more about which can be found here

Do not be afraid, get to work, and your arch with flowers will become a source of pride and the main decoration of the garden. And our video will help overcome some difficulties.

A do-it-yourself garden arch is an excellent decoration for a summer cottage and a courtyard of a private house. In addition to purely aesthetic functions, this building has practical significance. This is expressed in the fact that the cultivation of climbing plants presents a certain difficulty. The use of various props and stretch marks helps to solve the problem only partially. Only decorative, hand-made arches will give the site a presentable look, filling it with beauty and comfort. Today, there are many possibilities and materials for making an arch for a garden. This is a fairly simple structure that does not require special skills and professional tools. You can assemble the arch in literally 1 day, with a minimum of effort. Consider various options for actions with which you can make beautiful structures for a private garden with your own hands.

An arch for flowers is a structure consisting of 2 supports and an arc connecting their tops.

Even in a small yard there is always room for several arches.

The choice in favor of one or another arch design for the garden should be made based on the relief of the site, the presence and type of paths, and the style of landscape design. In a large garden, you can install several of these structures. To select the installation site for the arch in the garden, plot diagrams are drawn up, according to which the most optimal option for placing products on the ground is selected.

A garden arch made on its own by a home craftsman can be installed in the following places:

  • paths and trails;
  • benches;
  • playgrounds;
  • entrance gates;
  • doors to the house;
  • ponds and pools.

The arch can be a single structure or be a complex of identical or different products. It all depends on the taste of the owners of the land.

Supports made of steel

The steel arch for flowers is a recognized classic in decorating land. This product is highly durable, reliable and durable. When properly designed and built, garden steel arches can last for decades.

Do-it-yourself metal arch is assembled using the following tools and materials:

  • welding machine;
  • Bulgarian;
  • shovel;
  • roulette;
  • building level;
  • hardware (reinforcement, corner, steel bar);
  • primer for metal and paint;
  • protective equipment (mask, gloves, respirator).

Work can be carried out at any time of the year, but it is better to do it in warm and dry weather so as not to experience discomfort due to heat, cold and dirt.

To assemble a metal arch should be in the following sequence:

  1. 1 Conduct marking and tracing on the ground. Dig holes for supports. Their depth should be at least 50 cm.
  2. 2 Make arcs. You can use a pipe bender or a template made by yourself. It is difficult to do this alone, so it is better to call a strong worker for help.
  3. 3 Weld the supports and arches together. Check if they are sized correctly. If necessary, correct products.
  4. 4 Connect together the components of the arch. For this, pieces of reinforcement or pre-made rings, rhombuses or other figures from a steel bar are used. Forged figures made to order look very good.
  5. 5 Clean the product from rust. Coat it with metal primer. After the primer dries, the arch must be painted with acrylic enamel, which is resistant to temperature changes and solar radiation.
  6. 6 Coat the lower part of the arch with tar and wrap with cellophane. This will prevent direct contact of the metal with wet soil and the occurrence of corrosion.
  7. 7 Install the finished structure in open pits. After alignment, the arch is finally fixed. To do this, it is quite enough to fall asleep in a pit and compact a mixture of fine gravel and sand.

If the flower arch is dismantled for the winter, then a mobile version of this design can be made. To do this, steel pipes are inserted into the ground and filled with cement mortar. This technique will allow you to transfer the arch to a new place and simplify its maintenance in a warm and dry room.

Wood assembly

Wooden arches are made of timber and boards. Natural material organically fits into any landscape of the land. In addition, working with wood is easy and simple. It lends itself perfectly to sawing, planing and drilling. Since wood is susceptible to mold, fungus and decay, raw materials that are resistant to moisture should be selected for the manufacture of outdoor structures. A good choice is larch or cedar. These types of wood can be in open areas for decades without losing their practical and aesthetic qualities.

In order to make wooden arches, the following tools and materials are needed:

  • hacksaw;
  • roulette;
  • plane;
  • a hammer;
  • sandpaper;
  • building level;
  • screwdriver;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • nails;
  • antiseptic solution;
  • varnish for wood;
  • timber 100x100 mm;
  • rail 20x50 mm.

Since the top of the arch will be braided with flowers, it can be made in the form of a broken arc. For this, several fragments of timber are used, connected by a tenon-groove system. But you can go the other way and make real arcs with no corners.

