Antara technical characteristics. Original Opel Antara

In 2005, at the Frankfurt Motor Show, the public premiere of the Opel Antara GTC concept model with a three-door body configuration took place, which later developed into a production car under the name "Antara" and officially debuted in October 2006 at the Paris showroom. In this form, the crossover was produced until 2010, when it was overtaken by a planned “revision”, which affected the appearance, interior and technical “stuffing”.

Opel Antara looks beautiful and modern - the designers endowed the SUV with a muscular and expressive look, which is emphasized by clear lines, smooth curves and harmonious proportions of the body. However, its “muzzle” lacks expressiveness and aggressiveness, especially against the background of a sports profile with a sloping roof and embossed wheel arches and a lean stern topped with stylish lights and a bumper with a powerful overlay made of unpainted plastic. The look is completed by nice 16-17-inch wheel rims and an “off-road” body kit around the perimeter.

Antara is a representative of the class of compact crossovers with corresponding body dimensions: 4575 mm long, 1850 mm wide and 1704 mm high. The front and rear axles are 2707 mm apart, and the minimum clearance "under the belly" is 200 mm. The "marching" weight of the car, depending on the modification, ranges from 1885 to 1996 kg.

The interior of the Opel Antara pleases with a stylish and pleasant design, thoughtful ergonomics and high quality workmanship. The “silvered” center console of the crossover is crowned with clear and easy-to-use audio and air conditioning units, three “guns” of deflectors and an infotainment complex screen perched on the very top (it can be either monochrome or color).
The weighty steering wheel with a three-spoke design is beautiful and functional, and the classic analog “toolkit” with a compact on-board computer display is clear and informative. Inside the car, soft plastics, expensive leather dominate, and in the “top” versions, genuine leather also prevails.

The front seats of the Antara are purely German - with an excellent configuration, powerful support on the sides, adjusted stiffness and wide ranges of adjustments. It is comfortable to be behind even three of us - the sofa has a hospitable profile, there is no central tunnel, and there is enough space in each of the directions.

The luggage compartment of the Opel Antara is small - its capacity in the "travelling" state is only 370 liters. The back of the second row of seats is transformed by a pair of unequal parts, fitting into a completely flat area and releasing 1420 liters of volume for luggage. In a niche under the raised floor, the crossover hides a compact spare wheel and the necessary set of tools.

Specifications. On the Russian market, Antara is provided with two petrol power units, two gearbox options and a non-alternative four-wheel drive.

  • The base version of the crossover is equipped with a four-cylinder naturally aspirated engine with a volume of 2.4 liters (2405 cubic centimeters) with an in-line configuration, a multipoint fuel injection system and a 16-valve timing, whose performance is 140 horsepower at 5200 rpm and 220 Nm of torque at 2400 rpm minute. It is equipped with 5-speed transmissions - "mechanics" or "automatic". Such characteristics allow Antara to pick up the first 100 km / h from a standstill after 11.9-12.9 seconds, exchanging 168-175 km / h of possible speed, and on average consume 9-10.8 liters of gasoline for each "hundred" way in combined conditions.
  • A more productive unit is an atmospheric V-shaped "six" with distributed fuel injection and a 24-valve timing with a working volume of 3.2 liters (3195 cubic centimeters), generating 227 "mares" at 6600 rpm and 297 Nm of torque limit at 3200 rpm . In combination with a 5-band automatic transmission, the engine provides the car with a starting “jerk” up to 100 km / h in 8.8 seconds, a “ceiling” of possibilities at around 203 km / h and a “passport” fuel consumption of 11.6 liters per 100 km of run in mixed driving mode.

The Opel Antara features Intelligent All Wheel Drive Technology (ITCC) with an electronically controlled electromagnetic clutch in the rear wheel drive, which activates the rear wheels in case of slippage. By default, the entire torque reserve is transmitted to the drive wheels of the front axle, however, if necessary, automatically up to 50% of the thrust goes to the rear axle.

Antara is based on the Theta front-wheel drive platform, on which a body with a supporting structure and a power unit (transversely) are based. The chassis of the German car is represented by a combination of independent suspension with McPherson struts at the front and a four-link architecture at the rear (both there and there are anti-roll bars). The steering on the crossover includes a rack and pinion mechanism and a hydraulic booster, and the braking system consists of ventilated discs in front and rear discs with a diameter of 296 mm and 303 mm, respectively. By default, it is equipped with ABS systems with EBD and BAS.