The wooden arch is made in the following sequence:

  1. 1 A semicircular template is made. Its diameter should correspond to the width of the future arch. As a template, you can use a suitable container for water or fuel.
  2. 2 Blanks for arcs are placed on the template. A load is suspended from their ends. The greater its weight, the faster the bending process will take place.
  3. 3 Plentiful wetting of wood with hot water is carried out. This leads to the fact that it becomes soft and begins to bend under the weight of the load. When the beam acquires the desired radius, wetting stops. The blanks are dried and removed from the mold.
  4. 4 2 frames are assembled, of which the finished arch will consist. Supports with arcs can be connected using spikes or self-tapping screws. The joints of the workpieces are aligned and cleaned.
  5. 5 The space between the frames is filled with cross members. Their length depends on the design and purpose of the product. As crossbars, you can use pieces of rails or workpieces machined on a lathe. For an idea, you can use the design that is used in the manufacture of balusters for wooden stairs. You can come up with the shape of the crossbars yourself, showing imagination and creativity.
  6. 6 The assembled arch is tested for strength, ground and polished. Its surface is treated with an antiseptic and varnished. If the site owner likes dark-colored products, then he can stain the wood. This will emphasize its texture and darken it significantly.
  7. 7 Pits are dug 50-60 cm deep for supports. Their bottom is rammed and covered with rubble. That part of the timber, which will be in the ground, is abundantly lubricated with bitumen and wrapped with roofing material. This technique helps protect the wood from moisture and pests.
  8. 8 Supports are lowered into dug holes. They are leveled and fixed. For this, crushed stone or concrete mortar is used. If the arch is removable, then how many pipes are embedded in the ground, into which the supports are inserted.

With the onset of autumn, it is recommended to remove the wooden structure and put it in the barn. If this is not possible, then you can wrap it with cellophane and fix it with tape.

You can also make arcs from wooden bars of small length. It is necessary to glue them in the form of a semicircle, grabbing them with nails or self-tapping screws for reliability. After the glue dries, you need to draw an arc on the resulting workpiece and cut it out with a jigsaw.

Building made of plastic pipes

You can easily and quickly assemble an original and durable arch from plastic sewer or water pipes. Polymer plastic is corrosion resistant and resistant to mildew. He does not need any protection from external factors. Based on the choice of type of pipes, the finished structure can be monolithic or collapsible. Let's consider this question in more detail.

In order to make a collapsible arch, unreinforced sewer pipes with a diameter of 50 mm are used. They are strong enough to withstand the considerable weight of plants and strong gusts of wind. For assembly, you only need a tape measure and a hacksaw to adjust the integral parts of the structure along the length. The parts are connected using tees and crosses. You can bend the pipe into an arc shape using heat. To do this, a plastic plug is inserted into the workpiece, boiling water is poured and a second one is installed. Under the influence of high temperature, the polymer becomes soft and pliable. It is given the desired shape, the product is fixed in the desired position and left in it until the liquid has completely cooled. After that, they can be used further.

To keep the arch supports firmly in the ground, you can use a 50x200 mm adapter filled with sand as a base. Pipes easily enter it, hold firmly and are simply removed. To improve the aesthetic qualities of products made of polymer pipes, paint is used. Its color is chosen based on the variety of plants that will braid the arch. Black and green colors are considered the best option, against which flowers look great.

Whatever style you choose to decorate your garden, a few beautiful arches with curly flowers will come in handy. Where it is better to place garden arches, what plants to choose for them - we will tell in the article. Garden arches are called light structures, consisting of two vertical supports with a horizontal lintel - a vault - at the top. In landscape design, they are used as decorative architectural structures, bases for pergolas, canopies, and as supports for climbing flowers and deciduous plants. The vault of the arch can be not only traditional arched, but also triangular, rectangular, trapezoidal, lancet, asymmetric.

By appointment, they distinguish:

  • decorative garden arches;
  • zoning arches;
  • entrance arches;
  • canopy arches;
  • pergola arches;
  • support arches for climbing plants.

According to the design features, garden arches are:

  • single;
  • double;
  • arcade;
  • voluminous.

Depending on the material of manufacture:

  • wooden;
  • metal;
  • plastic.

There are plenty of places that can be decorated with original garden arches and arched elements on a suburban area. Decorate a cottage gate, gate or porch with an exquisite forged or wooden arch. Twisted with flowering or deciduous climbing plants, it will always look elegant and hospitable.

Rectangular wooden pergola arch

What to prepare for work:

  • wooden beam - section 10 x 10 cm, 5 x 4 cm;
  • boards - section 7 x 4 cm;
  • slats - section 4 x 2 cm; 4 x 1.5 cm;
  • wood screws, anchor screws;
  • pieces of asbestos-cement pipe - 4 pieces, 15-20 cm in diameter, 50 cm long;
  • metal bases for supports;
  • electric jigsaw or saw;
  • screwdriver or a set of screwdrivers;
  • sanding paper;
  • cement M400;
  • small-sized crushed stone;
  • river sand;
  • waterproof paint or yacht varnish.

How to make an arch:

1. The main wooden elements of the arch are made: from a bar 10 x 10 cm - support pillars (you will need 4 pieces of 200 cm each); from a bar 5 x 4 cm - transverse beams with curly edges (2 pcs. 180 cm each); from the board - longitudinal crossbars (2 pcs. 80 cm each), perpendicular crossbars (8 pcs. 120 cm each).

2. Prepare pieces of wooden slats for the arch lattice: short - 20 pcs. 80 cm, long - 8 pcs. 150 cm, side - 4 pcs. 150 cm.

3. Try on metal supports to the bottom of the arch pillars. If necessary, the timber is adjusted in size by sawing with a jigsaw.

4. All parts are ground, treated with moisture-resistant and antifungal impregnation, and dried. Cover with two layers of yacht varnish or waterproof paint and completely dry again. If desired, the arch can be painted after installation.

5. In the ground, using a drill or an ordinary shovel, dig 4 holes - 20 cm in diameter, about 35 cm deep. They should form a rectangle 1.5 x 0.5 m. which is loosely packed.

6 Install sections of asbestos-cement pipe into prepared pits. Fill the recesses of the pipes to the top with cement mortar. The surface is leveled. Work is continued after two days, after the cement has completely solidified.

7. Anchor screws (you can also use ordinary screws with dowels) to the pipes protruding above the ground are attached to the metal supports for the arch pillars.

8. Wooden poles are fixed in the supports, also with the help of screws (with nuts). Check periodically the quality of the installation by level. If there are no special metal supports for the arch columns, you can strengthen them directly in the ground, after wrapping them with roofing material. In this case, the bars for the pillars are made 15-20 cm longer.

9. Two upper transverse beams with curly edges are attached to the posts with self-tapping screws. For strength, the arch pillars are fixed with diagonal and horizontal struts. Then eight upper longitudinal bars are installed.

10. A decorative square lattice for climbing plants is made from wooden slats on the sides of the finished arch.

Metal garden arch with round vault

What to prepare for work:

  • metal profile (25 x 25 or 30 x 30 mm);
  • steel rods (section ≈ 30 x 30 mm, length 30 cm);
  • mechanical or automatic pipe bender;
  • circular saw for metal or grinder;
  • welding machine;
  • fine gravel;
  • river sand;
  • cement M400-500;
  • fine sandpaper.

How to make a metal garden arch:

1. The metal profile is cleaned of dirt, polished with sandpaper, degreased.

2. The following are made from the processed profile: 8-12 segments 45 cm long (arch beams), 2 segments 6.3 m long (arcs of the arch).

3. On each side, on both arcs, measure 1 meter. Make marks. With the help of a pipe bender, without affecting the marked sections of the edges of the profile, two semicircular arch frames are made.

4. All side rails are welded perpendicularly to one of the metal arcs at regular intervals. Then this frame of the arch with the crossbars is turned over, after which they are joined to the second and also carefully welded. As an additional decor, you can use ready-made forged elements.

5. Upon completion of work, steel rods are securely welded to the ends of both arcs of the finished arch.

6. Measure the distance between the support rods. Four holes are made in the ground for their installation, 45 cm deep, about 10-15 cm wide. They are filled with 15 cm of sand and gravel, moistened, tamped. Install the arch, after wrapping the rods with roofing material. Fill holes in the ground with cement mortar. Check the quality of the installation of the arch by level. Fix the supports until the cement hardens with spacers.

Light country arch made of plastic pipes

What to prepare for work:

  • plastic pipe, section 20 mm;
  • construction knife or hacksaw;
  • plastic fittings;
  • soldering iron with a nozzle "iron".

How to make a plastic garden arch:

1. From plastic pipes (polypropylene are the most convenient to use and durable), arch elements are cut. For the simplest single structure, you need: 2 segments for supports of 1.6 m each and 1 segment for a horizontal lintel, 1.5 m long. For an arch with an arched vault, you will need a lintel 2.4 m long.

2. Prepared plastic parts, alternately heating on the “iron”, are tightly connected with fittings. You can additionally fix the joints of the arch with any quick-setting glue.

3. The finished arch made of plastic pipes is buried in the ground, well rammed. If desired, you can strengthen the supports with cement, but given the ease of construction, this is not necessary.