Options and prices. In the secondary market of Russia at the beginning of 2016, the “pre-reform” version of the Opel Antara is offered at a price of 450,000 to 850,000 rubles, depending on the version, power plant and technical condition.

Already in the “base”, the car has four airbags, an air conditioner, a standard audio system, heated front seats, power windows “in a circle”, power steering, fog lights and electrically adjustable and heated mirrors.

In the "stuffed" versions, you can find a "cruise", an on-board computer, xenon front lighting and leather interior trim.

4 / 5 ( 4 votes)

Opel Antara is a "classic" SUV from the German manufacturer Adam Opel AG, which is part of the General Motors concern. The car was the first in this lineup of the company.

The presentation of the crossover took place in 2005, the new production of the model was launched in 2007. The Chevrolet Captiva platform was taken as the basis. In 2011, the new Opel Antara was released. The entire range of Opel.

Exterior

From an external point of view, the improved Opel Antara is almost no different from its own "little brother". The differences are only in a slightly modified front and rear light-amplifying technology, foglights and a radiator grille. It turns out that the car has retained its attractiveness and style in appearance and is fully capable of meeting modern crossover standards.

The appearance of the Opel Antara is perhaps one of the strengths of the new SUV. Here, the design staff did their best, significantly redesigning the crossover, when compared with the pre-styling model.

The nose of the car acquired a modified false radiator grille with a single large and a pair of small chrome bars, which are located horizontally. They installed the latest optics with a non-standard shape, which only highlights the advantages of the car.

The front bumper turned out to be quite powerful, and they also did not forget about the crossover protection and standard fog lights, which are neatly made and have a round shape. On the side of the car, you can see swollen wheel arches that hide 17-inch alloy wheels underneath that look quite stylish.

You can also notice the window sills, which are located quite high, the roof rails, which have found their place on the roof, rear-view mirrors, which also look stylish and have LED turn signals. Separate words deserve air ducts, which are located behind the front wheel arches, which makes the car more youthful, sporty and dynamic.

The car looks interesting and modern. Visually, one gets the impression that the car was inflated, if compared with the previous model. The Opel Antara stern provides a successfully assembled tailgate, an updated rear bumper and rear optics that are very stylish. Therefore, if we talk about the external aspects of the restyled crossover, then he stepped forward.

Interior

In the cabin, everything is done at the highest level. The interior has become even more thoughtful and luxurious. Only high-quality materials are used in upholstery and trim, for example, it is worth mentioning the incredibly chic interior trim in Light Titanium leather. It is possible to choose a color scheme for the finishing material.

And, of course, Opel Antara has become safer and more comfortable. This is ensured by an electric parking brake activated with a button, a sufficient number of airbags, functional belts and a wheel repair kit. Despite the quite solid dimensions, the design staff managed to squeeze the maximum out of this, and as wisely as possible dispose of every centimeter.

The driver's seat provides a completely new multifunctional steering wheel, which is made in the style of sports cars. It is very comfortable to hold in your hands, and all the keys have been placed very cleverly and intuitively. The panel located in front has quite modern sensor radii and an on-board computer.

On the console, installed in the center, a multimedia system, an audio system, a climate control unit and a list of other options that are available in the car have found their place. In general, there are no questions about the seats installed in front and behind.

The level of plating is acceptable, the assembly and fitting of parts has improved, and the lateral support has become even more confident and pronounced. Ergonomics and free space provide a comfortable ride for any of the 5 people.

Multifunction steering wheel

For example, the driver's seat was made very reliable, and it has position adjustments in all available directions, a special small joystick that has found its place to the left of the seat - it is not difficult to find it. Interestingly, paying attention to the seat, you immediately understand that German specialists worked on it, because everything is thought out there in terms of ergonomics of all keys.

To press any button does not require much effort or performance of any acrobatic stunts. The free space between the front seats has increased due to the absence of a handbrake, which also made it possible to install hand luggage. It is worth recognizing that despite all the updates and changes, the interior of the Opel Antara does not differ radically from the pre-styling model, as the developers claimed.

It is clear that the update was beneficial, but it was not brought to completion. I was pleased with the appearance on the center console of the multimedia system, a brand new gearshift lever on a car with a manual transmission. The layout of the center console has changed.

Rear passengers usually experience discomfort in SUVs due to the small free space for their knees, but in the Opel Antara it is very free here! Antara has got a new navigation system that has a display and supports touch input. The car company plans to install them in all future cars. Separately, it is worth mentioning the improved sound insulation of the cabin.

As a result, the interior of the Opel Antara has quite a lot of free space at its disposal, without losing a good amount of luggage space. If you do not lower the backs of the rear row of seats, then the trunk provides 420 liters of usable space. If necessary, you can lower the backs of the rear seats and then the free space will grow to 1,420 liters of free space.

In addition, the loading area will turn out to be so flat that not all Opel competitors have this. If earlier plastic of not the best quality was used, now soft analogues have been installed. The result is on the face - it is inaudible noise, creaking, emission of unpleasant odors.

Responsible for comfort inside the car:

  • Power steering;
  • Steering wheel adjustment in one plane;
  • headlight washers;
  • Power windows;
  • Power mirrors;
  • Electric adjustment of the driver's seat;
  • Passenger seat adjustment;
  • Heated mirrors;
  • Air conditioning.

Specifications

Powertrain and fuel consumption

The restyled crossover has four options for powertrains, a pair operating on diesel fuel and a pair on gasoline. The base car has a gasoline aspirated, the volume of which is 2.4 liters. This 16-valve engine with a distributed fuel supply system is capable of delivering 167 horsepower.

The SUV reaches the first hundred in 10.3-11 seconds, and the top speed is 175-185 km/h. The average fuel consumption is 9.1-9.3 liters per 100 km in the combined cycle. The top variation of the Opel Antara car comes with a V-shaped six-cylinder power unit, the volume of which is 3.0 liters, and it is capable of delivering 249 horsepower.

With such a strong engine, the car reaches the first hundred in just 8.6 seconds, the top speed is 198 km / h. Average fuel consumption at 10.9 liters in mixed mode. The diesel engine is the only one, but it has two modifications.

The first received 163 horses, and the second already 184 horsepower. The volume of the diesel power unit is 2.2 liters, it also has a turbocharger and common rail direct injection.

The diesel engine allows you to accelerate to the first hundred in 9.9-10.1 seconds, and the top speed is 188-191 km / h. He eats about 6.6–7.8 liters in a combined cycle.

Transmission

The three-liter “engine” is synchronized only with a six-speed automatic transmission. The diesel 163-horsepower engine is supplied only on the “mechanics”, and the 184-horsepower power plant received an automatic transmission.

There is also an automatically activated all-wheel drive system, which includes a multi-plate clutch that can distribute torque up to 50/50.

Suspension

The technical part of the updated Opel Antara has a Theta bogie, McPherson struts in front and a multi-link system in the back.

Steering

Here it is represented by a rack and pinion type of control with a built-in hydraulic booster.

Brake system

As for the braking system, there are disc brakes with ventilation on the front wheels, the option of ABS, EBD and other electronic services.

Dimensions

The length of the Opel Antara is 4596 mm, the wheelbase is 2707 mm, the car is 1850 mm wide and 1761 mm high. The ground clearance of this crossover is 200 mm, which, in principle, is pretty good, because on our roads it can feel more confident.

Dimensions Opel Antara

The mass of the car varies from 1,750 to 1,936 kg, depending on which version. Overall dimensions, especially length, indicate that it meets a full-fledged crossover.

Security

It is already customary that Opel vehicles are equipped with the SAFETEC integrated security system, which is able to cover various active and passive safety devices and services. With the help of various features that are already included in the standard modification of the car (ABS, ESP, CBC, ARP, DCS), the restyled model can be proud of the high level of active safety.

And in the event of an imminent accident, a complete set of passive safety devices reduces the risk of injury for both the driver and all passengers. The body structure of the Opel Antara was made rigid, and high-strength steel in it occupies 37% of the total mass. This makes it possible to build a kind of safety cage, which is designed to protect the interior.

SAFETEC security system

In a frontal impact, the frame parts, which are installed longitudinally and transversely, together with the elements built into the wheel arches, redistribute the collision force, while removing it from the passenger compartment in four directions. It turns out that the deformation descends to the minimum values.

There is also a load-bearing cross beam, which is made very firmly. It can also “eat up” the collision force that comes through the front side parts of the metal frame. The front-mounted doors have also been reinforced with middle and upper sections, which has a positive effect on overall body strength.

The aft part of the car was also reinforced thanks to large side beams and a fuel tank, which is located in front of the rear axle. There are specialized box-shaped parts in which deformation is programmed. They are integrated into the bodywork front and rear.

In collisions at low speeds, they take the entire impact on themselves, reducing the cost of repairing the car. Moreover, the car has a galvanized coating, which is designed to deal with areas that are prone to corrosion.

Security systems:

  • The presence of frontal airbags;
  • The presence of side airbags for the driver and the front passenger sitting next to them, which protect the chest and pelvis;
  • The presence of curtain airbags installed on the front and side seats;
  • Three-point seat belts;
  • The presence of pretensioners and limiters of seat belts only for the front seats;
  • Headrests adjustable in height;
  • The presence of a signaling device about the unfastened seat belt of the driver and passenger;
  • Possibility of fixing ISOFIX child seats.

Power unit tuning

For example, some use chip tuning or, to put it another way, ask for an electronic control unit. This is not so hard to do, but many consider this method of changing the characteristics of the "engine" doubtful. To a greater extent due to the fact that this can significantly reduce its motor resource. This does not mean that such a method should be radically rejected, but it is advised to initially apply a list of additional works.

You can use additional processing or even replace the piston group. Despite the strict quality control of manufactured products, pistons still receive materials that give them excess weight. Along with this mass, the inertia of the moving parts grows. This, in turn, causes some loss of power. How can this be fixed? Remove the casting layer from the pistons and connecting rods and chamfer the edges of the skirt. It is also possible to mount lightweight elements of increased strength.

Camshafts can be replaced

There are companies that provide shafts with a profile that differs from the base one. Thanks to the installation of such elements, it will be possible to change the phases of the GR, increase power and torque.

However, it is important to understand that the power itself will not be taken - the driver must prepare himself for changes in gasoline consumption.

In the end, you can reconfigure the intake and exhaust system. Here you can not do just the installation of "forward flow", as young drivers like to do. It is important to replace the conventional air filter with a zero resistance device and polish the intake and exhaust manifolds.

Body tuning

The field of developing high-quality design solutions and the surface of body elements is one of the most difficult tasks in the automotive industry. If you take this moment without realizing it, you will only get “collective farm tuning”, as they say now. The market is replete with a considerable number of specialized studios that are able to solve issues of changing the appearance and interior of the car at a professional level.

Such companies are able to make front and rear bumpers, overhead thresholds and other external body kit that fit well into the exterior of the car. In addition, many people forget about internal tuning - installing other seats and a steering wheel, reupholstering the interior with leather, wood or alcantara trim. On top of that, there is a large selection of airbrushes for custom body painting.

Opel Antara 2015 is a powerful crossover from the concern. The developers have significantly improved the model externally, as well as improved its technical characteristics.

History of Opel Antara / Opel Antara

The Opel Antara GTC concept was presented in 2005 at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt am Main (Germany).

The presentation of the production car Opel Antara took place at the Paris Motor Show 2006. Antara is Opel's firstborn in the crossover segment. The peculiarity of this model lies in the external compactness (4570 × 1850 x 1700) and at the same time sufficient internal space. Turning diameter as much as 12.42 m.

The interior of the Opel Antara has the style and elegance of a luxury sedan, which blends perfectly with the contours of the sports seats. The instrument panel is ergonomic and designed for comfortable driver placement. The devices are “readable” well, the microclimate control knobs are comfortable, the symbolism is understandable. The steering column is adjustable in both height and reach.

There are two transverse engines to choose from, which have four valves per cylinder. Gasoline V6 has a volume of 3.2 liters, 244 hp. and aggregated with an automatic transmission with the ActiveSelect function. Also in the Opel Antara engine lineup is a 2.4-liter four-cylinder petrol engine with 141 hp. with two overhead camshafts and one balancer shaft.

Opel Antara's smart all-wheel drive system combines the advantages of a front-wheel drive and an all-wheel drive car. The transmission is controlled by a computer, taking into account the ABS and ESP signals, which makes it easier to drive a car and increases its safety. Opel Antara is equipped with an automatically connected all-wheel drive. The front wheels always receive torque, and it is supplied to the rear axle when the front end slips. The decision is made by the electronics without the participation of the driver, the actuator is an electro-hydraulic clutch. The intelligent all-wheel drive system is called ITCC (Intelligent Torque Controlled Coupling). Recently, more and more manufacturers have preferred this method of distributing torque, abandoning the Full Time scheme - a permanent all-wheel drive with a center differential.

Other standard Opel Antara features include rollover protection for tight turns and the Descent Control System (DCS). The latter system enables the Opel Antara to safely descend steep slippery slopes at a constant speed.

Antara is equipped with such a technical innovation as the Flex-Fix system, which is a bicycle rack that retracts along with a part of the rear bumper, license plate and brake lights. The company decided to give this novelty to the new Opel Antara, because the target audience of this crossover is active, fairly young people who love to ride bicycles and are faced with the problem of transporting them. The Flex-Fix system allows you to carry cargo weighing up to 40 kilograms.

In addition, the 2007 Opel Antara features the unique Flex 7 seating system that originally appeared in the Opel Zafira. Flex 7 is designed for comfort and frequent changes in cabin configuration.

Antara also has a twin brother - Saturn Vue. The whole difference lies in the fact that the model under the Opel brand is assembled in Korea, and under the Saturn brand in America.

In 2011, the company carried out a restyling of the model. Improvements have affected both the external and internal design, which has been finalized with functionality in mind. The exterior has not undergone major changes. The manufacturer limited himself to installing new bumpers and slightly modified rear and front optics. A new grille with a large logo and a wide strip of chrome was also installed. Clear body lines, embossed wheel arches, 19-inch alloy wheels, chrome handles, recessed fog lights, side air intakes, roof rails - the crossover's individual style is assembled from many interesting elements. With impressive dimensions and a 200 mm clearance, the car looks powerful and brutal. The spectacular crossover is also equipped with underrun protection at the rear and front.

The interior design has also undergone a number of changes. New instrument design. The front panel has been redesigned and now has additional storage space. The interior trim uses new materials and color combinations, as well as elegant interior lighting. High-quality leather upholstery is available as an option. By folding down the rear seats, you can increase the volume of the trunk up to 1420 liters. An optional folding front passenger seat is available. The 2011 model can be purchased in several trim levels: Enjoy, Cosmo, Cosmo Premium and Cosmo Premium Plus. Each of them pleases with an abundance of technological solutions. In any configuration, the price includes the cost of the DCS system. The system is activated by pressing a separate button. She helps the driver on the descent: muffles the engine during the descent, "brakes the engine."

The completely redesigned engine range, which includes two diesel and one petrol options, complies with the Euro 5 environmental standard and guarantees a significant reduction in fuel consumption and harmful emissions. Also for this model, two options for a new transmission have been developed - a 6-speed manual and automatic.

As a result of improvements, the 2.4 liter petrol unit has become more powerful and can now develop 167 hp, which is almost 30 horses more than its predecessor. The 3.2 liter petrol engine was replaced by a 3 liter six-cylinder V-engine, which is installed on the top version of the Opel Antara. This engine is equipped with a direct fuel injection system and produces a power equal to 264 horsepower. This engine only works with a six-speed automatic transmission.

For the Russian market, two variants of a 2.2-liter turbodiesel with different power characteristics will also be offered - 163 and 184 hp. sec., which is 36 and 34 horsepower more powerful than earlier versions of this engine. Both diesel and petrol versions of the Antara 2011 are available with front- or all-wheel drive and manual or automatic transmissions.

The electronically controlled all-wheel drive system combines all the advantages of front-wheel drive, such as low fuel consumption, with the traction advantages of all-wheel drive. Under normal conditions, the engine supplies power to the front wheels, but the control electronics constantly monitor actual driving conditions. If insufficient traction threatens to shift the front axle, the system smoothly redistributes power. Depending on the situation and external conditions, the power distribution range can be from 100% power to the front axle to 50% to the front and rear axles, as well as all possible options in between.

The car is also equipped with safety and comfort systems. These included an electromechanical parking brake, a hill-start assist system, and a system that helps determine when the best upshift is.

An extensive range of SAFETEC active and passive safety systems is responsible for protecting the driver and passengers. Standard set of side and front airbags It is possible to deactivate the front and side airbags on the front passenger seat to attach a child car seat.

The standard ABS system is enhanced with CBC functions for improved cornering braking safety and HBA braking force optimizer. The ESP stability control system works with TC, the slip warning system.
